Assam University: A central university with excellent opportunities.
Placements: There are 63 students in my class. The average package is around INR 40,000, mostly in the medical and agricultural fields. Out of the batch, 5 to 10 students successfully crack CSIR NET. Field trips are organized, which are useful for exploring various fields and gaining hands-on experience.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi is available, but labs are average. Classrooms are good and equipped with AC. There is a central library and departmental libraries. The hostel quality is good, with free Wi-Fi. Food in the mess is average. Medical facilities are provided, and sports activities are frequently organized. The campus has two grounds for sports and games.
Faculty: The faculty members are helpful, with some being IITians and researchers. Two professors are recognized among the world’s top 2% of scientists. The curriculum is highly relevant to CSIR NET, making it easier for students to crack the exam. The coursework is not too difficult, with a pass percentage of 95%. I secured 71% in the first two semesters.
Other: I chose this course because I love its curriculum strategy, which aligns well with the CSIR NET syllabus. To improve, adding more topics related to personal skills would be beneficial.

I am dissatisfied because of zero placement in 2019.
Placements: Almost 50% of students were placed in our course. The highest salary offered was 1.5 Lacs per month, and the lowest salary offered was 20,000 per month. Teach for India and KV are top recruiting companies visited the campus. Teaching role is offered in our course. The highest salary package offered in our course was 1.8 LPA to 2 LPA. 1% of the students got an internship from our course
Infrastructure: Infrastructure facilities like Classrooms, Blackboard, Projector, Labs, Wi-Fi, are available for our course. In our hostel facilities like the quality of food, medical facilities, sports and games are good enough.
Faculty: They were helpful, qualified and knowledgeable. The teaching quality was good. The course curriculum is relevant. It makes the students industry-ready. It makes the students good enough for research purpose, teaching ability and overall enlighten us with good knowledge.
Other: This course is very good and full of scope, that's I have chosen this course. The best thing about the course is that it enlightens us with all the new discoveries and inventions. The latest updates are missing, which is one of the main things I wish would be better to include in our course. Events, fest and extracurricular are conducted. Scholarships are also available.

Assam University through my lens.
Placements: Nearly 70% of students got placed in this course In Assam University, the department of Life Science and Bioinformatics does not provide a lot of packages to students. There are less internship opportunities, but there is a chance of getting highly preferred jobs in the public as well as private sector.
Infrastructure: There are internet connection and labs in the department of Assam University. High-quality instruments are also available for doing research and dissertation work. Classrooms are very neat and clean. Infrastructure is also of good level. Central library provides a vast collection of Indian as well as foreign books for students to study. The food quality of canteen and hostel mess is also good.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful and they help students in solving problems in a very easy manner. There are almost all NET/SLET/ GATE qualified teachers in the department. Students choose this course as it is a relevant one. Semester exams are a bit difficult and lengthy for the students. The pass percentage is nearly 95%.
Other: I chose this course as it is a very limited one. It is available only in a few universities in India. The best thing about this course is that it provides a good diversity of knowledge to students in the scientific aspect. I wish the pattern of the syllabus would be better in the near future . There are a lot of events that take place at Assam University, Silchar, such as Scientia, Auskriti, Gamosa, Sanskriti, etc. Students also enjoy them a lot.

Review of Assam University, Silchar.
Placements: There is no big placement hunt for Life Science Department, but most of our seniors were doing a job in well-reputed companies because life science department gives students the ability to compete with anyone. It is one of the best department in Assam University.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the department is good enough, and it has almost all the facilities. Though there are some things which students might find not good like electricity issues, water issues but the rest is good. The building is created in a well-organised manner. It has 3 floors, and all the classrooms and labs are well-maintained.
Faculty: All our teachers are very helpful and interactive. They don't restrict their teaching up to syllabus. They go out of syllabus and teach lots of things for exams like NET. The best part about faculty members is they mostly don't follow books, and they only consult research papers. Syllabus of the life science department is an updated one, and it helps students in any modern and competitive exam.

Foundation and strong core building.
Placements: The placement cell at my college did a good job. About 65% of the students got a job through the placement drive. The highest package was around 10 Lacs per annum, and the average package was around 6 Lacs. The college also provided internships to about 40% of the batch. The roles offered included research associate, bioinformatician, and others.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the hostel and the college is both decent and provides a comfortable learning and living space. The hostel provides average food but is hygienic. Medical and sports facilities are available on campus, including a gym. The library is quite big.
Faculty: The teaching style is quite subjective, but the faculty are very knowledgeable and experienced. Most of them are quite approachable and willing to help students. The curriculum is good and seems to be designed to help students be industry-ready and land a job. Unfortunately, only about 60% of the students pass their semester exams.

Q:   Is Assam University good for M.A.?

A:
{Source: M.A. students & alumni}

Assam University offers a Master's degree programme in Manipuri Language and Literature, which is a unique course that focuses on the language, literature, history, and culture of Manipur. Here's what past students and alumni have said about their experience:

Pros:

* Good faculty: The professors are knowledgeable and passionate about their subject, making classes engaging and informative.
* Relevant curriculum: The course covers a wide range of topics related to Manipuri language, literature, history, and culture, providing a solid foundation for research, teaching, and cultural preservation.
* Well-maintained infrastructure: The university has modern classrooms, laboratories, and recreational facilities, ensuring a conducive environment for learning.
* Placements: While the placement record may not be outstanding, some students have secured jobs in government organizations, educational institutions, and media outlets.

Cons:

* Limited placement opportunities: Companies rarely visit the campus for recruitment, and students may need to rely on their own efforts to secure a job.
* Low stipend for interns: Internships are available, but the stipend is relatively low (Rs. 8,000 - Rs. 10,000 per month).
* Older hostels: The hostels could use renovation, according to some students.
* Food quality issues: Some students reported inconsistent food quality in the mess.

Overall Assessment:
While Assam University's M.A. programme in Manipuri Language and Literature has its strengths, such as good faculty and infrastructure, the lack of placement opportunities and low stipend for interns may deter some students. However, for those interested in pursuing a career in academia, research, or cultural preservation, this programme could still be a viable option.

Recommendation: For prospective students considering Assam University's M.A. programme in Manipuri Language and Literature, it's essential to weigh the pros and cons carefully. If you're willing to take initiative to secure a job or pursue further education, this programme could be a good fit.

Entrance Test (CUET) scores for admission to its UG/Integrated courses. Hence, it is compulsory to give the NTA CUET-UG exam to be eligible for admission to UG/Integrated courses. For PG/Diploma courses, a merit list is prepared on the basis of an entrance exam conducted by Assam University.
