NIT Calicut offers a regular Master of Planning (MPlan) course in Urban Planning. The institute offers this course in a full-time mode over a duration of two years. Admission to the course is based on GATE score followed by CCMT Counselling. The seat intake for the course is 16.

Bachelor's degree (BPlan or equivalent) with a minimum of 60% aggregate is the basic eligibility for the Master of Planning (MPlan) course offered at NIT Calicut. NIT Calicut admissions are entirely entrance-based for all its UG & PG courses. Candidates are shortlisted based on their past academic records along with their scores in the respective entrance exams accepted for different courses. Further, the institute also conducts GD and PI rounds for the final selection. Eligible candidates can apply by visiting the official website of the respective entrance exams. No, NIT Calicut does not facilitate direct admission to any of the courses. Admission is entirely based on merit in the national-level exams, including JEE Main,  GATE,  IIT JAM,  CAT,  NIMCET,  UGC NET, etc. Candidates are further required to participate in other selection rounds, such as counselling, written exam, and interview as well, as per the applied course selection criteria.

NIT Calicut comes under the top 3 NITs in India. The institute has a central library and a digital library. The Central Library of NIT Calicut is one of the best technical libraries in South India. It has a very good collection of more than 1.33 lakh technical and scientific books. The Central Computer Centre (CCC) is another central facility of the Institute that caters to the computing requirements of the campus community. The students live in hostels on campus. There are 13 hostels on the campus, out of which 10 are for boys and 3 for girls. The students also have access to a 25-station gymnasium, playfields for football, cricket, and hockey, a cricket net practice zone and pitch, etc., and a swimming pool. There is also an exclusive fitness centre attached to the ladies’ hostel, which has a gymnasium, badminton court, and table tennis room.

Candidates preparing for IITs are only required to appear for the JEE Advanced entrance exam after qualifying JEE Main. Students who who secure above the 98th percentile in JEE Main 2024 Session 2 should start preparing for JEE Advanced 2025 immediately. Those who score between 95th and 98th percentile should focus on improving their JEE Main score by taking multiple mock tests and practicing previous year's question papers. By analysing their strengths and weaknesses, candidates can identify their areas of proficiency and topics where they need improvement. If they can achieve full marks in their practice sessions, they can start preparing for JEE Advanced. However, if they cannot score full marks, it is recommended that they appear for multiple mock test series for more practice.

Candidates seeking admission to a BTech course at NIT Calicut must have a valid JEE Main score and shall meet the minimum eligibility criteria. To be eligible to apply for the course, students must pass Class 12 with a minimum of 75% aggregate. To take the entrance test, aspirants need to register online on the NTA website (nta.ac.in).
