- The marks obtained by aspirants.
- The category under which the candidate is seeking admission.
Q. What is better to do after engineering - MTech or prepare for a government job? I have done BTech CSE.
A. Nowadays, the same dilemma is faced by many students. The fact is it is not easy to get government jobs nowadays. You can prepare for government job but do not sit ideal just thinking that you will get government job. I would recommend you to go for M.Tech side by side. As your year will not be wasted and you will prepare yourself for government job and also for M.Tech.
While applying for M.Tech, make sure to secure very good marks and a decent rank so that you get admission in IIT or NIT or some top private institute. It is always great to target the best institution and pull up your socks accordingly in order to have a fulfilling career ahead.
Q. Is an M.Tech degree from IIT hard?
A. Yes, M.Tech from IIT is tough, as IITs have a reputation for excellence, and that extends to M.Tech programs. Moreover, M.Tech dives deeper into specialised areas, often involving research projects. Plus, you are surrounded by brilliant minds, hence you'll be constantly on your toes to keep up. It's a stimulating push, but can also be intensely pressurising.
Q. What is the difference between the GATE qualifying and admission cutoffs?
A. The qualifying cutoff is used to determine whether a candidate is eligible for admission to any postgraduate programme such as MTech and PhD, while the admission cutoff is used to select candidates for admission to a specific programme in a particular institute such as IITs, NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs.
Moreover, The qualifying cutoff is determined by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, while the admission cutoff is determined by the respective institute.
Q. How much time does the MTech admission process take, from the entrance exams to the seat allotment process?
A. It differs from one institution to another. Every academic institution has their own set of guidelines that they follow for admission to various MTech specializations. The time involved in the admission process may take a few months. After you appear for your entrance exams like GATE, CEETA PG, TS PGECET, etc., the general admission procedure involves the declaration of exam results, applying for the counselling process online, seat allotment on the basis of your exam rank, and admission confirmation from your end by visiting the college and paying the necessary MTech course fees and getting your documents verified.
Q. Who is eligible for pursuing MTech courses at NITs in India?
A. National Institutes of Technology (NITs) ask for a minimum of 60% marks in your bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering branch. You need to work hard for your final BTech/B. E exams and make sure you get at least 60% marks overall, to be eligible for admission to the popular NITs in India. The competition is very high there, given their status and All-India ranking in India, and hence, their minimum marks requirement is also of a certain standard as compared to other universities that may consider you for admission with 50 to 60% marks in graduation as well.
