Q: How is the IES Prelims cutoff calculated?
The Union Public Service Commission conduct the IES prelims exam in offline mode. The Commission prepares the IES answer key and compare the answers of the candidates with it. With comparing, the Commission calculate the marks of the candidates by awarding 2 marks for each correct question and deducting 0.6 marks for each incorrect answer.
The Commission arrange the candidates in order of their merit in their category. The candidates from other category can be counted in unreserve category if they score equal or better marks than the Unreserved Category candidate. The Commission mention that "The number of candidates to be admitted to the Main/Stage-II Examination will be about six to seven times, the total approximate number of vacancies to be filled in the year through this examination".

How to Download UPSC 2024 Admit Card?
The candidates can download the UPSC admit card 2024 in the following manner:
- Visit the official website of UPSC (http://www.upsc.gov.in/).
- Click on the Admit Card link available on the home page of the website.
- Read the instructions given on the page and click on the Yes button.
- Select any of the given two options – By Registration ID or By Roll Number.

What is UPSC?
UPSC is the apex direct recruitment conducting body in India. The primary duty of the UPSC is to conduct the recruitment exam for the Union Government and be consulted by the President of India whenever asked in specific matters. The UPSC examines Civil Services and Civil posts. At the request of the State Governor, it can also conduct the recruitment exams for the states also but with the prior approval of the President of India. UPSC is the topmost direct recruitment body in the nation. It conducts various examinations to recruit candidates for the Gazetted positions in various ministries.
It is the Central body that recruits candidates directly to All-India Services. This is unique to UPSC only. The Commission conducts exams for the generalist and specialist services. These include the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Forest Service, Indian Police Service and Indian Foreign Service. UPSC conduct the examination and recommend the candidates for the appointment. The job of UPSC ends with the recommendation list.
It is a constitutional body and derives its powers from Article 315 of the Constitution of India. The UPSC has its roots in the colonial Federal Public Service Commission constituted under the Government of India Act 1935. The Federal Public Service Commission was the successor of the first Public Service Commission established on October 1, 1926, under the chairmanship of Ross Barker.
