M.Phil. in Statistics - Batch of 2023
2
2Placements3Infrastructure2Faculty2Crowd & Campus Life1Value for Money
Bad experience, could not have been worse
Placements: In our batch, 42.8% were placed. The highest package offered was 9 lakhs offered by Federal Bank and minimum was 4.5 lakhs offered by Xceedance. Average package was around 5 lakhs. Only 2-3 students got internship. The roles offered were actuarial analyst, underwriting analyst.
Infrastructure: The quality of classroom and lab is not too good. Most of the computers are outdated and no new technology is taught to the students. Library is good. Hostel quality is very poor. There is not hygiene. Food served in the mess is also not nice. My experience of living in the hostel was terrible.
Faculty: Mostly teachers are nice and have in depth knowledge about their subject. But few teachers do not put efforts in explaining the concepts to the students. The course curriculum would help one to prepare for NET, GATE etc exams but it does not make one industry ready. Teachers do not give marks.
Other: I chose this subject because I was very much interested in statistics. But studying here I lost all of my interest in the subject. The teachers teach in way only intelligent students can understand and not according to the general level of class. If you score good marks you are a good student otherwise you do not exist in class. Students with less marks are looked down upon. Good ones are pushed forward whereas average ones are suppressed. One of the teachers behaves like a bully always threatening with her position and insulting students who do not score good marks. All the focus is on marks. Students are not given practical exposure in order to make them industry ready. My mental health hit an all time low during my time here. I would certainly recommend to not take admission here because few good teachers are going to retire very soon and then the god knows what is going to happen to this department. No extra curricular activities are conducted . Seminars are conducted on regular basis.
