AFSB interview is conducted for candidates who qualify the online test of AFCAT. AFSB interview is conducted to test the mental and physical strength of the candidates. AFSB interview involves Group tasks and Psychological tests. The interview process assesses psychological evaluation of personality. AFSB interview is conducted at Dehradun, Mysore, Gandhinagar, Varanasi and Guwahati. AFSB interview is bit tough to crack. Therefore, candidates need to prepare well for the interview round. Candidates need to focus on improving their reasoning skills, leadership qualities, physical strengths. The performance in the AFSB interview is counted for the final merit list.  In this article, we have provided how to prepare for AFSB interview.

AFSB Interview: Different Stages

At the Air Force Selection Board (AFSB), candidates have to undergo following tests in order to ascertain your suitability and gauge their potential as an Officer in the Indian Air Force.

Stage 1 Testing

  • Officer Intelligence rating Test
  • Picture perception and Discussion Test

Stage 1 is a screening test. Those who qualify Stage 1 are eligible to undergo Stage 2 testing. Stage 1 disqualified candidates are routed back after announcement of results.

Stage 2 Testing

All Stage 2 qualified candidates of AFCAT undergo following tests as part of Stage 2 testing during next the four to five days. Fifth day is for CPSS testing (Flying branch).

  • Psychological Tests are written tests that are conducted by a Psychologist
  • Group Tests are interactive indoor and outdoor activities that are a combination of mental and physical work
  • Interview involves a personal conversation with an Interviewing Officer
  • Candidates who have applied for flying branch and have been recommended, will also have to undergo Computerised Pilot Selection System (CPSS) test

Stage 3 Medical Test

If candidates are recommended by the Selection Board, they are sent for the medical examination either at Air Force Central Medical Establishment (AFCME), New Delhi or Institute of Aviation Medicine, Bengaluru.

During AFSB interview, basic questions like educational background and family are asked. Some of the AFSB interview preparation tips are given below:

  • Candidates should read newspaper daily. It helps to improve communication skills and current affairs
  • Candidates should learn some basic things about Indian Air Force such as ranks, missiles, commands and aircraft
  • Since Officer Intelligent Rank (OIR) test comprise Non-Verbal/Verbal Reasoning skill test, they should solve the maximum number of questions from figure embedded, series completion and odd figure out
  • Candidates should start practicing writing stories as it is required for Picture Perception Test
  • Candidates should work upon building the confidence
  • Exercise daily to stay fit and build stamina inorder to perform in GTO tests
  • Practice OIR Test and PPDT at least four to five as it is the first step towards selection
