The institute is planning to offer courses ranging from design to machine learning and data science for future academic sessions. The Bachelor of Design (BDes) course will be offered from the next academic session.
In order to bridge the academia-industry gap, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi this year launched several new courses across various specialisations such as master’s degree in electric mobility, bachelor’s in energy engineering and master’s programme in public policy. Now, the institute is planning to offer courses ranging from design to machine learning and data science for future academic sessions. The Bachelor of Design (BDes) course will be offered from the next academic session.
BDes course from 2022-23
While talking to Shiksha, IIT Delhi Director Professor V Ramgopal Rao said, “IIT Delhi has been running a Master of Design (MDes) programme since 1994. The BDes programme will be offered by the institute’s Department of Design. Fee will same as any BTech programme at IIT Delhi and admissions will be through Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination (UCEED). The four-year programme will have 20 seats to start with and later we can go up to 40 students.”
The last date to fill the UCEED application form 2022 with regular fee has been extended from October 10 to October 17, 2021. The last date to fill the UCEED application form with late fee is now October 22, 2021. The UCEED application fee is neither transferable nor refundable. UCEED 2022 exam will be held on January 23.
BTech in design from 2025
Prof Rao said, “Two years down the line, we are also starting BTech in design that will start in 2025. If we are able to recruit faculty, we might start it even earlier. But admissions to BTech in design will be through JEE Advanced and some local test will be conducted to check creative abilities of students.”
MTech in MINDS for both students, industry professionals
The IIT Delhi Director said, “Our senators have just approved MTech in MINDS (Machine Intelligence and Data Science) and the course will be offered from next year. The entry will be through GATE and even industries can also sponsor the course for their employees.”
