Frequently Asked Questions

Q:   Can I get admission to JNU without CUET?

A:

To get admission at Jawaharlal Nehru University, candidates must visit the official website of the University (jnu.ac.in) or NTA for course-wise admission criteria. JNU admission to most of the UG, PG and Diploma courses are based on candidates' performance in the CUET-UG & CUET-PG scores. For admission to JNU BA (Hons.) in Foreign Languages, BSc.-MSc Integrated programme in Ayurveda Biology and Certificate of Proficiency courses, JNU accepts CUET-UG. For JNU PG courses including MTech, MPH, MA, MSc, MCA and PG Diploma in Big Data, admission is based on CUET-PG scores. For JNU MBA admission 2025, CUET-PG is not valid and is dependent on CAT scores.

Q:   Is JNU better than DU?

A:

As per the NIRF 2024 rankings, JNU is ranked 2nd, while DU is ranked 6th under 'University' category. This clearly suggests that JNU is a better university overall. However, these rankings are based on a variety of factors. Furthermore, the best university for a student will depend on the individual needs and preferences. Here is the comparison of JNU and DU based on some key factors:

  • Academics: JNU is known for its strong academics and research focus. It has a number of world-renowned faculty members, and its students have gone on to achieve great things in their careers. DU is also a good university academically, but it is not as research-intensive as JNU.
  • Campus Life: JNU has a vibrant campus life with a strong student union. There are many student organizations and activities, and the university has a reputation for being a hotbed of political activism. DU also has a good campus life, but it is not as political as JNU.
  • Location: JNU is located in South Delhi, while DU is spread out across the city. This means that JNU students have a more central location, while DU students have more options when it comes to choosing a college or hostel.
  • Fees: The fees at JNU are lower than the fees at DU. This is because JNU is a central university, while DU is a state university.

Q:   Is M.Sc. at JNU a good choice?

A:
{Source: M.Sc. students & alumni}

Here's what current students and alumni have to say:

Pros:

* Excellent Faculty: Teachers are highly qualified, knowledgeable, and supportive. They provide great lessons, and practical classes are helpful.
* Good Infrastructure: The university has a great campus with modern facilities, including a state-of-the-art library, laboratories, and hostel amenities.
* Placements: While the placement rate may vary across departments, some students reported getting internships and even job offers from reputed companies like D.E. Shaw, Deloitte USI, and McKinsey & Company.
* Scholarships: The university offers scholarships to deserving students.
* Campus Life: Students enjoy a lively campus culture with regular events, festivals, and sports competitions.

Cons:

* Limited Placements: Not all students get placed immediately after completing their degree, although some do secure internships.
* Old Curriculum: Some students felt that the course curriculum could be updated to include more industrial exposure.
* Hostel Conditions: Although the hostel facilities are generally good, some students mentioned that they needed improvement.
* Facilities for Research Students: Limited research opportunities and resources might affect students' ability to pursue higher degrees.

Overall Assessment: Based on the feedback from students and alumni, pursuing an M.Sc. at JNU seems like a good choice for those interested in academics, research, and networking. While the placement record may not be stellar, the university's strong reputation, excellent faculty, and vibrant campus atmosphere make it an attractive option. However, potential students should weigh these pros against the cons and consider whether JNU aligns with their individual goals and expectations.

One of the best universities of India, really appreciable.
Placements: There is no definite placement cell, but companies do visit here to hire freshers. Even if you don't get a job through campus placement, you will get a job easily through off-campus placement. Wherever you go, you will obviously find some of our alumni.
Infrastructure: When it comes to infrastructure, yes, you will not get buildings and classrooms like those in high-feel private colleges, but the whole campus is covered with Wi-Fi. The food quality depends upon the hostel and mess secretary, but overall food quality is very good.
Faculty: When it comes to faculty members, you don't need to worry. You will be taught by some of the best faculty members in India. They are highly qualified and dedicated to teaching you by any means. The course curriculum is a little old but good. JNU doesn't prepare you for industries, but they shape you into a better version. You need to maintain a CGPA of 4 out of 9 to pass.

Jawahar Lal Nehru University.
Placements: There is no placement cell in college, but companies are visiting and are giving high packages. Many students last year received the package of 15 LPA from Accenture in interpretation. The languages that are good for placement are German, Japanese, and Korean. Don't use this language if you are not interested and came here only to enjoy college life.
Infrastructure: The curriculum of the course is very rigorous, and there are very good hostel and mess facilities. The rooms are not that good, but the mess facilities here are satisfying. There are badminton courts behind the hostel, and hostel nights are organised here. There is a special dinner at the end of the month..
Faculty: The teachers are very helpful, and you will get very good exposure here from the university. The curriculum is very strict; there will be 4 exams in every semester, 3 sessions, and 1 end semester. And you have to score 4 CGPA at the end of the year if you want to stay in university.
Other: There are DJ nights, and events are happening every now and then.

Review of Jawaharlal Nehru University.
Placements: The placement cell of Jawaharlal Nehru University is not good enough. Students are not getting a chance to campus selection since covid-19. Less than 30% of students got placed in our university. You can apply to MNCs like Amazon, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, Google, etc.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of Jawaharlal Nehru University is good. All classrooms, libraries, and labs have Wi-Fi. Our university provides a hostel with good facilities. The quality of food and water is also good enough. Many badminton courts, basketball courts, and a stadium are available at our university. A health center is also available at our university
Faculty: There are around 5-6 professors in the center for Japanese studies. They are a little bit helpful and supportive. They are well-educated and experienced. This course curriculum is relevant. There are three sessional tests and the final semester exam. You have to pass at least two sessional tests to appear for the final semester exam. The pass percentage is more than a 4 CGPA.
Other: I opted for this university because I want to learn a foreign language and work as an interpreter in an MNC, so I started exploring the best college for foreign languages and got to know about Jawaharlal Nehru University. I can improve my communication skills and all by this course. You will get to know about foreign cultures and traditions by participating in fests, events, and other curricular activities.

Hostel facilities are bad .
Placements: We have jnu placement cell but not for the foreign language courses like japanese, chinese, korean, german, arabic, persian, russian, spanish french, pashto. After completing our graduation we can apply for different companies having an additional degree of specified language like in japanese JLPT exam in chinese HSK.
Infrastructure: There are average facility of hostel infrastructure but currently being a student of JNU mess facilities are good, food is hygienic and for medical treatment there is a JNU HEALTH CENTRE various disease for specialised doctors facilities of OPD. Wi-Fi availability is 24/7.
Faculty: Teaches are very helpful and well qualified for different courses. But studies are only limited to syllabus. Not for the various exams languages, JLPT exams are tough we all have to study by ourselves to qualify for the exam. Syllabus only helps out in your vocab reading grammar not for the passage type questions which came in the exam.

Absolutely satisfied with the college, and it has really good infrastructure and facilities.
Placements: There is a handy placement cell in the college. The placement rate is about 70% so far. The highest package offered by a Japanese company was 9 LPA, and the average package goes around 5 to 6 LPA. The top recruiting companies are Amazon and Cognizant.
Infrastructure: The campus infrastructure and facilities are very good. Wi-Fi facility is available for students throughout the campus. Classrooms are well maintained. The library is operated 24*7 and is air-conditioned. The food quality is very good, with different varieties throughout the week.
Faculty: The faculty of this course are very competent. There is a top brass of faculty available, and they are always ready to help you and make your journey smooth. The course curriculum is also rigorous and relevant, which makes students industry-ready very efficiently.
Other: I chose this course because it has a good scope in the corporate world and also my curiosity to learn the Japanese language. The campus crowd over there is intellectuals and rich. The are a good number of scholarships available, like MCM etc. People also get scholarships in their respective courses and go to the foreign land for a year or two.

The options will vary on the percentage she will secure in class 12th. So, let her class 12th result be out, and then accordingly decide which area interests her more and get her admitted in the same.
