This is NIRF 1 for 5 consecutive times.
Placements: Around 80-90% of students are placed and some of the other students do not even sit for placements. Mostly recruiting companies will be startups and students will get an opportunity to see how is a startup built and also students will be a part of it. Most research roles are there, and students seek non-core placements.
Infrastructure: This college has the best medical facility, it also provides the best sports facility. It has a good canteen and restaurants. Mess food quality is average, but it is the same in all engineering colleges. IIT Madras was 23 times champion in inter IIT sports championship.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful and highly qualified. They also help with the topics other than academics. The curriculum is very relevant. The curriculum is tough but good score achievable. Passing is mostly based on relative grading.
Other: Everything about this college is good that is why it is on the top.

You will have a really good campus life and good placements here.
Placements: The placement scenario is amazing here, even in this COVID-19 pandemic time. Our branch ranks third in campus placements, while CS is the first and EE is in the second position. The average salary package offered for our branch was 15 LPA in 2019-2020. We get compulsory internships which are mostly paid. There are non-paid internships also.
Infrastructure: The hostel facility is good enough here, and first-year students mostly get double or triple sharing rooms. Later, they will get single rooms. Rooms are not much huge but have basic facilities including Wi-Fi. There is a huge library, which is air-conditioned and has a lot of books for reference.
Faculty: The professors here are very knowledgeable and well qualified. The course will be a bit hectic and time-consuming. However, the topics are very interesting, and we need to spend a lot of time on some practical courses. It is important to manage our time well. Otherwise, we will find it hard to cope up.

I am extremely happy with the college.
Placements: Almost 80 to 85% of the students got placed. The average salary package offered was 10 LPA. Around 100 companies visited our campus for placements. Many core companies, like consulting, analytical, finance and engineering, visited our campus for placements. Similar companies visit for internships except for consulting companies. The lowest salary package offered was 6 LPA. The highest salary package offered was around 60-70 LPA. The college also provides internships. The placement cell is managed by students, and it is quite efficient. The lowest stipend offered was Rs.10,000 per month, and the highest stipend was Rs. 1.5 Lacs per month.
Infrastructure: The college has a decent infrastructure in terms of classrooms, labs, canteen and hostels. Labs and only some specific classrooms are air-conditioned. Food facilities are available 24x7 for all cuisines. There is a scarcity of hostels which should be resolved.
Faculty: Teachers are knowledgeable and helpful. They are more focused on research. The course curriculum is highly interesting and has a lot of practice of problem-solving, with industrial exposure. The courses are more practical oriented, where product designing was the primary focus. Problems from real-life situations are solved.
Other: The college provides amazing sports facilities and also conducts inter-IIT competitions. The college organises Saarang which is the cultural fest. There is a CFI centre for innovation. A techfest named Shaastra is conducted.

Students also asked

Q:   How can I get admission in IIT Madras?

A:

To seek admission to the BTech programme offered at IIT Madras, candidates need to visit the official website of the National Testing Agency (NTA) and fill out the application form in online mode for JEE Main. For other courses such as MSc, MTech, BS-MS (Dual Degree) etc., candidates must visit the official website of respective national-level entrance exam conducting bodies and fill out the application form in online mode. IIT Madras admission to most of the courses is entrance-based. For detailed information around IIT Madras course admission, click here.

Q:   Can we join IIT Madras without JEE?

A:

Yes, there are many other courses for which the selection criteria are different and the prescribed entrance exam is also other than JEE-Main and JEE-Advanced. Below are some of the courses offered at IIT Madras along with their eligibility criteria and entrance exam:

  • MTech: IIT Madras offers a two-year full-time M.Tech programme across various specialisations. The institute inducts candidates for the M.Tech programmes based on valid GATE scores followed by the counselling process.
  • MBA: For admission to the full-time two year MBA programme at IIT Madras, candidates are required to appear for the CAT exam. Candidates based on their CAT scores will be shortlisted for the Group Discussion & Personal Interview (PI) round.
  • MSc: IIT Madras accepts admission to the MSc programme based on a valid score/ rank in the IIT-JAM exam.

Q:   Can I join a B.Sc course at IIT Madras without giving JEE?

A:

IIT Madras BSc admission is entrance-based as the institute primarily accepts the rank and scores of the JEE Main examination for admission to its full-time BSc programme. However, if candidates wish to apply for the integrated BS plus MS programme, then they can apply for admission through the scores of the IISER Aptitude Test. Therefore, you can join the BSc course at IIT Madras without giving the JEE.

Q:   Can I get admission to IIT Madras with a low JEE rank?

A:
Admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) is highly competitive and the admission process is based on the candidate's JEE Advanced rank. However, admission to IIT Madras or any other IIT with a low JEE rank is unlikely, as the cutoff for admission is generally very high. That being said, it's important to remember that JEE rank is not the only factor that IITs consider during the admission process. Other factors such as academic performance, extracurricular activities, and achievements in related fields may also be taken into account. Additionally, some IITs offer other admission channels like the Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) scheme, which allows foreign nationals to apply for admission to IITs based on their SAT scores. It's always best to check the official IIT Madras website for the most up-to-date information on their admission process, eligibility criteria, and other requirements.

Q:   Which courses does IIT Madras have?

A:

IIT Madras offers around 100 undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral degree courses. The courses include BTech, BTech-MTech (Dual Degree), BS-MS (Dual Degree), Integrated MA, MTech, MBA, MSc, MS by Research and PhD. Additionally, IITM has signed MoUs with foreign universities to offer Joint PhD and JDP programme. The institute is also known for its Quality Improvement Programme (QIP), which is sponsored by the AICTE and is the world’s first online BSc programme. IIT Madras has also started for an 8-week free online course on Data Science.
