1. Prioritise Revision Based on Weightage

In the final stretch, your goal should be to maximise your score. The GATE 2025 syllabus is vast, but not all topics have the same weight. Focus on high-weightage subjects first -

For example -

  • For Mechanical Engineering, focus on topics such as thermodynamics, strength of materials, and fluid mechanics.
  • For Computer Science, algorithms, data structure, programming, etc. often dominate.
  • For Electrical and Civil Engineering, look for the topics that have historically carried the most marks.

Spend 60 to 70% of your time revising these areas while allotting the remaining time to moderate and low-weightage topics.

Q:   Who is eligible for NIT Trichy MBA?

A:

Q:   Can I join IISc without JEE Main?

A:

The answer to this question depends on the course you are applying at IISC.

For Bachelor of Technology (BTech) programme, aspirants are offered admission based on JEE Main score. Hoewever, for BSc programme admission,  JEE is not compulsory. Candidates with a valid score in IISER Aptitude Test can also get admission. For other courses such as MTech, MSc and PhD, JEE Main is not required for admission at Indian Institute of Science (IISC).

Q:   Can I change the GATE 2025 exam centre?

A:

Yes, you can change the GATE exam city at the time of GATE 2025 application form correction facility. The GATE application form correction window will be activated on November 6, 2024. For more information, candidates can read here - https://www.shiksha.com/engineering/gate-exam-centre

2. Consolidate Concepts with Short Notes

Short notes are your best friend during the last month of GATE preparation. If you’ve created notes already, it’s great. If not, now is the time to start, and here’s how to use them.

  • Focus on the key formulas, important derivations, terms, definitions, and conceptual highlights.
  • Categorise your notes with GATE 2025 subjects, with a quick index to access them instantly.
  • Use them daily to revise them and memorise the critical points.

For example, ensure you have concise notes for Mohr’s Circle, Heat Transfer principles, and Bernoulli’s equations for GATE Mechanical Engineering (ME).

3. Take Mock Tests Regularly

GATE mock tests are the game-changer in the final month of GATE 2025 preparation. They help you prepare for the actual exam environment and help you identify weak areas.

  • Start with full-length tests - Simulate the actual exam conditions by setting a timer, avoiding distractions, and sitting through the entire test in one go.
  • Analyse your performance - Look beyond the score. Identify your mistakes and ensure that they don’t happen again.
  • Track progress - Aim to improve accuracy and enhance time management skills to reduce silly errors with each test.

Taking mock tests consistently can help you handle the pressure on the GATE exam day.

4. Practice Previous Year’s Question Papers

The importance of solving GATE's previous year’s question paper cannot be overstated. Solving them religiously will help you -

  • Understand the GATE exam pattern.
  • Familiarise with the commonly asked questions and related topics.
  • Improve time management and accuracy.

Solve at least the last 10 years' papers. Treat them as real exams, and compare your solutions with the official answer key to identify gaps.

Q:   How do I check my GATE exam centre?

A:

Candidates can check the GATE examination centres from the GATE official website- gate2025.iitr.ac.in. The exam centres for GATE 2025 are available for eight zones. For more information, read here - https://www.shiksha.com/engineering/gate-exam-centre

Q:   Can I do M.Tech in IIT Madras without GATE?

A:

MTech admission at IIT Madras is primarily based on GATE scores, followed by COAP counselling. However, as per the basic eligibility criteria mentioned on the official website of IIT Madras, getting admission at the institute without qualifying for the GATE entrance exam is possible. For this, candidates must have a BTech degree from one of the IITs, with a minimum CGPA of 8.0 (on a scale of 10). Such candidates can directly apply for MTech admission through the official IIT Madras website. These applications are then reviewed by the respective departments before taking the final admission decision.

Q:   Is MCA course duration at NIT Trichy of 2 years or 3 years?

A:

Usually, the duration of post graduation courses is 2 years. At NIT Trichy, the duration of a PG-level MCA course is of three years. This course is offered in a full-time mode via the Department of Computer Applications at the institute. Admission to this course is directly based on NIMCET entrance exam. Candidates who get selected via NIMCET get to study this three-year programme of MCA at NIT Trichy. The curriculum of this course surrounds the learing of all theoretical aspects and practical training. Click here to check out the complete MCA course details for admission to NIT Trichy.

5. Revise, Don’t Learn New Topics

One of the students' biggest mistakes in the last month is trying to cover new topics. While it’s tempting, this strategy often backfires. Instead -

  • Focus on topics that you are already familiar with. Strengthen your strong areas.
  • If you must tackle a new topic, limit it to basic concepts and frequently asked questions.
  • Prioritise quality over quantity—depth of knowledge in a few areas is better than superficial understanding of many.

6. Master Formula Retention

GATE is a formula-heavy examination. A strong grasp of formulas can significantly boost your confidence and accuracy.

  • Dedicate time every day to revising formulas.
  • Use flashcards or formula sheets to quiz yourself.
  • For Mechanical Engineering aspirants, ensure you’re thorough with Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, and Strength of Materials equations.

Tip: Write formulas repeatedly. This will not only improve retention but also reduce errors during the exam.

7. Optimise Time Management

With just a month to go, every second counts. Create a detailed study schedule that includes:

  • Daily goals - Focus on one primary subject and one minor topic daily.
  • Frequent breaks - Use the Pomodoro technique—study for 50 minutes and take a 10-minute break.
  • Mock test slots - Reserve specific days for full-length tests to simulate exam conditions.

8. Don’t Ignore General Aptitude

GATE 2025 General Aptitude (GA) is a scoring section often overlooked. Spend 15–20 minutes daily practicing problems from:

  • Verbal Ability - Focus on comprehension, grammar, and vocabulary.
  • Quantitative Ability - Practice basic arithmetic, percentages, and logical reasoning.

These questions are relatively simple, and scoring well here can give you an edge.

9. Stay Physically and Mentally Fit

Your physical and mental well-being plays a significant role in your performance. In my years mentoring students, I’ve seen stress derail even the most prepared candidates. Avoid this by:

  • Getting 6–8 hours of sleep daily to keep your mind sharp.
  • Exercising regularly to relieve stress and improve focus.
  • Practicing meditation or mindfulness techniques to stay calm and composed.

10. Visualise Success

In the final month, a positive mindset can make all the difference. Visualise yourself in the exam hall, confidently solving questions and performing your best. Self-doubt is your biggest enemy—replace it with self-belief.

GATE 2025 Final Week Strategy

In the last week before the GATE 2025 exam -

  • Avoid mock tests to prevent burnout.
  • Revise formula sheets and short notes extensively.
  • Review your past mistakes in mock tests and ensure you don’t repeat them.
  • Relax the day before the exam. A fresh mind is more valuable than cramming.

The GATE exam is not about how much you know but how well you can apply your knowledge under pressure. With one month to go, focus on revising strategically, practising rigorously, and maintaining a calm, positive outlook. Remember, you’ve already done the hard work. Trust your preparation, stick to your plan, and give it your best shot. Success is just around the corner!
