Engineering Admission Process 2025
The procedure for admission to engineering courses is almost the same across all top engineering colleges. The syllabus as well as the pattern are also quite similar and candidates must be prepared in order to secure a seat in any of the top colleges.
- Candidates must first choose their preferred specialisation that they wish to pursue under the discipline of Engineering.
- Further, they must fulfil the minimum eligibility criteria for Engineering entrance examinations that is to score 50 to 75 percent marks in Class 12th in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The aggregate marks for SC, ST and PWD category are usually relaxed to around 5% in order for them to be eligible for entrance examinations.
- Candidates must be aware about the different entrance exam scores accepted by the colleges and universities they wish to apply for and then fill out the application forms accordingly. They must appear for the entrance examination on the scheduled date after preparing religiously for it.
- Candidates need to stay updated about the result declaration dates and visit the respective official websites to download their scorecards. Based on the cut-off and rank awarded to the candidates, they will be selected for counselling process.
- The opening and closing ranks for various branches across various Engineering colleges will determine whether a candidate is able to secure admission to the desired engineering college. Once the seat is allocated, candidates need to pay the course fees and submit necessary documents in the college for verification. After that, they can attend the classes as per the academic calendar.

Q. What is the difference between Diploma in Engineering and BTech in Engineering?
A. The difference between BTech and Diploma courses in Engineering are as follows:
BTech in Engineering | Diploma in Engineering |
---|---|
Entry is after completing Class 12th | Entry is after completing Class 10th |
The duration of the course is 4 years | The duration of the course is 3 years |
Top entrance exams include JEE Main, KIITEE, SAAT, TS EAMCET, APEAMCET etc. | Top entrance exams include state-education department conducted state-level entrance exams. |
Q. What is Lateral-Entry BTech programme?
A. Lateral BTech is engineering programme which attracts candidates who wish to pursue engineering after completing diploma courses in engineering. Therefore those candidates who have completed Diploma in engineering after Class 10th can enter directly into second year of BTech programme, hence called BTech Lateral Entry. A regular candidate pursues BTech after completing Class 12th and therefore completes the course in 4 years whereas those who pursue 3 year Diploma course finish BTech in 3 years due to lateral entry. The only difference arises in the course duration of BTech and BTech Lateral Entry.
Q. What are the eligibility criteria to pursue undergraduate course (BTech) from top engineering colleges?
