BTech Course Admission 2025: Entrance Exams, Dates, Eligibility, Application, Selection
Vidhi JainContent Writer
The BTech admission eligibility criteria require students to have passed Class 12 in the Science background with a minimum of 50 to 75 percent marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects, which varies on the basis of the course specialization, institution, and its location. A few of the BTech course specializations might need Biology or Computer Science as one of the subjects as well. B Tech full form is Bachelor of Technology, and these courses are extremely popular among Indian students and highly sought after because of their value in the competitive job market. BTech courses emphasise more on the technological aspects and Engineering applications that prove to be beneficial in the long run.
Some of the prominent and highly competitive BTech entrance exams include JEE Main, JEE Advanced, TNEA, MHT CET, KCET, COMEDK UGET, CUET, KEAM, etc. Other than these national level and state-level entrance tests, several popular private BTech colleges in India conduct their own exams such as VITEEE, SRMJEEE, BITSAT, IPU CET, etc. for admission to various BTech courses. Several private institutes also offer admission on the basis of merit, considering the performance of students in Class 12 board exams. They usually conduct additional rounds such as the personal interview or skill assessment round in that case.
The popularity of B Tech courses is evident from the number of colleges and universities offering these programs across India. Overall, there are more than 4,500 BTech colleges in India offering popular BTech specializations such as Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Electronics and Communications Engineering, BTech in CSE, and BTech in ECE. Other specializations that have gained momentum in recent times include Biotechnology Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Mining Engineering, and BTech in Electronics Engineering.
Some of the popular BTech colleges in the country include the IITs and the NITs such as IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, IIT Delhi, NIT Trichy, NIT Surathkal, among others. Other popular academic institutions are Delhi Technological University (DTU), Jadavpur University, VIT Vellore, SRM University, BITS Pilani, Thapar University, etc. The average B Tech course fees at these reputed colleges is between INR 1 lakh and INR 19 lakh, depending on the chosen specialization and the college.

Q. Can BTech courses be pursued from other colleges except IITs and NITs?
A. Definitely. Not only IITs and NITs offer engineering courses but other government colleges which are either central universities or state universities also offer various programmes. These colleges are as old as the foremost IITs and boast a legacy and history of producing renowned industrialists in the country. These colleges also offer admissions on the basis of state-level entrance examinations and provide domicile reservation facilities. Candidates who wish to study in their home state can surely avail the advantage of securing admission in central or state universities. The engineering departments across these colleges have excellent faculties and provide great placement opportunities.
Q. What is JEE Main and JEE Advanced?
A. JEE Main is the most competitive and popular engineering entrance examination which is conducted for BTech admissions. This exam can be written by candidates who have scored minimum 75% marks in Class 12th. Most of the colleges in India accept JEE Main scores and candidates must have studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics thoroughly in order to clear this exam. Paper 1 is for BTech aspirants whereas Paper 2 is for B.Arch aspirants. JEE Advanced is the second stage and can be appeared only by those who have cleared JEE Mains. IITs and NITs admit candidates only on the basis of ranks scored in JEE Advanced. JEE Advanced is of a higher difficulty level as compared to JEE Mains.
Q. What are the eligibility criteria to pursue undergraduate course (BTech) from top engineering colleges?
A. To pursue BTech from any reputed engineering college, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria which are as follows:
- Candidates must have passed the Class 12 exam from a recognized board with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as core subjects.
- Candidates should have scored minimum 55% in final examination of Class 12th in order to be eligible to secure admission in any college.
