AILET 2025 Eligibility Criteria

The last date to fill out the AILET 2025 application form is November 18, 2024, at nationallawuniversitydelhi.in. Candidates can pay the AILET 2025 application fee by 8:00 AM on November 19, 2025. Through AILET 2025, they can apply for admission to BA LLB (Hons.), LLM and PhD in Law courses offered by the National Law University, Delhi. Only those candidates who meet the AILET 2025 eligibility criteria for their preferred course can fill out the form. If they fail to do so, their candidature for AILET 2025 will be rejected.

Aspirants can find course-wise eligibility details in this article. The eligibility criteria includes qualifying exam details, minimum mark requirements, and category reservation details. 

Q:   How many city preferences can a candidate submit while selecting AILET center?

A:

Candidates can submit maximum 3 preferences for AILET centre. Choosing preference for exam centre is mandatory to submit AILET application. Candidates will get to know about allotment of exact centre once the admit card is released. The NLU Delhi releases admit card online comprising crucial details about exam including name and address of AILET centre. The admit card can be downloaded from the official website after its release. To download AILET admit card, candidates need application ID, password, and Exam Unique Code (EUC).

Q:   Does NLU Delhi accept CLAT score?

A:

National Law University, (NLU) Delhi, included among one of the most prestigious law universities in India. Apart from NLU Delhi, there are 22 National Law Universities (NLUs) in India. NLU Delhi offers law courses i.e. five-year Intergrated BA LLB (Hons.) course at the undergraduate level, One-year LLM course at the postgraduate level, and PhD courses at the doctorate level. For admission to the law courses,  NLU Delhi conducts its own law entrance exam known as the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET), thus making it the only law school in India that does not accept the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT)

Q:   What are the AILET eligibility criteria?

A:

The AILET eligibility criteria based on different parameters are described below:

Educational Qualification:

  • Candidates must have passed the Senior Secondary School Examination (10+2 system) or an equivalent examination from a recognised board.

Minimum Marks:

  • General & OBC: Minimum of 45% marks in your Class 12 exam.
  • SC/ST/PwD: Minimum of 40% marks in your Class 12 exam.

Age Limit:

There is no age limit for appearing in the AILET exam.

Other Criteria:

  • You must be a citizen of India.
  • Specific requirements apply for foreign nationals and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI)/Person of Indian Origin (PIO) candidates. Refer to the official AILET notification for details.

AILET 2025 Eligibility Criteria: Basic Requirements

Since, NLU Delhi does not accept CLAT exam scores, and conducts its own entrance exam, the eligibility criteria for its law courses are different. AILET eligibility criteria 2025 are mandatory not only for filling up the AILET 2025 application form, but also for securing a seat during the counseling process. The exam authority verifies all documents pertaining to the AILET 2025 eligibility criteria for BA LLB, LLM, and PhD in Law courses. 

Candidates applying for undergraduate or postgraduate course, they need to fulfill the common eligibility criteria for the AILET exam as under: 

  • Candidates should have obtained the minimum qualifying marks and certificate as relevant for the courses.
  • If candidates are applying under a reserved category, then they should have a certificate issued by the competent authority stating the same. 
  • If candidates belong to PwD category then a medical certificate issued by a medical authority stating 40 per cent or more disability should be available to be eligible under PwD category.

AILET Eligibility Criteria 2025 for BA LLB course

The eligibility criteria for AILET BA LLB course as mentioned by NLU Delhi is, “Senior Secondary School Examination (10+2 system) or an equivalent examination with 45% marks (40% in case of SC/ST/Persons with Disabilities). Candidates appearing for the 12th standard annual examination in 2024 are eligible to apply.” , this means, 

Q:   What will happen if I do not qualify AILET exam?

A:

To qualify for AILET, you will have to score above or equal to the AILET cut-off according to your category. If you do not qualify for the exam, you can reappear for it next year if you want to study BA LLB (Hons.), BCom LLB (Hons.) or LLM at NLU Delhi. If you want to take the exam again, you can opt for one of the following options: 

  • Take other law entrance exams, such as LSAT India, SLAT or any of the state-level law entrance tests. 
  • Apply for admission to colleges accepting AILET scores
  • You can apply for admission to colleges that accept merit-based admission. The merit-based admission process refers to the process in which colleges consider your marks in the qualifying exam (Class 12 marks for UG courses and graduation marks for PG courses). 

Always remember that you should not apply for admission to a college that has not been recognised by UGC.

Q:   Is there any age limit to apply for the AILET exam?

A:
No, National Law University, Delhi has not prescribed any lower or upper age limit for admissions to its law courses. B.A. LL.B. (Hons) Eligibility Criteria: 10+2 or equivalent examination with minimum 45 percent aggregate marks and 40 percent in case of SC, ST, or PwD. LL. M. Eligibility Criteria: LL.B. Or equivalent degree with minimum 50 percent marks and 45 percent in case of SC, ST, or PwD. Ph.D. Eligibility Criteria: LL. Q:   How many attempts are allowed for AILET?

A:
Candidates can attempt AILET any number of times, in fact unlimited. As there is no age limit restrictions as per the AILET eligibility criteria, and no limits on attempts. NLU Delhi never put any limit on AILET attempts, and candidates can appear for the entrance exam even if they want to gain exam taking experience.

Q:   What is the eligibility for AILET in India?

A:

The candidates applying for AILET should check the eligibility criteria for their selected course as under: B.A. LL.B. (Hons) - The candidates applying for the undergraduate course of NLU Delhi should be passed or appearing in the Class 12 or equivalent examination. They should have obtained at least 45% marks in the qualifying examination. LL. M. - Candidates should have passed or appeared in the final examinations of a five-years or three-years LL.B. Degree. They should have obtained at least 50% marks in aggregate if belonging to the unreserved category and 45% marks if belonging to SC/ST/PWD category. 

  • A candidates must have passed class 12 examination or equivalent examination from a state board/ national board of education - ICSE/ CBSE/ CISCE
  • The candidates must have obtained 45% of total scores in Class 12 examination, if they belong to General or OBC categories
  • Those belonging to SC, ST or PwD categories can claim 5% relaxation in minimum qualifying marks if they submit the relevant documents as a proof. If they have 40% or above scores then they are eligible for AILET 2025.
  • There is no relaxation in minimum marks for candidates belonging to any other categories other than SC, ST, and PwD. 

If the candidates are appearing for their Class 12 examinations, at the time of filling AILET 2025 application form, then they can mention it, and state that result is awaited. Their eligibility will be ascertained at the time of counselling, on showing the documents for qualifying Class 12 exams.

AILET 2025 BA LLB Reservation

NLU Delhi reserves a fixed number of seats for specific categories in the BA LLB programe through the AILET exam. Check out the reservation criteria for AILET 2025 BA LLB course below:

AILET BA LLB Eligibility Criteria 2025 for Exemption

Only candidates belonging to OCI/PIO/Foreign Nationals category are exempted to appear in AILET exam only if they secure 65% marks in Class 12 or equivalent examination. Other than this, no candidate will be exempted from AILET 2025 for admission to any law course offered at the law university. 

AILET 2025 Eligibility Criteria: BCom LLB

The eligibility criteria for BCom LLB course offered through AILET 2025 are mentioned below:

Qualification
  • Candidates should have completed Class (10+2). 
  • Candidates appearing in Class 12 can also apply for AILET 2025 BCom LLB exam. They will need to submit a copy of their final marksheet for AILET 2025 counselling. 
Minimum Marks
  • General/OBC category candidates need a minimum of 45% to apply for AILET 2025. 
  • The minimum qualifying marks for SC/ST and PwD category candidates is 40%. 
Age Limit
  • NLU has not specified age limit to apply for AILET BCom LLB exam. 

AILET Eligibility Criteria 2025 for LLM course

Candidates seeking admission to LLM course at NLU Delhi need to fulfill the following AILET eligibility criteria as given below: 

Candidates who have obtained an “LL.B. or an equivalent law degree with 50% marks (45% in case of SC/ST/ Persons with Disabilities). Candidates appearing for final year LL.B. annual examination in 2024 are also eligible to apply”, this means: 

  • Candidates should have obtained a three-year or five-year LLB degree or equivalent law degree certificate from a recognised university. 
  • They should have secured at least 50% marks in the overall degree examinations
  • Those belonging to SC/ST/PwD category have been granted relaxation of 5% marks i.e. they should have 45% marks in the degree examination.

AILET LLM Eligibility Criteria 2025 for Exemption

Candidates belonging to Foreing Nationals/ OCI/PIO category are exempted from appearing in AILET 2025. However, they need to fulfill academic eligibility criteria for AILET 2025 to secure an LLM seat.

AILET Eligibility Criteria 2025 for PhD course

Those appearing in AILET 2025 for admission to NLU Delhi’s PhD in law course need to fulfill the eligibility criteria as under: 

“LL.M. or an equivalent law degree with 55% marks (50% in case of SC/ST/ Persons with Disabilities)”, this means: 

  • Candidates should have obtained an LLM degree or equivalent degree from a recognised university. 
  • They should have obtained 55% marks in overall examinations of LLM degree to be eligible for AILET 2025 
  • Those belonging to SC/ST/PwD category should have obtained 50% marks in the qualifying degree

AILET PhD Eligibility Criteria 2025 for Exemption

Foreign National candidates are exempted to appear in AILET 2025 exam, and can secure admission directly.

AILET LLM in Intellectual Property/Joint Masters Eligibility Criteria 2025

To apply for AILET 2025 LLM in IP/Joint Masters, candidates must meet the program's eligibility criteria, which are as follows:

  • Candidates must have completed a 3-year LLB or 5-year LLB from a recognised college or university.
  • General category candidates must have a minimum of 50% marks in their 3-year or 5-year LLB to be eligible for filling out the AILET 2025 registration form for admission to the LLM in IP/Joint Masters programme.
  • For SC/ST and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) category candidates, the minimum required marks to register for the course is 45%.
  • Candidates in the final year of their LLB programme are also eligible to apply for AILET 2025 LLM in IP/Joint Masters, provided they submit their final LLB marksheet during the counselling process.
