CUET UG Physics Syllabus

The National Testing Agency released the CUET UG Physics Syllabus 2026 at cuet.nta.nic.in. Candidates can visit the official website and download the syllabus PDF. With physics as a test subject, students can get admission to courses such as B.Sc., B.Tech., etc. Students preparing for CUET 2026 must download the CUET Syllabus 2026 and study the topics given. With the Common University Entrance Test, students can pursue an undergraduate course of their choice at the participating CUET college or university. The subject-wise CUET exam date has not yet been announced. But, NTA will conduct Common University Entrance Test between May 11 and May 31, 2026.

The CUET 2026 registration is now over. Students planning to apply must check CUET 2026 information bulletin for exam related important details and rules. CUET Physics Syllabus 2026

According to the CUET exam pattern, the Physics Question Paper includes 50 questions. Candidates have to solve all questions in 60 minutes. There are 9 units in physics syllabus and students must prepare all topics to score well in exam. Unit I: Electrostatics

  • Electric charges, conservation of charge. Coulomb’s law – force between two point charges, forces between multiple charges; principle of superposition, and continuous charge distribution, electric dipole
  • Electric potential, potential difference, electric potential due to a point charge, a dipole, and system of charges; equipotential surfaces, electrical potential energy of a system of two point charges, and electric dipoles in an electrostatic field.
  • Electric field, electric field lines, electric field due to a point charge, electric field due to a dipole, torque on a dipole in an uniform electric field
  • Electric flux, statement of Gauss’s theorem and its applications to find field due to an infinitely long straight wire, uniformly charged infinite plane sheet, and uniformly charged thin spherical shell (field inside and outside).
  • Conductors and insulators, free charges, and bound charges inside a conductor. Dielectrics and electric polarization, capacitors and capacitance, the combination of capacitors in series and in parallel, the capacitance of a parallel plate capacitor with and without dielectric medium between the plates, energy stored in a capacitor.

Unit II: Current Electricity

  • Electric current, the flow of electric charges in a metallic conductor, drift velocity, mobility, and their relation with electric current; Ohm’s law, V-I characteristics (linear and non-linear), electrical energy and power, electrical resistivity and conductivity, temperature dependence of resistance, Internal resistance of a cell, potential difference and emf of a cell, combination of cells in series and in parallel.
  • Kirchhoff law and Wheatstone bridge.

Unit III: Magnetic Effects of Current and Magnetism

  • Concept of magnetic field, Oersted’s experiment. Biot-Savart law and its application to current carrying circular loop.
  • Ampere’s law and its applications to infinitely long straight wire. The solenoid, force on a moving charge in uniform magnetic and electric fields.
  • Force on a current-carrying conductor in a uniform magnetic field. Force between two parallel current carrying conductors – definition of ampere, current look as a magnetic dipole and its mgnetic dipole moment, Torque experienced by a current loop in uniform a magnetic field.
  • Moving coil galvanometer – its current sensitivity and conversion to ammeter and voltmeter.
  • Bar magnet, bar magnet as an equivalent solenoid, magnetic field lines, magnetic field intensity due to a magnetic dipole (bar magnet) along its axis and perpendicular to its axis, torque on a magnetic dipole (bar magnet) in a uniform magnetic field.
  • Magnetic properties of materials- Para-, dia- and ferro – magnetic substances with examples, Magnetization of materials, effect of temperature on magnetic properties.

Unit IV: Electromagnetic Induction and Alternating Currents

  • Electromagnetic induction; Faraday’s law, induced emf and current; Lenz’s Law, Self and mutual inductance.
  • Alternating currents, peak and rms value of alternating current/voltage; reactance and impedance; LCR series circuit, phasors, resonance; power in AC circuits, power factor, wattless current.
  • AC generator and transformer

Unit V: Electromagnetic Waves

  • Concept of displacement current.
  • Electromagnetic waves, their characteristics and their transverse nature.
  • Electromagnetic spectrum (radio waves, microwaves, infrared, visible, ultraviolet, x-rays, gamma rays) including elementary facts about their uses.

Unit VI: Optics

  • Reflection of light, spherical mirrors, mirror formula, refraction of light, total internal reflection and optical fibres, refraction at spherical surfaces, lenses, thin lens formula, lensmaker’s formula, magnification, power of a lens, combination of thin lenses in contact, refraction and dispersion of light through a prism.
  • Optical instruments: Microscopes and astronomical telescopes (reflecting and refracting) and their magnifying powers.
  • Wave front and Hyugen's principle, reflection and refraction of plane waves at a plane surface using wave fronts.
  • Proof of laws of reflection and refraction using Huygens’ principle.
  • Coherent sources and interference of light, young’s double slit experiment and expression for fringe width.
  • Diffraction due to a single slit, width of central maxima

Unit VII: Dual Nature of Matter and Radiation

  • Matter waves – wave nature of particles, de Broglie relation. 
  • Dual nature of radiation, Photoelectric effect, Hertz and Lenard’s observations; Einstein’s photoelectric equation – particle nature of light. Experimental study of photoelectric effect.

Unit VIII: Atoms and Nuclei

  • Alpha - particle scattering experiment; Rutherford’s model of atom; Bohr model of hydrogen atom, Expression for radius of an orbit, velocity and energy of electron in an orbit, hydrogen line spectra (qualitative treatment only).
  • Composition and size of nucleus, atomic number, atomic mass number, isotopes, isobars and isotones, nuclear force, Mass-energy relation, mass defect; binding energy per nucleon and its variation with mass number; nuclear fission, nuclear fusion.

Unit IX: Electronic Devices

  • Energy bands in conductors, semiconductors and insulators (qualitative ideas only).
  • Intrinsic and extrinsic semiconductors, p-type and n-type, p-n junction. Semiconductor diode, its I-V characteristics in forward and reverse bias.
  • Application of junction diode - diode as a rectifier.

Since the CUET UG 2026 syllabus is in line with the Class 12 Board exam syllabus, it can be safely assumed that the NCERT books are enough to clear CUET UG 2025 exam. Candidates must note that, CUET exam tests students' understanding of the concepts and ability to apply them in various situations. Therefore, to prepare well and get a good score, it is advised that students refer to other study materials and books designed for national level competitive entrance exams. The CUET UG syllabus is in tune with the Class 12 Board exam syllabus. The chapters and topics are similar to Class 12 syllabus. Unlike other UG entrance exams, CUET UG syllabus does not include Class 11 syllabus.

Yes, Manav Rachna University does accept CUET scores. While the university primarily considers the MRNAT score to shortlist students, it also considers other exams. CUET along with JEE, CLAT, UCEED, etc., are all accepted for admissions.

Presidency University admissions are mainly granted on the basis of PUMDET or PUBDET scores only. The university may consider CUET scores in selective cases. Students must check and confirm the same with the university before applying.

Yes, students can get admission in City Academy Law College without CUET. The college accepts both CUET and Lucknow University Exam scores to shortlist students. In case, a valid CUET score is not available, students have the option of submitting Lucknow University exam scores instead.

Most of the courses in City Group of College is offered on the basis of CUET scores. However, it is NIT compulsory. The college also accepts Lucknow University entrance exam, AKTU exam etc. socres to admit students into different UG and PG programmes.

No, students can not get into Hindu College, University of Delhi Without giving CUET exam. CUET score is necessary to get admisisons in Hindu College. After the results of CUET, the cut off is released. The seats are allocated through Common Seat Allocation System  (CSAS) of Delhi University.
