1. Eligibility: To enrol in UG mass communication programmes, the students need to complete their higher secondary studies. To enrol in a PG mass communication course, the students need to have a graduate degree in any discipline.
2. Duration: 1-year diploma courses are available, and the students can also pursue an advanced diploma course in mass communication. The bachelor-level programmes are 3-year courses that are divided into 6 semesters, whereas the masters courses are 2-year courses that are divided into 4 semesters.
3. Changes in the syllabus: The mass communication syllabus has not drastically changed over the years. However, the rise of social media and new trends in journalism have forced the education department to upgrade the curriculum to meet the evolving requirements of the industry. For instance, in specialisations related to public relations and advertisements, the syllabus also focuses on improving the writing and content management skills of the students.
4. Mass communication syllabus in IIMC: The Indian Institute of Mass Communication is one of the most prestigious institutes for mass communication programmes. Some of the core subjects included in the curriculum include communication theory concepts and process, marketing, media planning, creativity and campaign planning, and government and public service communication.
5. Exam format: A total of 100 marks are allotted for each subject in the exam. The theory paper consists of 70 marks, whereas a weightage of 30 marks is allotted to the practical paper.
