SRMIST Hosts Three-Day International Conference on Nanoscience & Nanotechnology
February 1, 2021: Department of Physics and Nanotechnology, SRMIST - SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai hosted an International Conference on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICONN 2021) in association with Shizuoka University-Japan, National Chiao Tung University (NCTU)-Taiwan, GNS Geological and Nuclear Sciences (GNS) Science-New Zealand, University of Rome Tor Vergata-Italy, RMIT University-Australia, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR)-India, Asian Consortium on Computational Materials Science (ACCMS), Indian Physics Association (IPA), Materials Research Society of India (MRSI), Indian Carbon Society (ICS)-India and Springer Nature.
The three-day event was held between February 1-3, 2021 aiming at providing a platform for researchers and scientists to discuss the latest advances in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology for promising applications. Science sessions covered low-dimensional and 2D structures, interfaces and thin films, nanocomposites and catalysts, multifunctional nanomaterials, to name a few. Over 70 sessions were delivered over the span of three days facilitated by eminent speakers from renowned international institutions such as the University of California, Berkeley-CA, Tokyo Institute of Technology-Japan, The Australian National University, Canberra-Australia, University of Cambridge-UK and the University of Maryland-USA. The event witnessed the active participation of over 2,400 students.
Secretary, Department of Science and Technology (DST) Govt. of India, CV Seshadri Chair Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Kanpur Professor Ashutosh Shama addressed the audience talking about DST-based programmes and schemes to build R&D facilities in different institutions around the country through the funding of research projects.
SRMIST is also honouring eminent scientists with SRM-ICONN Innovation Award, SRM-ICONN Outstanding Woman Researcher Award, with SRM-ICONN Young Researcher Award. Around 300 students across India have registered for this programme.
SRM Team Wins Flipkart Grid 2.0 Robotics Challenge
January 22, 2021: Final year BTech students from the Departments of Electronics & Communication and Mechanical Engineering at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur recently won the National Flipkart GRiD 2.0 Robotics Challenge. Their problem statement was Autonomous Stair Climbing Robot.
Among 500 teams that participated in the event, a total of nine teams could reach out to the final round. The key framework for their final presentation included – High level walkthrough solution, Hardware options (what & why), Tech Choices (what & why), Simulation and Demo, Solution distinction component, and Viability & Difficulties, if actual prototyping is finished.
"We have given workable solutions to several particular issues. A lot of new developments have been made to thoroughly overcome the problem statement. We also offered a generalised approach that is consistent with most work environments.", says the team.
The team was guided by Dr Rajesh Agarwal, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, SRMIST.
The team was awarded an Electronic Gift Voucher (EGV) of Rs 1,50,000 for emerging as national winners. They also were awarded EGV of Rs 1,500 for clearing the first round and getting into the top 50 teams and Flipkart Goodies.

SRMIST to Host 16th Annual Convocation on December 26; Invites ISRO Chairman Dr K Sivan
December 22, 2020: Kattankulathur-based SRMIST - SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai will organise its 16th Annual Convocation ceremony on December 26. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the event is being conducted virtually as per the Tamil Nadu government protocol. Based on the limitations levied by the state government, only rank holders and PhD degree awardees will be presented their degrees in person at Dr TP Ganesan Auditorium, Main Campus, Kattankulathur. The remaining qualifying graduates are invited to participate in the virtual ceremony.
In this convocation ceremony, over 17,199 graduands from various disciplines such as Engineering & Technology, Science & Humanities, Medical & Health Sciences and Management studies will be awarded their degrees which includes 129 PhD scholars. About 244 students will be awarded medals for having secured First, Second and Third rank in their respective courses.
To felicitate the graduands, the institute has invited Chairman of ISRO, Bangalore and Secretary, Department of Space, Government of India Dr K Sivan as the chief guest of the event.
Endowment award in the name of Tmt Pachimmal Palanimuthu for the best outgoing MBBS student and Tmt Swarnam & Dr Krishnamoorthy Endowment award for the best overall outgoing student of SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Center will be awarded to Kritika Wadhwa for topping among all students in the final year and in the overall duration of the course in MBBS programme. Endowment in the name of Tmt Lakshmi and Dr Renganathan for the best outgoing BDS student of SRM Kattankulathur Dental College and Hospital will be awarded to K Shyam Sharma.
