Frequently Asked Questions

Q:   How much does BA cost in Delhi University?

A:

The total tuition fee for BA and BA (Hons) courses offered by the University of Delhi ranges between INR 540 and INR 1.5 lakh depending on the college a student is seeking or taking admission to. In addition to the affiliated college, BA course fee is also dependent on the specialisation selected by the student for the same. This information is sourced from official website/ sanctioning body and is subject to change. Hence, is indicative.

In reality, the total fee that a student is required to pay is much higher than 540 Indian Rupees. This is because there are other fee components which are charged by DU colleges which include application fee, development charges, exam fee and other components.

The below table mentions the BA Hons/ BA fee for the top 5 popular DU colleges:

More details on the same must be obtained by the students from the admission office of the DU affiliated college a student is interested to get into.

Q:   Is there entrance exam for BA (honours) in DU?

A:

At the undergraduate level, the University of Delhi offers BA (Hons) across 29 specialisations out of which 23 offered merit-based admission and the remaining offered entrance-based (DUET) admission to the students till 2021. Additionally, the University also offers BA Prog. course across multiple subject combinations (across different colleges) in which admission is completely based on merit scores obtained by the students in Class 12. However, starting 2022, DU admission to all the UG courses will get conducted via CUET UG.

Q:   If I have to apply for BA (Hons) in Economics in DU. What is the procedure to pursue the same?

A:

The application process of Delhi University affiliated colleges for its BA and BA (Hons) courses start with the registration process of CUET. The first step is to register for the CUET by visiting the official website of the exam. Find a step-by-step guide to fill out the CUET 2023 application form in the following section:

Step 1: Visit the official website of CUET and click on the "New Registration" tab. (https://cuet.samarth.ac.in/)

Step 2: Fill in all the required details such as personal and contact details and generate a password to complete the registration process.

Step 3: After completing the registration, move ahead to fill out the CUET application form by entering all the details in the given slots then click on “Save & Proceed”.

Step 4: Upload all the scanned documents including photograph and signature.

Step 5: Select any three courses and universities and after previewing the application form, click on “Submit & Make Payment” to proceed.

Step 6: Complete the application process by paying an application amount through online mode.

Those who qualify the exam are required to register on the DU CSAS portal (admission.uod.ac.in) for the final admission and college preference filling process. Based on the score in CUET UG, students receive admission calls in various rounds.

Q:   Does DU conduct entrance exam for BA (hons) in political science?

A:

DU does not conduct any entrance exam for admission to BA or BA (Hons) courses. However, it accepts the scores obtained by the students in the CUET UG exam for UG admission at any affiliated college. Having said that, students can get admission to Delhi University even if they didn't apply for CUET. While the chances of getting admission will be much lower, here are some of the ways a student can get admission to Delhi University without CUET:

  1. Take a chance on the spot admission: You can try your luck at the spot admission process, which is conducted by Delhi University after the CUET results are announced. However, the number of seats available under the spot admission process is very limited, so your chances of getting admission are slim.
  2. Apply for admission through the Delhi University School of Open Learning (SOL): The Delhi University School of Open Learning (SOL) offers a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate courses that do not require CUET scores. However, the admission process for SOL is more competitive than the regular admission process.

    Review of Delhi University.
Placements: Top recruiting companies are Amazon and American Express. Our college conducts classes for placements.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi is available in our college. We have a departmental library in which many books are available in foreign languages. Only a few seats are available in the hostel for UG students. Our college provides hostel facilities. The hostel provides north Indian food items.
Faculty: Our teachers are good, helpful, and well-qualified. They are always available for the growth and progress of our language. Exams are conducted regularly. We have internal assessments. Almost 65% of attendance is mandatory to write exams. Results are not declared on time.

Best faculty to learn French language from Delhi University.
Placements: The campus is mainly famous because of its placement cell only. One of the renowned company which always visits our campus, is Amazon. Nearly 40% of the students gets the placement. There is same salary package for students, that is around 5 Lacs per annum.
Infrastructure: Facilities like, classrooms, Wi-Fi, library are available. The department has the biggest library in Delhi University. Classrooms are well furnished. The rooms are bright. Only the washrooms should be kept more cleaner. The department is not too big to conduct fest, but there are many small programs like francophonie day.
Faculty: The teachers are well qualified, helpful and knowledgeable. Faculty members have done their M.A. or Ph.D. from France or Delhi University only. Term exams are quite easy and usually are held after 5 months. This course is budget friendly. Scholarships facilitates are not provided.
Other: I chose this course, because I love French language as well as this language has a great importance in the I. T sector especially companies that trade with france. The salary package for freshers is also quite good. The crowd is fine, professor's are helpful, and most important that you make good friends.

Our college provides B.A. hons in French.
Placements: Few of our seniors got placement and few went for higher studies. The highest salary package offered is 8 LPA, the average salary package is 4-5 LPA, and the lowest salary package is 3.5 LPA. Amazon is the top recruiter. Internships are not available. Most of the students went for social work or digital marketing and some students found through Internshala. Financial risk management is the role offered in Amazon and some people go for teaching or a translator.
Infrastructure: Hostels are not available for our department. Wi-Fi doesn't work on the campus. Classrooms are well built and good during summers, it is not that hot. There is a library. We have a canteen which is not that good as there are not good options but good food is available.
Faculty: Teachers are well qualified and knowledgeable, recently there was a shortage in faculty for German students. They help in studies and for future endeavors as well. Learning a foreign language is necessary these days so the course is very much relevant in today's time. Students can learn B1 level in french during the course so it prepares them for upcoming challenges. Semester exams are hard. The pass percentage is 33%. Half of the percentage gets from internals only, so you don't have to worry.
Other: I chose this course as I am a keen learner of languages and have plenty of range to learn like German, Arabic, Sanskrit, Italian, Portuguese, and Hindi. There would be more audio-visual rooms but still, it works. There are no fests, but the student can get entry to all the fests. Connectivity is good as auto-rickshaws are running every day from the metro.

A review by a student of foreign language course from the Delhi University.
Placements: In my department, we have 25-30% of placements. And, I believe it's well and good because it is a language course and it all depends on the fluency. Amazon came to recruit, and from my course, 10 students got selected, and the package is quite well.
Infrastructure: We have a good infrastructure in our department. Wi-Fi gives good speed. We have a very clean library with 1000s of books. It included books of each and every language. Worth reading. It not only has educational but also comics, magazines, etc. And, we have a beautiful garden which is worth seeing, and sitting there and studying is the best part.
Faculty: The faculty are awesome. The professors have a lot of knowledge. Their teaching techniques are very good. The course curriculum is very properly chosen, it covers each and every field of our language. The subjects which we can have jobs in are all included in our curriculum.

Review of Department of Germanic and Romance Studies, University of Delhi.
Placements: Not many companies visit GRS Department for placements. Some major companies which visit here are TCS and Amazon. Amazon is the main recruiter and hires 10-15 students every year from respective languages. I was lucky enough to get placed in Amazon, and the salary package offered here is always attractive.
Infrastructure: Department of GRS is a perfect example of the architectural beauty of Delhi University. Every year flowers grown in spring season makes it one of the most mesmerizing colleges in North Campus. I have been a witness of trees laden with yellow flowers. We don't have any computer rooms, but Delhi University provides free laptops to every student which suffices.
Faculty: There are some of the best linguistics teachers from all over the globe with one vision of making every student excel in respective languages. The course curriculum has not changed from the last 10-15 years, but it hardly affects your study of language. As I am a francophone student, our primary aim was to speak and understand French, which we achieved here.

    Q:   Is DU admission open?

    A:

DU admission for 2025 will open soon. Currently, the applications are open for PhD programme till Dec 10, 2024. Admission in Delhi University is based on CUET-UG and CUET-PG scores. Below are the upcoming events for DU admission:

    • The CUET PG registration process 2025 for admission to PG courses is expected to begin during the last week of Dec 2024, tentatively.
    • The CUET UG registration process 2025 for admission to UG courses will commence tentatively during the last week of Feb 2025. The CUET UG 2025 exam dates will be announced soon.

Q:   Can I take admission to DU with 60% in Class 12?

    A:

DU is considered one of the most competitive universities in India for Commerce, Science and Arts education at the undergraduate level. The university and its affiliated colleges was attracting the cream layer of crowd till the time admission was subject to Class 12 scores. While reserved category candidates still had minor chances of getting into a not-so-popular course of DU with 60% in Class 12, a General category student with 60% had no chance of getting into any good college or course at DU.

However, starting 2022, DU admission process has shifted to CUET-UG based admission process. Those with a valid score in CUET UG exam who have passed their Class 12 are eligible to take admission now. While the chances of getting into a good DU college are still low at this score, the chances of getting a seat have increased now (provided you score extremely well in CUET UG).
