CLAT Counselling 2025
CLAT 2025 counselling process is completely online including, registration, publishing of the merit list, and then seat allotment as per the preferences marked by candidates. Candidates can accept or upgrade or exit from their allotted seat in any round of counselling. Once their choice of seat is allotted then they can complete their admission by paying the counselling and admission fee as required.
CLAT Counselling Registration 2025
Q: How much is CLAT 2025 counselling fee?
The counselling fee for CLAT 2025 is INR 30,000 for general/OBC category, and INR 20,000, for SC/ST/OBC/BC/EWS/PWD categories. The CLAT counselling fee can only be paid in online mode on the official website of the law entrance exam. The counselling fee candidate need to pay as a token amount against their allotted seat to secure it. After this, candidates will be required to pay the remaining fee against their course, which is the tuition fee+ non-refundable charges+ refundable charges and more. In case, candidates choose to withdraw / exit from their allotted after they freeze/ float, and have paid the counselling fee, then they will get a refund of their amount after deduction of INR 5,000 from it. However, full amount will be refunded only in case when the candidate did not freeze/ float their allotted seat.
Q: What are Freeze, Float and Exit options in CLAT 2025 counselling?
During CLAT counselling, candidates will be provided the option to choose from three options; i.e. freeze, float and exit. Candidates can understand all options below:
Freeze Option: In case a candidate is happy with the seat alloted to him/her then they can freeze it. With this they won't be allowed to appear in the further rounds of counselling. If a candidate freezes the seat, it means that the candidate is confirming their seat at the allotted National Law University (NLU).
Float Option: If a candidate is not happy with the seat allotted to them and wants to pariticpate in further rounds of counselling they can select the float option. This option mean that candidate is accepting the seat allotted to them but is willing to pariticpate in further rouns of counselling for a better college. Candidate must note that in case they choose the float option and is allotted a seat in the next round then the seat allotted in the previous round will be forfeited.
Exit Option: During the counselling process, if a candidate feels that they don't want to pariticipate further, then they may choose an option to exit. If they choose this option, it means that they are withdrawing from the counselling process and they will not be considered for further round of counselling.

How to Register for CLAT 2025 Counselling?
Candidates invited for the counselling and seat allotment process will have to register in online mode by following the steps mentioned below:
Step 1: Login to the registered accounts
Firstly, candidates have to login to their registered accounts by following the below steps:
- Go to the official website of CLAT 2025- consortiumofnlus.ac.in/
- Enter mobile number and password in the space provided on the Home page
- Click on Login
- Click on the counselling registration link
Step 2: Update NLU preferences
Next, candidates have to update their preferences for minimum five National Law Universities (NLUs). There are a total 24 NLUs in India that offer five-year integrated LLB courses to students basis their CLAT score. On the other hand, 20 NLUs in India offer LLM courses to students basis their CLAT score.
Candidates will then have to update their preferences only after gaining sufficient knowledge about the NLUs, their courses, fees, seats and more.Candidates will be considered for admission only in the NLUs selected by them. They will not be considered for admission in any other NLU.
Step 3: Pay CLAT counselling fee
Lastly, candidates have to pay the CLAT counselling fee of INR 50,000 in online mode via credit card/debit card/internet banking. A confirmation email will be sent to the registered email address and phone number of candidates once the fee was successfully paid.
It must be noted that candidates have to pay the counselling fee at this stage. Any candidate failing to pay the counselling fee will not be considered for admission. However, the counselling fee for CLAT 2025 will be adjusted with the course fee once a seat is allotted to a candidate. It may also be noted that mere counselling registration does not guarantee admission. The registration process is followed by CLAT seat allotment process in which candidates will be allotted seats based on merit and their NLU preferences.

CLAT Seat Allotment List 2025 will be released in 5 rounds. All those candidates whose names will appear in the first, second and third lists will be given an option to freeze their seats or opt for a choice upgrade.

Candidates can follow the steps mentioned below to check the CLAT seat allotment result:

Note: There are 3, 213 seats for UG courses, and 1,217 seats for PG courses. The candidates who qualified CLAT 2025 will be shortlisted for admission rounds after they complete counseling registration and eligibility-related documentation.
What after CLAT 2025 Seat Allotment Result - Counselling Process
All candidates who will be allotted a seat in any round of counselling are advised to follow the below steps:
Step 1: Seat Acceptance/Seat Upgrade/Exit Admission Process
Candidates who have been allotted a seat need to take action on any of the below points:
- Accept the seat: Candidates can use this option to confirm their choice of NLU. Once the lock option is used, a candidate's seat at the allotted NLU is freezed. Thereafter, the candidate need not participate in further seat allotment rounds and complete the remaining admission formalities (mentioned below).
- Apply for Upgrade:This option is used when candidates want to change the allotted institute to his or her higher choice (upward shifting). Such candidates will have to wait for next seat allotment list and they will be allotted seats in their preferred college depending on the availability of vacant seats in that college. Candidates choosing upgrade are considered active participants, therefore, they too need to complete the remaining admission formalities (mentioned below).
- Exit from seat allotment:Candidates can choose to exit from the counselling process if they do not wish to participate in the current or further rounds of counselling. It may be noted that once exited, candidates will not be given another chance to participate in the counselling for NLU admissions.
Step 2: Completing admission formalities
After candidates accept the allotted seat or apply for upgrade, they need to upload all the prescribed documents (mentioned above) on the official website for verification. Thereafter, candidates also need to pay the remaining admission fee to the allotted NLU.
Other Law Entrance Exams in India
All those candidates who could not clear the CLAT 2025 Exam must not lose hope. They still have the option to appear for other law entrance exams in the country that are conducted at both national and state level.
