Frequently Asked Questions

Q:   Can I get admission to JNU without CUET?

A:

To get admission at Jawaharlal Nehru University, candidates must visit the official website of the University (jnu.ac.in) or NTA for course-wise admission criteria. JNU admission to most of the UG, PG and Diploma courses are based on candidates' performance in the CUET-UG & CUET-PG scores. For admission to JNU BA (Hons.) in Foreign Languages, BSc.-MSc Integrated programme in Ayurveda Biology and Certificate of Proficiency courses, JNU accepts CUET-UG. For JNU PG courses including MTech, MPH, MA, MSc, MCA and PG Diploma in Big Data, admission is based on CUET-PG scores. For JNU MBA admission 2025, CUET-PG is not valid and is dependent on CAT scores.

Q:   Is JNU better than DU?

A:

As per the NIRF 2024 rankings, JNU is ranked 2nd, while DU is ranked 6th under 'University' category. This clearly suggests that JNU is a better university overall. However, these rankings are based on a variety of factors. Furthermore, the best university for a student will depend on the individual needs and preferences. Here is the comparison of JNU and DU based on some key factors:

  • Academics: JNU is known for its strong academics and research focus. It has a number of world-renowned faculty members, and its students have gone on to achieve great things in their careers. DU is also a good university academically, but it is not as research-intensive as JNU.
  • Campus Life: JNU has a vibrant campus life with a strong student union. There are many student organizations and activities, and the university has a reputation for being a hotbed of political activism. DU also has a good campus life, but it is not as political as JNU.
  • Location: JNU is located in South Delhi, while DU is spread out across the city. This means that JNU students have a more central location, while DU students have more options when it comes to choosing a college or hostel.
  • Fees: The fees at JNU are lower than the fees at DU. This is because JNU is a central university, while DU is a state university.

Q:   What is the minimum marks for JNU admission?

A:

The educational qualification and minimum aggregate requirement varies course-wise. However, the basic eligibility remains the same i.e. Class 12 for UG and graduation for PG courses. Find below JNU eligibility criteria for top courses:

{Source: M.Sc. students & alumni}

Here's what current students and alumni have to say:

Pros:

* Excellent Faculty: Teachers are highly qualified, knowledgeable, and supportive. They provide great lessons, and practical classes are helpful.
* Good Infrastructure: The university has a great campus with modern facilities, including a state-of-the-art library, laboratories, and hostel amenities.
* Placements: While the placement rate may vary across departments, some students reported getting internships and even job offers from reputed companies like D.E. Shaw, Deloitte USI, and McKinsey & Company.
* Scholarships: The university offers scholarships to deserving students.
* Campus Life: Students enjoy a lively campus culture with regular events, festivals, and sports competitions.

Cons:

* Limited Placements: Not all students get placed immediately after completing their degree, although some do secure internships.
* Old Curriculum: Some students felt that the course curriculum could be updated to include more industrial exposure.
* Hostel Conditions: Although the hostel facilities are generally good, some students mentioned that they needed improvement.
* Facilities for Research Students: Limited research opportunities and resources might affect students' ability to pursue higher degrees.

Overall Assessment: Based on the feedback from students and alumni, pursuing an M.Sc. at JNU seems like a good choice for those interested in academics, research, and networking. While the placement record may not be stellar, the university's strong reputation, excellent faculty, and vibrant campus atmosphere make it an attractive option. However, potential students should weigh these pros against the cons and consider whether JNU aligns with their individual goals and expectations.

It is the best college and has value for money.
Placements: Some of my batchmates got placements after graduation. Many students went on to pursue master's, either in the same language or in different streams. The average salary package offered is around 6 LPA - 10 LPA. Many graduates from language streams get jobs in either translation or to train Al in that language.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of this campus is the best compared to other colleges in the whole of India. The campus is in Delhi. It is spread across more than 1,000 acres of land with full greenery. The hostel and educational buildings are the epitome of architecture. The whole campus is covered with Wi-Fi. The mess is diverse and provides good food.
Faculty: Teachers are extremely helpful and very dedicated to teaching. Professors here are of top quality, and their teaching methods are top-notch. Semester exams are tough. Students need to focus on their studies. Although attendance is not compulsory, students still need to attend classes.

Average infrastructure, good placements and a better environment .
Placements: Around 75% of students got placement through this course and they got 13–15 LPAs. There are various types of scholarships, like DAAD, the Germany Embassy, etc., and around 65% got internships at companies like Volkswagen, the German Bank, and the Embassy as translators and international market managers.
Infrastructure: Students got free Wi-Fi, labs with AC, big classrooms and a big 9-story library full of national and international books, magazines, and newspapers. JNU provides housing at a very low cost and provides 3 meals a day of good quality; there are almost 10 canteens on the university campus. And a health care center and a big stadium for games and tournaments.
Faculty: This course has the best placement and as a German, I have four economic nations. The course curriculum is more relevant and it teaches you not only the syllabus but also practical things like conversation games, meeting with foreigners and giving you experience to take jobs at the best company. Semester exams are quite difficult for an average student but they get passing marks when they study regularly.

Life in JNU and its Pros and Cons.
Placements: In language courses, you can't expect high placements. However, in JNU, if you want placement, you will get placed easily in multinational companies with an average package around 6 LPA. Amazon and other companies do visit the campus. However, many students opt for higher education, but you can easily get into companies.
Infrastructure: We have schools in the academic complex. So, for language, we have 2 schools of language and one language lab complex. All classrooms are fully AC, and Wi-Fi is available everywhere in the campus. Hostel has 2-person rooms. All hostel rooms have one fan, and each hostel has a water cooler fitted. The mess food is honestly very good.
Faculty: The faculty members are very experienced and highly qualified. They are also very helpful. The course curriculum is excellent as you are studying in the number 1 university. The semester exams are not that tough. If you give time to your subjects daily, then you will clearly excel.
Other: I have always been interested in learning languages, and JNU is the best and most affordable place for this. So, I joined JNU and am currently learning German.

Review of Jawaharlal Nehru University.
Placements: Top recruiting companies were Amazon, Facebook, Google, etc. The highest salary package offered was 7 LPA. Our college provided good internships. The placement cell was not good and the response was not quick.
Infrastructure: The library of our college was good. Sports activities were mild and inactive.
Faculty: Faculty members were straightforward and skilled. Their teaching methods were very innovative. The course curriculum was good and knowledgeable for a language subject. Exams were conducted in 3-4 sections per semester. The difficulty level of exams was moderate. Exams were conducted on time, and everything was asked from the provided study material.
Other: The fee structure of Jawaharlal Nehru University was affordable. Our course fee was Rs. 2,500 but this didn't include books. The admission process was simple. Students should give an entrance exam to get admission to this college. Many social groups and clubs are present in our college according to society. Many students participate. Our college provides a good education. Many fests, hostel nights, and cultural nights are organised on campus.

Hello Anupriya, Of course you should. Else what is the use doing only A1 level? One by one you should go up to C2 or whatever level DU is offering. This only will make you eligible for different opportunities for employment.
