By now, candidates must have got a thorough idea of the NEET syllabus and know the NEET exam pattern and have completed the basic preparation. In this article of Shiksha, we bring to you tips on how to crack NEET in three months.

NEET 2024 Exam Pattern

NEET is a paper-pencil-based test of three hours duration carrying 200 questions in total out of which 180 questions have to be attempted. Each subject will be divided into two sections carrying 35 and 15 questions respectively. Candidates will have to attempt 10 out of 15 questions in the second section. The following table brings the NEET 2024 exam structure, which was introduced last year.

Sections Number of Questions Total Marks
Physics Section A 35 140
Physics Section B 15 40
Chemistry Section A 35 140
Chemistry Section B 15 40
Botany Section A 35 140
Botany Section B 15 40
Zoology Section A 35 140
Zoology Section B 15 40

Each question carries four marks and one mark is deducted for each wrong answer. There is no negative marking scheme for unattempted questions. The questions are of the multiple-choice type and carry four answer options out of which candidates have to select the correct answer option in the OMR sheet. Selecting more than one answer option would be considered a wrong answer and it would incur a negative marking.

How to Crack NEET in Three Months

Now we share the strategies or steps aspirants need to follow in order to ace NEET in three months.

Manage your strengths and weaknesses: Based on the initial phase of NEET preparation, aspirants must have identified their strong and weak areas or topics. In the last three months, they should manage both the strong and weak areas carefully. There is still some time left to prepare for the weak areas and try to minimise the weaknesses as much as possible. In case there is a lack of conceptual clarity, one must go back to the basics and refer to NCERT books and other best resources for the subjects in question. Along with gaining conceptual clarity, students should also focus on practice, as no amount of learning would be complete without practice or taking section-wise mock tests. At the same time, they must not lose focus on the strong areas. They should dedicate at least a couple of hours a day to studying and practising the topics they have a stronghold on, otherwise, they would lose touch with those areas and it would be difficult to recuperate those areas later.

Zero down on books and study materials to refer to: There are a plethora of NEET preparation books and study materials available in the market and this often leads to the problem of plenty. Hence, aspirants should go through the list of available books and determine which are the best and must for cracking NEET. NCERT books on Chemistry, Physics and Biology are a must to be studied from. Apart from that, there are certain books that are meant for NEET preparation, and others can be referred to for strengthening the concepts. Experts suggest that candidates should not cram up a lot of books as it may confuse them. The best way is to consult with their teachers, mentors, seniors or fellow students to understand which books would be the best for them.

Revise Regularly: Revision is key at this stage of NEET preparation. Students must go back to the topics they have learned so far so they do not forget the knowledge they have acquired. Aspirants should dedicate the first half of the week to learning new topics and the second leg of the week to revising the topics or subjects they had studied in the previous week. They should continue this cycle to remain up-to-date with all the important topics. In order to retain knowledge on the subjects, it is not enough to get conceptual clarity, one has to constantly revise to be able to complete the NEET 2024 preparation in three months.

Take Regular Mock Tests: Regular writing of mock tests is will aid in taking the NEET 2024 preparation to the next level. Taking regular mock tests will help aspirants understand and analyse their preparation level as well as understand their mistakes. At this stage, NEET aspirants should take at least two mock tests in a week and get their performance analysed by their mentors or experts. NEET Mock tests will also help them assess their preparation vis-a-vis other NEET takers. Based on their analysis of mock test performance, they have to modify their preparation plan. For example, if they score low in a particular section, they have to devote more time to that section. Understanding the type of mistake would be the next focus area. If the wrong answers are caused due to silly mistakes, then they have to improve focus and practice to minimise such errors. On the other hand, if the mistakes are caused due to a lack of understanding, they should not waste any more time and go back to revising the concepts and strengthening their ground.

Refer to Past Years’ Question Papers: There is no better way to know what to expect in the NEET 2024 than to go through and solve previous years’ question papers, which would give aspirants a thorough idea of the topics and their weightage, question types and difficulty level all at once. Hence, aspirants should collect and go through previous years’ question papers to improve their exam-taking strategy and time management skills. By solving multiple NEET question papers, aspirants can make a strategy on which section to attempt first, how many questions or topics to be attempted, and the duration for each question, to name a few.

Maintain Time Table: By now, NEET aspirants must have prepared a timetable for the exam preparation and follow it to the core. It is now time to review the timetable and make the necessary changes. The sections which need improvement should be assigned more duration. The timing for revision, taking mock tests and solving previous years’ question papers should be included in the new timetable. On the other hand, the time that aspirants would have dedicated to gaining conceptual understanding may be replaced with practice and revision. The modification of the table would also depend on the mock test analysis.

While these are some strategies aspirants should follow in the remaining three months of NEET 2024, it is also important for them to maintain composure and take care of their mental and physical health. At this stage, they should focus on their preparation and should not allow any distractions. In short, aspirants should make the most of these three months.

Candidates who have scored 300 marks and wish to pursue MBBS or BDS programs can only apply through the paid seat quota.

This option allows admission by paying a higher fee, unlike the regular merit-based admission process.
