AILET however provides some key differences to study techniques adopted for CLAT. For one, the number of colleges, and consequently the seats on offer is miniscule. There is only a single NLU - the one in New Delhi - that enrols students via the AILET. The weightage of the component parts and the time duration are also different. AILET also differs in the sense that it is the first major law entrance exam in any season. One area where the two exams have now converged is in the application of negative marks. While earlier AILET did not have negative scoring, now in this regard, it is one the same page as CLAT.
Explore colleges based on AILET
Let us tackle each of the five areas within AILET individually:
AILET 2024 General Knowledge (GK)
Like LA, GK too has a weightage of 35 marks. The trend on division of questions between Static GK and Current Affairs (CA) mirrors the same in the other law entrance tests. The focus is higher on CA, yet one can’t totally leave out the static part. So, students must go through History, Geography, Economy and General Science from any national level publication such as Arihant, Pearson or Universal. Polity and Miscellaneous will need greater degree of study due to their relevance in Legal and Current Affairs respectively. Although the time duration of twelve months prior to the exam are considered, most of the questions are asked from the October to March duration. One needs to thoroughly go through newspapers such as The Hindu, especially its Editorial and National pages. Plus, online portals such as GK Today, TCY and Cloud Affairs are of much help.
Q: Is AILET easy or tough?
Candidates seeking admission into prominent law colleges in India are well aware of the fact that they have to appear and qualify the entrance exams accepted by the colleges. In India, the National Law Universities (NLUs) are among the top-tiered law colleges to study law and, at present, the total number of NLUs in India is 24. Admission to NLU Delhi is through the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET). If you compare AILET to CLAT, the AILET Exam is much tougher then the latter.
Q: How would I know my AILET exam centre?
Candidates will know their allotted AILET exam centre only from the admit card. There is no way to know the test centre before the release of the AILET admit card. The examination authority allots a test centre to aspirants in the city of their first preference as mentioned in the city. So, candidates can atleast be assured that they will get a test centre in the city they had chosen as first preference in the AILET application form. However, the venue will be mentioned only on the candidate’s admit card. So as soon as the AILET admit card is released, candidates must check the test city and test centre details. In order to avoid any confusion, they must visit the centre at least once before the exam day.
Q: How to crack AILET 2024?
AILET 2025 English Language (EL)
For many students, this becomes the easiest segment to approach. Unlike say GK which requires continuous study, or Legal which is a new concept, English is something students are constantly in touch with. While a good reading habit helps, regular practice is needed to hone the skills. For grammar, editions of Wren & Martin and Geraldine Woods are considered the best. Reading Comprehensions (RCs) often act as the time killers. So, these need to be treaded with much caution. Regular practice from across the topics will ensure, that the least amount of time is needed. The most popular topics for RCs are from philosophy, history, wildlife, art, literature, business and economy. Thorough reading of the passage is needed, as questions are mostly inference based.
AILET 2025 Logical Reasoning (LR)
Reasoning is actually a combination of both verbal logic, as well as analytical reasoning. So, one part is full of numbers and data, while the other is made of words and puzzles. Reasoning needs ample practice. Books by MK Pandey and RS Aggarwal will suffice. For Data Interpretation (DI) questions, the trick lies in forming the table. Once this is done, the rest of the questions flow automatically.
Beyond these individual areas, one needs a holistic strategy to crack the exam at large. GK is one area for instance that requires regular study. Reading newspapers has got to now form part of the daily routine. This reading must not be merely passive, but the appearing candidate has to prepare his/ her own notes to go with. Adequate time has to also go towards understanding the complex legal topics. The other three areas will need to be given their own time as well. Of course, each student will have to tailor one’s own study time depending on the weaknesses and strengths of the individual.
Q: What is a good AILET 2025 score?
A good score for AILET as per last year's cut off marks for each category are as under:
General - 93.25 marks
Scheduled Caste - 59.75 marks
Scheduled Tribe - 58.5 marks
Persons with Disabilities - 64 marks
Kashmir Migrant - 35.25 marks
Residents of Jammu and Kashmir - 54.25 marks.
Q: What is the difficulty level of AILET Exam?
The difficulty level of AILET exam can be considered moderate to difficult. The exam is designed to test the candidates' knowledge and understanding of various subjects of law and general knowledge. The level of difficulty may vary from year to year, and it largely depends on the preparation and understanding of the candidates. However, candidates who are well-prepared, have a strong understanding of the subjects, and have practiced enough questions are likely to find the exam easier to crack. To prepare for the exam, candidates should focus on understanding the concepts and fundamentals of each subject, solving practice questions and previous year papers, and managing their time effectively during the exam. It is also important to stay calm and composed during the exam and avoid getting stuck on difficult questions, as it may affect your overall performance.
Q: Is 90 a good score in AILET?
Based on the exam analysis and previous years' cutoff marks, 90 marks can be considered a good score in AILET. However, the cutoff marks vary every year, and it depends on various factors such as the difficulty level of the exam, the number of test-takers, and the exam pattern.
According to the exam analysis, the cutoff marks for AILET 2023 ranged between 80-90 marks. So, if you have scored 90 marks, you are likely to be in the safe zone. However, it's important to note that the final cutoff marks will be determined after the examination process is over, and it will be based on various factors such as the number of correct answers, the difficulty level of the exam, and the number of test-takers.
It's always a good idea to check the official website of AILET or the exam conducting authority for the final cutoff marks and to know if you have qualified the exam.
Q: Is AILET an important exam to take for law school admissions?
Q: Which exam is more difficult - CLAT or AILET?
There is also an art involved in the test- taking. As the AILET remains a pen- and- paper test, adequate time has to be devoted to practising such mock tests. There is also a lot of deft skill involved in filling up of the OMR sheets. The more the practice the better. Inexperienced hands often align the OMR sheet wrongly with the unintentional option number. Students also need to prepare for scenarios on which section to start with, which to end, and the general order. There is no one magic formula in this, as it differs from one student to another.
GK obviously requires the least amount of time due to the fact that, students either know or do not. There is no middle ground here. Whatever extra time a student gets, needs to be given to legal, as this is the make- or- break section. RCs in English and the Table- based DI questions are usually lengthier. So, students must divide their time adroitly, to make sure they aren’t spending too much time on one topic alone. The time of the test also matters. The AILET exam typically takes place between 10:00 am and 11:30 am. Students must prepare at this time period especially.
Mock papers need to be given during this time slot. This is to acquaint the body along the clock. Some students have a habit of taking an afternoon nap. So, this timing could affect them psychologically, that needs rectification. AILET aspirants must seek continual progress rather than a single straight shot solution. One may start with topic tests, rather than full- length ones. Finally, students must not fret too much about the limited number of seats. If one is good enough, one will make it irrespective of the seats or cut-offs.
