B.Tech. in Electronics and Communication Engineering (Avionics) 

at IIST Trivandrum, Thiruvananthapuram

Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) offers only two B.Tech courses: Aerospace Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering (Avionics). Both courses are highly specialised and focused on space Science and technology. Students who are interested in aeronautics and space Science can choose Aerospace Engineering, while those who are interested in communication systems and electronics can choose Avionics. Both courses have good placement records, and students have received placement opportunities from organizations such as BEL Bengaluru, LEOS Bengaluru, ISAC Bengaluru, LPSC Valiamala, and VSSC Thiruvananthapuram. Ultimately, the choice between the two courses depends on the student's interests and career goals.

Yes, the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology does offer dual degree in BTech and MTech. The dual degree programme is offered for five years covering ten semesters. On successful completion, the students are awarded a BTech degree in Engineering Physics and MTech. degree in one of the following four postgraduate streams:

• Astronomy and Astrophysics
• Science in Solid State Physics
• Earth System Science
• Optical Engineering

The overall cost of BTech at IIST - Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology is NR 2.5 Lakh - INR 6.3 lakh. The fee also  includes application fees which are INR 600 for male OBC/GEN, INR 300 for female OBC/GEN, and INR 300 for ST/SC/PD. The fee is sourced from various sources, hence indicative. The fees also include other one-time payments such as , alumni fees, convocation cum degree fee, etc. Candidates must make the payment online. The institution also offers exemption for ST/SC/ PD students.

Out of 130 BTech students in the batch 2019-23, 81 were eligible for ISRO absorption. Further, 38 Non-ISRO placement/ full-time offers were made. Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology offers BTech, Mtech, MSc, and PhD. Candidates must qualify for the course-wise entrance exam to join IIST.

• For BTech, candidates must first qualify the JEE Main, and JEE Advanced and complete the entire admission process of the institution.
• For M.Tech and MSc, candidates must qualify for the GATE exam, complete the institution’s admission process, and appear for the written test and interview.
• For PhD, candidate must qualify for the UGC NET/ UGC8 NET/ JEST  (or) GATE

Step 1: IIST Online Application Process 2024

IISc Bangalore conducted the GATE 2024 exam on February 3, 4, 10, and 11, 2024. The GATE 2024 application form was released on 24th August 2024 on the official website at gate.iisc.ac.in. The organising institute for GATE 2024 was IISc Bangalore. The exam was conducted online as a computer-based test for 29 papers. Candidates had to solve 65 questions in 180 minutes (3 hours).
