I can now express my thoughts more clearly in front of any individual, says Devyani Solanki
By: Devyani Solanki
I have not given any entrance exam for admission in Deshbandhu College, DU as it was not needed. I took admission in this college based on merit. My 12th class marks were enough to secure admission/seat into this college.
From 9th class onwards my interest in science started getting deep and I decided to pursue it further. After 10th class, I was clear to choose non-medical as my stream but I haven’t decided what I will do after it. During that time a program of Albert Einstein was airing on television and I got inspired by the programme. I decided to go to the field of research and decided that I will do a PhD in Physics. I wish to join NASA as a space research scientist.
My parents are also very supportive. They gave me full freedom to choose my stream in 11th. I have cleared 12th class with 90.2 percentage. My first choice was BSc Physics Honors and BSc Physical Science as my second choice. My 12th percentage wasn’t sufficient to get Physics Honours. So I went ahead with my second choice. Although I chose a different path I was still determined to accomplish my goals.
BSc Physical Science course includes both Mathematics and Physics. After that, I wanted to pursue MSc and then PhD. I am doing BSc Physical Science with Chemistry from Deshbandhu College, University of Delhi. I have not given any entrance exam for admission as it was not needed. I took admission in this college based on my 12th board score in PCM. My percentage in best three subjects (PCM) was 87.4 which was enough to secure admission/seat into this college.
You do not need any coaching to get into this college just try to secure good marks in class 12th. Try to get 90 percent or above in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics to get admission in the college. Admission is completely based on merit. The University of Delhi will issue cut-offs and you just need to have a percentage greater or equal to cut off percentage to get admission.
I wasn’t trying to get admission in any other college. I chose this college as it is near my home. I can do up-down regularly. It takes hardly 40 minutes for me to go to my college by metro and it saved a lot of my time. Beyond time and money factor I have heard a lot of praise of this college. Some of my school seniors were in this college so I decided to take admission in this college.
I spend a good time with my teachers and friends in college. In my free time, I go to the library to study and also have fun with my friends. We do lunch together and sometimes try to explore the areas outside our college. I also help my friends in their studies by teaching them in the college garden.
I love to attend Physics and Mathematics lectures because teachers teach us so good that I don’t feel like bunking these lectures. The Physics professors provide us with extra knowledge apart from the bookish knowledge and give us an idea of the latest happenings around the world. They are very cooperative. Moreover, attendance matters a lot in our college so I make sure not to miss any lecture.
My college organizes lots of different activities and has many societies like Drama Society, Hindi Debating Society, English Debating Society, Arts Society, NCC, NSS and many more.
I usually keep my eye on debate competitions. I have participated in Hindi debate competition once. Till now I have not joined any society because in first-year I was not clear about which society to join. But now I have decided to join the English Debating Society as soon as the college reopens. It will help me boost my confidence through public speaking.
I am currently a class section topper but I wish to be a University topper so that I can make my college more proud. After coming to college a lot of things have changed. Now, I am a better version of myself. I can express my thoughts more clearly in front of any individual. I have become more interactive and confident. I have found that the college has changed my overall personality and is making it better each day.
