Q:   What is the effectiveness of the placement cell for B.A. programs at Chandigarh University (CU)?

A:
{Source: B.A. students & alumni}

Here's the effectiveness of the placement cell for B.A. programs at Chandigarh University (CU):

Placement Cell Effectiveness

* According to students and alumni, only "a few" students from their course have been placed by the university's placement cell.
* However, many students from the Computer Science Engineering (CSE) department have been placed with good salary packages.
* While there isn't much information available about the placement cell's performance specifically for B.A. programs, it appears that the cell has had limited success in placing students from these courses.
* Overall, while CU's placement cell seems to have potential, it would benefit from improvement and increased efforts to place students from all disciplines.

Note: Since most of the information provided is anecdotal and doesn't represent a representative sample size, it's difficult to draw definitive conclusions about the effectiveness of the placement cell. Further research or data would be needed to gain a more complete understanding of the situation.

B.A. (Hons.) in Journalism and Mass Communication - Batch of 2024

Really good infrastructure and a great place for networking, although academics is a little average.
Placements: So around 15-20% of my batch students were placed by sitting in the campus placements, and many others had gotten placed on their own. The placement for Mass Communication and Journalism is very limited to Punjab news publications and 2-3 national publications and also not for any other streams like Advertising, Public Relations, Copywriting, or Travel Journalism even.
Infrastructure: But the infrastructure of CU is amazing and has a lot of places to hang out and is an amazing place to make friends and networking connections. The infrastructure will never disappoint you, whereas you guys have to be a little careful with the guards and the main road.
Faculty: The faculty members were very much educated and qualified at my time, although many have left the college this year due to changes in management and rigid course plans and no scope of improvement. The examinations, on the other hand, target basic knowledge questions about your course and ensure that a student is clear about the basics and gets a complete hold of the same.
Other: The environment is good, with many hygienic places to eat from and a surreal connection with nature. The campus is full of exciting opportunities, and most importantly, a student, apart from its academic depth, gets a lot of exposure if they join clubs and try to get into events. Although the depth doesn’t really support you, a little fun in college life doesn’t harm.

Absolutely dissatisfied for not providing Hons for the 2022 batch, but they are providing froom 2023
Placements: 60% of the students were placed in our course, with the highest package of 4 LPA. The lowest and average packages are not available. 60% of the students secured internships. Top roles offered were in the Sales Department, and others included Managing, etc.
Infrastructure: All the facilities like Wi-Fi, labs, classrooms, and library are available on campus. They work very well. Hostel food was okay—not bad, not too good. Canteen facilities were available, and 24x7 medical facilities are also available. Yes, there are grounds for sports and games.
Faculty: The teachers are helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable. The teaching quality was fine. The course curriculum is updated according to the latest UGC guidelines, and it also makes the student industry-ready. A minimum of 7.5 CGPA was the criteria to pass the semester.
Other: I chose this course because I like economics. Yes, there are events, fests, and scholarships also.

The faculty is good, the infrastructure is good, but ultimately, it is the placement that matters.
Placements: Mostly, a fewer number of students secure placements here as the institution does not provide proper placement assistance. The highest package for this course is 6 lakhs, and a limited number of companies visit. Initially, they claim to offer 100% placement, but it is not true.
Infrastructure: The college infrastructure is undoubtedly excellent, and my hostel experience was also positive. There are some restrictions and timings in the hostel that one needs to adhere to. The hostel atmosphere is pleasant, but the food quality is not satisfactory.
Faculty: Faculty members are exceptionally helpful and friendly. They provide every basic detail politely. The staff and teachers are supportive, and even our Head of Department (HOD) was helpful in guiding us on the right path for easy learning.

B.A. (Hons.) in Psychology - Batch of 2028

Placement is very less as compared to other departments.
Placements: For psychologist students, it's very hard to find the placement; you have to find yourself. But the faculties are very cooperative and, by nature, very friendly. Activities done by the department are very few, but from this year on, that's going well for the students.
Infrastructure: Classrooms do not contain AC it's very hot because of the climate. The library, where most of the books that are required for the department are, is situated at A3. Wi-Fi facilities are not there. No games are conducted as for the department. There is a sports meet.
Faculty: Faculties and HOD are very cooperative. The exams are considered every month, like mst1, mst2 and end-of-semester exams, which I find are difficult for the student to study; they need some time to get refreshed after every exam. And 75% attendance is mandatory.
Other: In the department of psychology, there are very few extracurricular activities.

Students of CU Chandigarh .
Placements: In my course students are getting placement in finance sector etc. 20% to 30% students are getting jobs. The highest package is 5 to 6.5 LPA, average is 4 to 3LPA and the lowest is 3 to 2.5 LPA. In my course, it is compulsory to bring internship certificate. Research writing is a must.
Infrastructure: There is no wi-fi available for students in classes. Labs are well maintained but the labs are only for BTEC, who take computer as a subject. Classroom is also well maintained. There are approximately 40 to 42 seats available in classes. In library, Wi-Fi is available for students.
Faculty: In my department, teachers are very good everyone was good and helpful. They are well qualified and knowledgeable. But hod was very rude. Teaching quality is good. Each semester exam was very difficult for me. Out of 60, students are required to obtain 21 marks.
Other: I chose this course because of subjects available in this course which is helpful for government exam. Best thing about this course is that you can cover general knowledge which comes in government exam. Things I wish would be better is that they should introduce more subjects related to General knowledge. Fest is helpful for freshers, campus surrounding is good, many extracurricular activities are also available.

Very good facilities and mentors, and the infrastructure was quite good as well.
Placements: Basically, in our field, there are many opportunities if you are a good candidate. There are multiple students who get placed at once; so, according to me, it's a good way to start. Some of the students are not placed because if you want to get placed, you need to take action and start searching for it, so it will be quite helpful for your future goals.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure was quite good and helpful for students. Actually, I have never been in the hostel, so I don’t know, but I have heard from my friends that the food was quite good, and the infrastructure of hostels was tremendous. I have also tried some of the dishes that were amazing, and the canteen has all types of food. Whatever you want to eat, you can easily find it.
Faculty: Yes, the teachers were good and helpful mentors who are always there for you no matter what and help you out in every kind of situation that you are facing. The semester exams were okay, not that tough; the thing was pretty clear. If you have attended the classes regularly, then it's not going to be a big deal for you.
