The latest news and notifications will be uploaded at the official NTA website, which is www.nta.ac.in.

Needless to say, the navigation and user interface for the NEET 2024 website by NTA has also changed as compared to last year. Hence, the aspirants should browse the website properly before starting to fill the NEET 2024 application form.

NEET 2024 Not to be Held Outside India (Revised)

NTA conducted the NEET UG exam in international cities since 2021. In 2023, NEET was conducted in 14 international cities across continents. But this year, NTA announced that it will not conduct the exam outside India. However, as per the notice dated February 20, the exam will be conducted in 14 cities abroad, same as last year. The NEET exam centres will be located in 554 cities in India and 14 in abroad.

Q:   Will NEET 2025 have sectional time limits?

A:

No, there is no time limit to solve a section in NEET. The total duration of the exam is 200 minutes, or three hours and 20 minutes. Hence, on an average, candidates will get around five minutes for each question. Candidates must keep a tab on the timing as NEET is a time-pressed exam.

Before the exam day, candidates are advised to prepare a time management strategy wherein a particular timing should be assigned for each section or subject. They must also note that they will not be given any extra time to complete the exam, nor will they be allowed to take breaks in between or leave before time.

Q:   Is there is bonus marking for NEET?

A:

There will be bonus marking or extra marks awarded to NEET candidates only if there is a discrepancy in the NEET answer key. Clarifying the same, NTA has stated:

1. If more than one option is found to be correct then Four marks (+4) will be awarded to only those who have marked any of the correct options.

2. If all options are found to be correct then Four marks (+4) will be awarded to all those who have attempted the question.

3. If none of the options is found correct or a Question is found to be wrong or a Question is dropped then all candidates who have appeared will be given four marks  (+4) irrespective of the fact whether the question has been attempted or not attempted by the candidate.

Q:   Will the NEET 2025 exam pattern change?

A:

The NEET 2025 exam pattern will be announced by NTA in the information brochure, which wll be released tentatively in the second week of February 2025. For the last two years, the exam pattern of NEET has remained the same. Hence, it is expected that the NEET 2025 exam pattern will also remain the same as last year. The NEET exam pattern had undergone changes previously in terms of structure and duration. The continuation of the same exam pattern of NEET will bring a sense of relief among students as they will not require changing their preparation strategy or look for new practice papers. Moreover, the previous years' NEET question papers would suffice for preparation and practice purposes.

Q:   What is the basis of the NEET 2024 analysis?

A:

The NEET 2024 analysis is prepared based on the student reactions and reviews by experts. While the student reactions may vary from one to another as each student has a different perspective, the expert review is a more credible source of NEET 2024 analysis.

The difficulty level of NEET 2024 may vary for candidates, based on their preparation level. Based on the expertise and experience, the NEET 2024 analysis by experts will provide a more in-depth overview of the exam for each subject, topics, syllabus coverage and weightage. Expert analysis for NEET 2024 will also act as a basis of preparation for aspirants planning to appear for the exam next year.

However, student reactions give a first-hand impression of the exam which cannot be ruled out. It gives a glance to the NEET question paper and the personal feedback of candidates. NEET 2024 analysis by student reactions help evaluate the overall performance of candidates and the expected cutoff.

Q:   Will the NEET 2025 exam pattern remain the same as last year?

A:

The NEET 2025 exam pattern is expected to remain the same as last year. NEET is a paper-pencil-based-test of 200 minutes duration and carries 200 objective type multiple choice questions (MCQs) in total. Out of this, 180 questions have to be attempted. The total marks of the exam is 720. Each question has four answer options. Each correct answer fetches four marks and there is one mark negative marking for each wrong answer. There is no negative marking for unattempted questions or extra attempted questions.

Candidates who have already registered will be given the facility to change the exam city to their chosen foreign city during the application correction window. They have to pay the requisite application fee during this period.

NTA states, “Candidates registering afresh from foreign countries can select their preferred country and city directly from the drop-down menu during the application process. They should pay the requisite fee and submit their application.”

NEET 2024 Syllabus

The change in the NEET 2024 syllabus did not come across as a surprise since the National Medical Commission (NMC) and later the National Testing Agency (NTA) had released the latest NEET 2024 syllabus PDF. As per the changed NEET syllabus 2024, several topics have been removed from each of the three subjects, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. On the other hand, a few topics have been added in each subject.

Till last year, the NEET UG syllabus was segregated into Class 11 and Class 12 syllabus. But this year, there has not been any segregation except in the NEET Chemistry syllabus, wherein the units are segregated into Organic Chemistry chapters for NEET, Inorganic Chemistry chapters for NEET and Physical Chemistry chapters for NEET.

NEET 2024 Eligibility Criteria

The NEET 2024 eligibility criteria have been changed in terms of the subjects studied and the Schooling background. Till last year, only those candidates who studied Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology as core subjects were considered eligible for NEET. This year, those who have studied these subjects as additional papers are also eligible in appearing for NEET 2024.

Moreover, candidates who have passed or appeared for Class 12 or equivalent board exam from National Institute of Open Schools (NIOS) are also eligible for NEET 2024. Explaining this, NTA has stated, “The provisions of the regulations disqualifying recognized Open School Board candidates and the candidates who have studied Biology/Biotechnology as an Additional Subject has been struck down. The Medical Council of India has preferred Special Leave Petitions before the Hon’ble Supreme Court and Appeals in the Hon’ble High Courts.

Therefore, the candidature of candidates in the NEET (UG) - 2024 who have passed the qualifying examinations i.e. Class 12 from National Institute of Open Schooling or State Open Schools or as private candidates from recognized State Boards; or with Biology/Biotechnology as an additional subject shall be allowed but subject to the outcome of Special Leave Petitions/Appeals filed by the Medical Council of India).”

Amid these changes, the NEET 2024 exam pattern has remained the same, which brings a relief among candidates. NEET 2024 will be conducted on May 5, 2024, from 2 PM to 5.20 PM. The last date of submitting the NEET 2024 application form is March 9, 2024. Approximately 20 lakh candidates are expected to appear for the exam.
