Frequently Asked Questions

Q:   Can I join SRM IST without the entrance?

A:

Yes, SRM University offers direct admission to certain programs for eligible candidates who meet the required eligibility criteria. The admission criteria for these programs may include past academic performance, work experience, and other relevant factors. However, for most of the programs offered by SRM University, admission is through the SRMJEEE (SRM Joint Engineering Entrance Examination) or other national level entrance exams.

Therefore, it is recommended that you check the specific admission requirements for the programme you are interested in on the university's website or by contacting the admissions office. In case you do not qualify for direct admission or wish to appear for the entrance exam, you can apply for SRMJEEE and appear for the exam. The exam is conducted annually and is the basis for admission to several programs offered by the university.

Q:   Is SRM University good for B.Tech?

A:

Here are some positive and negative points of SRM University:

Positive:

  1. Located in Chennai which is a metropolitan city. Three out of five campuses are located in Chennai
  2. You can have a lot of fun
  3. In KTR, there are a lot of opportunities provided to students to develop their profile like hundreds of clubs, teams like robocon, conrods, camber, and 4ze where students can build their own bots, cars and stuff. If you are really interested in your field then you can do anything in SRM
  4. Canteen facilities are excellent
  5. As far as placements are concerned, most students are placed in IT sector. Core companies also visit the campus but they select only one or two students. In a batch of 500600 students i.e. 1520 students are placed in core companies. But still that depends on your skills and we can’t blame the university for that.

Negative:

  1. The student to faculty ratio is too high.
  2. Faculty members are not very highly skilled, though they are postgraduates in their respective field. Most of them have completed M.Tech from other local colleges. There are very few from IITs and foreign universities.
  3. The curriculum is old.
  4. The evaluation system is also not very good.
  5. Very little research happens here. Most of the faculty members don’t have any publications
  6. Also, if you have a lot of money you can join in management quota into any branch you want. Almost half of the students have joined in management quota.

All the best.

SRM, take it and make the future bright.
Placements: 95 percent of students will be placed in my course. The highest package is INR 45 lakhs per year, the lowest is INR 4 lakhs, and the average is INR 9 lakhs per year, so many companies will be recruited like Sony, Amazon, Microsoft, Google, etc. 85 percent of students got internships; the top roles are software developers.
Infrastructure: The faculty is good enough and highly qualified. Our college is named for infrastructure; the wi-fi is high-speed; and the classrooms are neat and clean The hostel has table tennis sports equipment (AC, carrom boards, chess, cricket bats, etc.).
Faculty: Yes, they are helpful, highly qualified and knowledgeable. They have good staff and some rude staff. Also, it makes students ready for industry. Yes, some things are tough and some are easy. It purely depends on our knowledge. The pass percentage is good enough; everybody passed because of the great knowledge of the faculty.
Other: I chose this course because I have a personal interest in it. The best thing about my course is that it is a well-known developing course that has many benefits and placements. There is no need for improvement; it is good enough.

There are really good infrastructure and facilities here.
Placements: I am a first-year student. So, I don't know much about the placements held in our college this year. However, I had some conversations with one of my senior friends, and they told me that around 6,000 students were offered jobs on the first day of placements. Most of the placements were offered by Wipro, Infosys and one or two more companies, but I don't remember their names.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi facility is available 24x7 on the campus as well as in the hostel. Labs are also nicely maintained. Classrooms are also huge and have proper ventilation. The library is also huge here, and it is sprawled over 3 floors, along with the ground floor. The library is completely air-conditioned and well protected by fire alarms and CCTV cameras. You can get all types of books ranging from engineering and technology to life sciences and everything. This library also contains a facility of books and journals.
Faculty: Teachers here are very kind and knowledgeable. You will get support from them for everything. Their way of teaching is also very good. In my first semester, the syllabus was the same as what I read in the 12th standard. However, some of the subjects were new also. In the second semester, the course curriculum seems relevant. From the very first semester, you will get to know all about the industry to get ready for it.

SRM institute of Science and technology, Kattankulathur.
Placements: The placement percentage in the college are 100%, but with this good percentage there is also bad placements, not all placements are good, the average placement package is 8LPA, The highest package offered in the college was 45LPA last year (2023). Nearly 95% of students get internship in the college, it also depends on your hard work and willingness to develop your skills.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure of the college is great for classes and labs, There is Wi-Fi in every classroom (80+mbps in every classroom), there is a 3 floor library (pretty big library) with all types of books related to syllabus, course preparation (like GRE GATE CAT etc.). And fictional. Hostel facilities are not good, for first year the hostels available are good and rooms are big enough, but for 2nd years and onwards the price is high and food is not good (atleast for my taste, I don't recommend staying in hostel for more than 1 year). There is a very big hospital in the college itself with mostly all the specialities as there is also a medical degree offered by the university.
Faculty: Every Faculty member holds a Ph.D. in the college. The professors are good, but the assistant and associate professors are average (except few). The teaching quality for the first 2 years is pretty good but the syllabus for the first 2 years in my course (computer Science) is a waste (like Biology Chemistry etc.). The syllabus from 3rd year is relevant and does help you understand the basics of the skills you'll need to be industry ready. There are 3 cycle tests in each semester that have a hardness level of medium (also depend on the subject), and there is a university theory and practical exam (practical only for applicable subjects). Pass percentage from each class is 80%. .
Other: I chose this course because of my interest in the subjects, the best thing about my course are the topics in the syllabus of 3rd year (like game design, etc.). I think more practical exposure and trained teacher for my course would improve the experience in my course. The crowd and social life in the campus is very good for people who are extroverts, you can easily make many friends and enjoy a happy 4 years, for introverts also it is not very hard to enjoy a social life if they want to, there are many clubs in the campus and there are atleast 4-5 event every month conducted by the clubs. There are 2 big events in the campus :- Aarush (conducted by a club run by students names aarush) and Milan (conducted by college and faculty members). For scholarships you have to be in top 3 of your class to get a scholarship every year.
