Established in 1929, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is an independent body under the purview of the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. Formerly known as the Imperial Council of Agricultural Research, ICAR is one of the largest agricultural systems in the world. List of ICAR Courses and Seats
The ICAR does not directly provide undergraduate courses with the exception of deemed universities. The undergraduate courses are offered by various State Agricultural Universities and private colleges or universities that offer Agriculture courses. The ICAR-AU System of India has 70 Agricultural Universities comprising 63 State Agricultural, Veterinary, Horticultural and Fisheries Universities (SAUs), four ICAR-DUs, viz. IARI, IVRI, NDRI and CIFE, three Central Agricultural Universities (CAU, Imphal, Dr. RP CAU, PUSA and RLB CAU, Jhansi ), 4 Central Universities (CUs) having Faculty of Agriculture ( BHU, AMU, Viswa Bharati Viswa Bharti University and Nagaland University).
Q: Can I join GADVASU directly?
No. there are certain criteria to join GADVASU, these include :-
- B.Tech programme :- 10+2 qualification with 50% of minimum marks with any three main subjects of the may include mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and agriculture. ICAR AIEEA scores are also acceptable for admission.
- M.Tech programme :- Admission is purely based on merit
- P.HD programme ;- Candidates are selected based on their aggregate score of their Masters degree and then a university level interview is conducted. Candidates should have teaching experience of minimum 5 years
Q: Can I get into GADVASU with 70% in class 12th?
To get into GADVASU, you need to have at least 50% marks in aggregate in your 10+2 exams. The required subjects are Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English. For reserved students, the aggregate is 40%.
The cutoffs for 2023-2024 are:
General Category: 715–117
OBC/SC/NT Category: 116–93
OBC/SC/NT - PH Category: 104–93

Q: Which entrance exam scores are accepted by SKUAST for admission?
Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) accepts various entrance exam scores for admission to its undergraduate and postgraduate programs. For example, the university conducts the SKUAST-J CET (Common Entrance Test) for admission to certain programs. Three types of entrance exams are conducted by ICAR, including All India Entrance Examinations for Admission to undergraduate (AIEEA UG), All India Entrance Examinations for Admission to postgraduate (AIEEA PG) and All India Council Examination (AICE) for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) as well as Senior Research Fellowship (SRF). While the JRF exam is to qualify for PGs in the ICAR institutes, the AICE SRF PGS is for PhD doctoral programmes.

ICAR Examination Pattern
The minimum qualification for UG courses (AIEEA UG) is passing class 12 and for PG courses aspirants should possess a graduation degree in the required field. This exam tests an aspirant's ability in subjects such as biological sciences, zoology, mathematics, agriculture, chemistry and physics.

The exam will be conducted in two streams (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) or (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) with 50 questions in each subject (125 questions) totaling 625 marks. The following table brings the ICAR AIEEA UG 2023 exam pattern.
Q: Which entrance exam scores are accepted by GADVASU for admission?
GADVASU is one of the most prestigious universities in India and offers excellent opportunities for UG and PG students. A candidate can check the GADVASU cutoff for 2023 on the GADVASU official website. Moreover, the 2023-24 cutoffs for General, OBC/SC/ST categories are 715-117 and 116-93 respectively. Also, the NEET cutoffs for general and reserved categories are 720-137 and 136-107 respectively.
Only NEET (UG) exam scores are accepted by GADVASU for admission. A candidate must secure equal to or more than the NEET cutoff.
Q: How many students can do B.Sc at GBPUAT?
As per the admissions, GBPUAT has a limited number of seats for B.Sc. The exact number of seats for BSC in GBPUAT is not mentioned. However, according to the reports, the university accepted 2809 students for the undergraduate program including BSC. For some fields, B.Sc. in Agriculture offers 156 seats, and a Bachelor of Fishery Sciences (B.F.Sc.) offers 28 seats to get enrolled in the program.

GBPUAT offers M.Sc courses which accept the admission through CUET conducted by NTA and Entrance Exam conducted by University.

The basic requirement for all the courses is a Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline. Admission to all the courses is done on the basis of merit secured in the entrance exam conducted by the university.

The ICAR AICE JRF./SRF exam is a bit on the tougher side (as this exam is mostly for graduates and postgraduates) which is conducted for 800 marks (200 questions), 20 of which are from general knowledge and reasoning ability. The syllabus for both exams, NEET and ICAR is the same because both classes 11 and 12 syllabus is included for these entrance exam preparation . There is only one difference and that is the exam pattern. However, with practice one should be able to crack both exams.
