B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering - Batch of 2024
Offered by UEM Kolkata - University of Engineering and Management
4.2

It has exellent faculty members, placements are challenging and infrastructure is appreciable.
Placements: Nearly 90% of the students get placed in mechanical department. The highest salary package offered is of 22 LPA and the average salary package offered is of about 5 LPA to 6 LPA. Top recruiting companies are- Works, TCS, Nestle India, Webel, and Infosys. Around 35% of the students got internships from this course in foreign companies like Works. Top roles offered are production engineer and assistant engineer.
Infrastructure: The hostels or the paying guest quarters of the college are quite well maintained with Wi-Fi and food are included in the package. The food served is average but is hygienic. But the mess lacks in the facility. Medical care is usually first aid level but hospitals are located near the Newtown area, which eases the worries.
Faculty: Our head of the department, is the one most knowledgeable and respectable faculty members along with the other teachers. They are helpful, and also M.Tech qualified faculty, most of them are currently pursuing their Ph.D. The course currciulum si relevant and no matter what people say, mechanical in engineering in always worth it, they are still relevant with the other most in-demand stream- computer engineering. The college take cares of every aspect of the student's growth and that is why the mid term examinations are taken twice before we appear for our end semester examination. The questions in the examinations are pretty standard with the pass percent of 35%.
Other: I chose this course because personally I want to pursue MBA, after completing in B.Tech in mechanical engineering. Some of the things I wish improved in our course is that some of the subjects like Fluid Mechanics and Machines have too lengthy syllabus, this can be taken care of by splitting it into two subjects. Introducing more Progamming languages may help us perform better in placements. We have many types of events- cultural fests like Ecsacia, Tech fests like Urecon and UemMnu. In all of the mentioned fests students look forward to these the whole year. Campus is most of the days it is litle crowded and connectivity is excellent. Scholarships are provided to those who score 90% and above in board examinations and will continue getting scholarships if they maintain 9.5 CGPA.

Very much satisfied by choosing UEM, Kolkata as my graduation college.
Placements: We had almost 1200 students in our batch including all streams of B.Tech and BBA and BCA. As a matter of pride UEM Kolkata was able to successfully place all the students of this huge batch size who were eligible to sit for a Job. The highest package was offered by Adobe of 40 LPA whereas the top recruiting companies this year was Cognizant, Wipro and TCS. The top recruiting companies for the Mechanical stream was from Dubai.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of UEM, Kolkata is good enough to meet all the requirements of a student to study but yes they do lack a proper ground but apart from that the Labs, libraries are all well-equipped. There are many canteens and food will never be a problem both in terms of cost and quality.
Faculty: The teachers of my department were extremely helpful and supportive and they were ready to listen to us and guide us whenever we needed them. The course curriculum was very well updated too and we were always backed by the teachers for each and everything.
Other: The campus life is mostly all about studies and less of sports as we do not have any free period and of-course not allowed to bunk classes. If you want to sit in the library you are allowed to do so only if you are in the final year of your course or after your class hours.

The quality of education offered is good, but there is less focus on extracurricular activities.
Placements: As there are only a few core job opportunities available, placing the students of the mechanical engineering department is a relatively tough job. However, the students of our senior batch were able to get placed with an average package of Rs. 30,000 per month, which I think is a decent package to start the careers of average students.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the college is not that good. The focus is more on providing proper education and helping the students get placed. There are different types of canteens available for vegetarian and non-veg food varieties. All types of food are affordable here and are of good quality. Hostel rooms are not available on the campus. You have to look for a mess facility and rooms for rent. The library is open 24*7, and you always have to come in the college uniform.
Faculty: Faculty members are very helpful and are well qualified in their respective fields. Even the faculty members from IEM visit the campus to give lectures, so the faculty members are very good here. The college helps you find internships at proper places, and they also organise industrial visits. They teach you subjects from various fields to make you an all-rounder. You can also compete in any industry regardless of your department.
Other: This is a very highly disciplined college. They ask us to follow too much discipline at times. However, I can guarantee you one thing that if you want to do well in your field, you will be given enough opportunities. Regular fests and seminars are arranged to expose you to recent trends. Scholarships are also given to help and motivate students.

Various workshops and programs are available to boost up students with the best practical knowledge.
Placements: Although it's a new engineering college, a few IT software companies like Wipro and Infosys have visited the campus for placements. Our faculty members and college management are putting their full efforts to make the students well-prepared for clearing interviews. So in the future, many more companies will visit our college for placements.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the college is good enough to fulfill almost all of our engineering requirements. The college has almost all required labs for practicals, in all the departments. Recently, they have installed a few new technological testing machines for the mechanical department. Rooms are available for extracurricular activities too. Canteens are also available, and they offer hygienic food. Hostels are also available for students to live and study, and they are clean. There are security guards available 24x7 in both boys and girls hostels.
Faculty: Faculty members are putting their best efforts to carve the students. They are providing the best of what they have. They also deal with the students personally. All the teachers have good knowledge along with a good technique of teaching at this level. They are providing the students with proper study materials, assignments along with a good study plan to score well in academics.
Other: Every year, our college organises a freshers' party for the newcomers, and they also organise several cultural fests, events, sports events, and many other programs. These events and workshops are conducted to boost up the knowledge of the students.

Overall for industry ready purpose it's the best one you can find.
Placements: Last year all the eligible students of BCA batch got the placements. And the upcoming placements will be for the first batch of this university, i.e., B.TECH batch. It seems it will be good for IT job seekers, and bit difficult for core job seekers hoping for the best.
Infrastructure: From it's new days to now, there are changes which are mind blowings. At first, there were no labs for the mechanical branch, but now gradually the labs are built. And otherwise the facilities of canteen (CCD including), the basketball ground are there.
Faculty: The faculty members are mediocre at a high level all are there. If you are looking for the knowledge of any recent days programming language, UEM is the best place, and UEM itself does lots of extracurricular activities. The teaching qualities and discipline, all are fabulous.
