Although admission to BE/ BTech programme at TIET is conducted through JEE Main.  Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology accepts JEE Main scores as well as merit for admisison to the BE/ BTech courses. Based on the JEE Main score and Class 12 scores, candidates are then called for the TIET Counselling process. Admissions for vacant seats (if any) in subsequent rounds of counselling is done based on All India rank (AIR) of JEE Main 2023 as a tie breaker. During the counselling, Branch allocation is as per the Category, followed by JEEMain/ Class 10 + Class 12 PCM wise, seat availability, merit, and branch preference order filled in
the application form.

Yes, a two-year postgraduate MCA degree course is available at Thapar University. Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (Deemed-to-be University) offers an MCA programme for two years. The PG-level course is offered in a full-time mode. Admission to the TU is completely based on merit i.e., evaluated based on candidates' academic performance and scores in their graduation. The minimum eligibility criteria required by the university for MBA admission is candidates must secure at least 60% aggregate (55% for SC/ST) in aggregate. It is necessary that each course aspirant meet the course-specific eligibility criteria. Hence, the applicant must have passed Class 12 with an aggregate of 60% (55% for SC/ST students) Or a three-year Diploma in the relevant stream. Moreover, the university may relax requirements for candidates with extraordinary achievements in the areas of sports, Music, Dance and Painting, Social Work, Software Development, etc. with passing marks in Class 12. Both the colleges are equally good, but I will vote for Thapar University, Patiala because of the standard which the University has maintained since its establishment. I will try to distinguish between both colleges with the help of certain parameters:

• ADMISSION PROCESS: Thapar University admits its students on the basis of JEE main marks. Usually cutoff goes higher for Computer engineering (around 180). While SRM University conducts its own examination called SRMJEE.
• CAMPUS: SRM University has a very good and beautiful campus. Student intake is higher at SRM University. 
• Thaper don't have any management quota seat whereas SRM had few seats reserved for the management quota. The fee is almost similar in both colleges. And location-wise Chennai has the upper hand over Patiala.

Thapar University offers a four-year full-time BE courses covering several specialisations, including Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering, among others. TIET BE admission is based on JEE Main scores, followed by an online counselling process. TIET BE cutoff 2023 has been released. As per Thapar University JEE Main Round 1 cutoff 2023, candidates securing a rank betweeb 70000 and 85000 are eligible to get a seat a at TIET for BE in Electrical and Computer Engineering programme.
