IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi Admission Process via CAET 2025

CAET 2025: The IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi BTech admission is done based on the CAET exam and JEE Advanced exam. The admission process for the UAE Nationals, International Candidates, and Indian Expatriates includes qualifying the Combined Admission Entrance Test (CAET). On the other hand, Indian nationals are permitted to secure admission to the Abu Dhabi campus based on their JEE Advanced ranks via the JoSAA counselling process.

CAET 2025 will be conducted in two sessions: the first session is scheduled for February 16, with the application window closing on February 6. The second session will take place on April 13, with CAET 2025 application form for session 2 releasing on March 3. A candidate can choose to appear for both sessions or any session of CAET 2025. CAET 2025 session 1 exams will be held in centres across Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah in the UAE and New Delhi in India. Some additional venues be made available in different cities in different countries for session 2 exams.

The IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi admission process via CAET involves several steps: submitting the CAET 2025 application form, obtaining the admission ticket (CAET admit card), taking the CAET, and subsequently the seat allocation process. Candidates selected via CAET will have their seat allotments managed through a dedicated portal that will be accessible on abudhabi.iitd.ac.in. Important note:

  • First, one-third of the total UG seats in IIT Delhi Abhu Dhabi campus are reserved for JEE Advanced 2025 rank holders and will be allotted via the JoSAA counselling 2025. Two-thirds of the total UG seats would be allotted through CAET 2025 for the UAE Nationals and Indian Expatriates / International Candidates. 
  • Secondly, 50% of the total seats available through CAET 2025 will be allotted to the top-performing candidates after Session 1 of CAET 2025. The rest of the seats available through CAET will be allotted based on the Final Merit List/Ranking after Session 2 of CAET 2025.

What is CAET?

Combined Admission Entrance Test (CAET) is an entrance exam for admission to the BTech courses offered at the Abu Dhabi campus of IIT Delhi. This entrance exam is ONLY for UAE Nationals, International Candidates and Indian Expatriates.

CAET is held in pen and paper-based test mode in two sessions in a year. The candidates will get two opportunities to appear in CAET. If a candidate appears in both sessions, the better CAET score out of the two will be considered for final selection for IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi admission process. CAET is of 3 hours duration with one paper that consists of three parts - Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. All three parts have equal weightage. Attempting all the subject parts of the paper is compulsory. Each subject part would consist of 20 questions. Thus, a candidate would answer a total of 60 questions in 3 hours.

IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi CAET Application Form 2025

Candidates have to register for CAET 2025 on the official website of IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi campus - abudhabi.iitd.ac.in. To register candidates have to provide the following details:

  • Candidate’s name

After the candidates complete the registration, they can proceed to fill in the CAET 2025 application form. The online application form will be deemed complete only after the online fee payment is successful.

A:

IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi campus BTech admissions will be based on either the Combined Entrance Admission Test (CAET) or JEE (Advanced), depending on the applicant's category:

  • CAET is for UAE Nationals, Indian expatriates with 5 years of schooling in the UAE, and International students. For CAET, candidates have to submit the CAET 2025 application form, appear for CAET and qualify it, and subsequently fill branch choice and seats will be allotted based on CAET final merit list.
  • Indian Nationals must qualify for JEE (Advanced) 2025 and apply through the JoSAA Seat Allocation Portal.

IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi CAET 2025 Eligibility

The eligibility criteria for admission to the IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi campus through CAET 2025 are given below. 

Nationality: Only those candidates falling under UAE Nationals, International Candidates and Indian Expatriates are eligible for admission to IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi campus through CAET 2025. The others are advised to apply through the JEE Advanced 2025.

Who are called Indian Expatriates?

Indian nationals (holding Indian passport), living in the UAE for at least the past five years and completed schooling for their class VIII to class XII (or equivalent) in the UAE are defined as Indian Expatriates. 

Board Exam Marks: Must have a minimum of 75% marks or equivalent in AT LEAST TWO of the following subjects:

  1. Chemistry
  2. Physics
  3. Mathematics

 AND, a minimum of 80% aggregate marks (in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, a language, and one more subject other than the above four) or equivalent in the class XII board examination.

The following candidates can apply for CAET 2025:

  1. UAE Nationals appearing or completed Grade 12.
  2. UAE Residents of Indian origin, and have completed last 5 years of schooling (Grade 8 - 12) in UAE.
  3. International students (Foreign Nationals, other than UAE and Indian Nationals) can also apply.

Note:

  • Applicants currently in Grade 12 awaiting results may also apply, but they must provide their mark sheet upon selection.
  • Interested Indian applicants residing in India or abroad may apply for admission to IIT Delhi – Abu Dhabi by appearing for JEE JEE Advanced 2025 through the JoSAA Portal.

Age / Date of birth: Candidates should have been born on or after 01 October 2000. Two-year age relaxation may be applicable as per UAE national policy.

Number of Attempts: A candidate should have appeared / should be appearing for the Class/Grade XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in either 2025 or 2024. Candidates whose first appearance in the Class/Grade XII examination in 2023 and earlier years are NOT eligible. One year relaxation will be given to UAE Nationals who served one year of compulsory military service supported by a valid certificate.

Prior Admission to IIT: A candidate should NOT have been admitted to any Indian Institute of Technology earlier, irrespective of whether the candidate continued in the program or accepted and then vacated an IIT seat. IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi Admission Process

Check below the IIT Delhi Abu Dhabi campus admission process:

  • Through the CAET entrance exam: Out of the total seats offered at IIT Delhi - Abu Dhabi, two-third of the seats in each program are available for UAE Nationals and International Students / Indian expatriates who have studied for the past 5 years in the UAE, through Combined Admission Entrance Test (CAET) 2025.
  • Through JEE Advanced exam: The remaining one-third of total seats are available for Indian/Foreign nationals through JEE Advanced 2025.

Step 1 - Register for CAET: Check eligibility and understand if you are eligible for admission via CAET. Once you find yourself eligible, register for CAET 2025.

Step 2 - Download CAET Admit Card: Next, the registered candidates have to download the CAET admit card to be able to appear for the exam. The exam date, time and exam centre details is intimated to the candidates via the CAET admit card.

Step 3 - Appear for CAET: The Combined Admission Entrance Test (CAET) is held in offline pen and paper based mode. Candidates have to appear for the exam which is held for 3 hours across various centres. The questions in the exam will be asked from Maths, Physics and Chemistry. The exam is held twice a year.

Step 4 - Check CAET Result: To know whether a candidate has qualified the entrance exam, candidates have to check the CAET scores. The scores are released online on the official website.

Step 5 - Choice Filling and Seat Allotment: Based on the final CAET scores, candidates are given rank in the merit list. The candidates with ranks have to fill in choices of BTech course for admission. The seats are then allotted to the candidates based on their course preference and CAET ranks.

  2. Appear for JEE Main 2025 and achieve a rank among the top 2.5 lakh candidates in BE/BTech paper

  6. Check JEE Advanced result and qualify the cutoff
  7. Register in JoSAA counselling for seat allotment in IITs

CAET 2025 Admit Card

The registered candidates for CAET are issued the CAET 2025 admit card. Candidates must carry a printed copy of the downloaded CAET admit card and their valid original photo identity card (any photo ID acceptable in the country of examination centre) for the CAET 2025 test. Only candidates with valid CAET admit cards and photo identity cards can write the entrance test. 

CAET 2025 Exam Day Instructions

Check below the guidelines for the CAET 2025 exam day:

What to carry at CAET exam centres: Candidates are advised to bring their own writing materials such as pens, pencils, erasers and sharpeners. Only these items, drinking water in a transparent bottle, the downloaded CAET test admit card and an original photo identity card are allowed to be taken inside the examination hall.

Things not allowed at the CAET exam centre: The following items will NOT be allowed inside the examination centre:

  • Programmable calculators
  • Mobile phones
  • Bluetooth devices
  • Earphones
  • Microphone
  • Pagers
  • Smart watches or any other electronic gadgets
  • Any printed/blank/handwritten paper
  • Log tables
  • Writing pads
  • pen drives
  • Electronic pens/Scanner
  • Camera or similar such items

Verification of identity: The candidate’s identity will be verified at the examination centre by invigilators as well as IIT Delhi representatives. If the identity of the candidate is in doubt, the candidate may not be allowed to appear for the entrance test.

Entry and exit at the CAET exam centre: Candidates will not be allowed into the centre once the examination starts. Candidates will not be allowed to leave the examination centre before the end of the examination. In case of a medical emergency, students can be allowed after filling out the designated form.

CAET 2025 Answer Key

Once the exam is over, CAET 2025 answer key, response sheets of the candidates (copy of the OMR sheet) and challenge facility are made available on the official website. Candidates can challenge the provisional CAET answer key and based on the challenges received, if any changes are required, the provisional keys are revised.

The final CAET answer key is then uploaded on the official website and based on it the CAET scores are calculated for CAET result 2025.

CAET 2025 Result

Provisional CAET scores are announced after the Session 1 examination for allocation of seats to top performers (20% seats) and provisional allocation to the next level performers (30% seats). Final CAET scores and final merit lists are announced after Session 2 examinations for the final allocation of seats and branches. 

CAET 2025 Qualification Criteria

A candidate is declared qualified in CAET exam if they meet the following criteria:

1) Their marks in each subject part is higher than or equal to:

  • the mean plus standard deviation of positive scores in the respective subject part in the respective session OR
  • 10% (8 marks out of 80),

whichever is lower,

AND

2) His/her aggregate marks in all three subject parts put together is higher than or equal to:

  • the mean plus standard deviation of positive scores in aggregate marks in the respective session OR
  • 35% (84 marks out of 240),

whichever is lower.

These criteria may be lowered in case of necessity after the examination while deciding on final scores.

Provisional Total CAET Score (PCAET Score): The total marks obtained by each candidate are transformed into a score ranging from 35 to about 100. This score is called the provisional CAET Score (PCAET). It is the normalised score that represents the relative performance of all those who qualified in session 1 of CAET 2025. The calculation procedure for the provisional CAET (PCAET) score is described below.

Final CAET Score (FCAET Score): After all sessions of CAET 2025 are completed, the marks of each candidate are normalised based on the mean of aggregate marks 𝜇 𝑔 and standard deviation 𝜎 𝑔 of positive aggregate marks of all candidates appearing in all sessions of CAET 2025, as follows:

CAET 2025 Rank List

A separate final CAET rank list is prepared based on the final CAET scores, for the following two categories of nationalities of candidates:

  1. UAE Nationals
  2. Indian Expatriates & International Candidates.

The final merit list of candidates in each category (UAE nationals; International candidates / Indian expatriates) is prepared based on the FCAET scores of the candidates, and seat allocation and allocation of branches is done based on the final merit lists.

Tie-breaking for CAET rank list: If two candidates have the same FCAET score up to 2 decimal digits, the following tie-break rules will be used:

  1. If two candidates have the same FCAET score up to 2 decimal digits, the candidate with higher subject marks in Mathematics is assigned a higher rank.
  2. If the above step (a) fails to break the tie and the two candidates also have equal marks in mathematics, the candidate with higher subject marks in physics is assigned a higher rank.
  3. If the above step (b) also fails to break the tie, the two candidates are assigned the same rank.

Non-Indian nationals are exempt from appearing for JEE Main to be eligible for JEE Advanced.
