UPSC 2023 eligibility criteria will be released by the Commission in the official notification. The UPSC CSE 2023 notification will be released on February 1, 2023. The Commission will release the age-limit, educational qualification, attempts allowed and nationality requirements. The Commission will release the Civil Service Exam (CSE) 2023 notification online only. The Commission will conduct the UPSC CSE 2023 prelims exam on May 28 in offline mode.

UPSC Eligibility 2023: The Commission will release the official notification on February 1, 2023. The UPSC CSE 2023 notification will mention all the eligibility criteria required for the UPSC 2023 exam. The candidates need to read and understand the UPSC eligibility conditions as mentioned in the official notification. The UPSC eligibility of the candidate will be verified at the time of the interview. The candidates who do not fulfil the eligibility criteria will be eliminated from the selection process irrespective of their results. The Commission reserve the right to cancel the candidature of the candidates at any stage of exam. UPSC 2023 exam (Prelims) will be conducted on May 28, 2023.

Along with the notification, the application will also be released. The candidates who fulfil the eligibility condition can fill in the UPSC 2023 applications. The candidates whose applications will be accepted by the Commission will get the admit card to appear in the exam. UPSC eligibility criteria cannot be altered without the consent of the Union Government of India. UPSC cannot change the eligibility criteria without the consent of the Ministry of Personnel, which directly comes under the Prime Minister of India. The UPSC Civil Service 2023 exam will be conducted in three stages.

The eligibility criteria have different components, such as the age limit, age relaxation provided to reserved categories, educational qualification, number of attempts, relaxation in the number of attempts and the like. UPSC age limit is the most important factor and sought-after query asked by the candidates. UPSC notification mentions the rules and regulations about the exam. These rules and regulations will govern the conduct of the exam till the completion of the exam process.

UPSC 2023 Age Limit

UPSC eligibility criteria are defined here based on the previous year's notification. The candidates can see the UPSC age limit, educational qualification, number of attempts and the relaxations provided to the categories. UPSC age limit is defined in the official UPSC 2023 notification. UPSC age limit for General Candidate

UPSC age limit is different for different categories. The general category candidates do not enjoy any relaxation in the UPSC age limit criteria.

Lower Age Limit - 21 years

Upper Age Limit - 32 years

For the UPSC exam 2023, the candidate must not be born before August 2, 1992, and not later than August 1, 2003.

Age Relaxation in UPSC Age Limit

UPSC provides age relaxation to the candidates of reserve category candidates. The age relaxations as provided to reserve category candidates can be summarized below:

Education Qualification Required for UPSC 2023

The education qualification required to apply online for the UPSC exam is a graduate degree. A candidate who has a graduate degree can apply for the Civil Service Exam. There is no condition of minimum percentage. To provide a level playing field, there is no condition of minimum percentage required in the graduation exam. The candidates who are in the final year of graduation can apply for the exam can apply online but they will be required to 

Eligibility Condition for Already Selected Candidates

The candidates who are appointed to Indian Administrative Service (IAS), the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and continue to be its member are not allowed to appear in the Civil Service Prelims exam. In case they want to appear in the exam, they need to resign from their service and then only they can attempt. On the other hand, an existing IPS can appear in the Civil Service Exam.

Eligibility Criteria for Doctors

UPSC mentions special conditions and some restrictions in the case of MBBS degree holders. The doctors who have completed their studies but are yet to complete their internship can apply for the Civil Service Exam. However, they will be required to submit their certificate of completion of an internship at the time of submission of the Detailed Application Form (DAF) for the main exam.

UPSC Eligibility Nationality requirements

UPSC Civil Service Exam is an open exam for the Citizens of India irrespective of the state and union territory because India has the concept of single citizenship. Besides that, the exam is open to other candidates also such as

(b) a subject of Nepal, or

(c) a subject of Bhutan, or

(d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India, or

(e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

But there is a rider attached to it. The candidates belonging to the above categories need to get the approval from Government of India before their appointment.

Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) and (e) shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.

The candidate must be an Indian Citizen for the appointment into the All India Service (IAS, IPS and IFoS). 

Attempts Allowed in UPSC 2023 

The candidates search the number of attempts allowed in the UPSC exam. The Commission count the attempt of the candidates and do not allow them to appear in the Civil Service Exam after a certain limit for their category. The number of attempts allowed in the UPSC exam is summarised below:

How an Attempt is Counted in UPSC Exam?

The Commission count the attempt of the candidate in case he or she appears in any one paper of the UPSC prelims exam. If the candidates appear in the General Studies paper 1 of the IAS prelims exam, his or her attempt will be counted.

Q: What is the minimum percentage required to apply for UPSC exam?

A: The candidate must be a graduate of a recognised university. There is no minimum percentage required to to apply online for UPSC exam. Any graduate from any stream can become an IAS officer. The candidates who has 33 % in their graduation degree course can also apply for the exam.
