Is BE/BTech at CET Trivandrum a good choice?

Based on the feedback from students and alumni, here are some key points that highlight the strengths and weaknesses of pursuing a BE/BTech degree at CET Trivandrum:

    Strengths:

    * Good Placement Records: Many students have reported high placement rates, with some students receiving packages as high as INR36 LPA (Electrical Engineer).
    * Strong Industry Connections: The college has ties with several top companies, resulting in numerous recruitment drives and internships.
    * Well-Qualified Faculty: Professors are often Ph.D. holders and have experience in their respective fields.
    * State-of-the-Art Infrastructure: The college has modern laboratories, classrooms, and amenities like Wi-Fi, libraries, and sports facilities.
    * Active Clubs and Fests: The college hosts various technical and cultural events, such as Drishti (tech fest), Dhwani (cultural fest), and Odisha (inter-departmental fest).

    Weaknesses:

    * Outdated Curriculum: Some students feel that the curriculum could use updates to better reflect industry demands.
    * Limited Practical Exposure: While labs are well-equipped, some students believe that more hands-on experience would benefit their learning.
    * Infrastructure Issues: Some departments, like the Mechanical Block, may require renovation.
    * Food Quality: Mess food can vary in quality, with some students preferring alternative options.

Overall, pursuing a BE/BTech degree at CET Trivandrum seems like a viable option for those seeking a strong educational foundation, good placement prospects, and opportunities to participate in co-curricular activities. However, it's essential to weigh these benefits against potential drawbacks and consider personal preferences when making an informed decision.

Great college life with not so great academics.
Placements: Around 50-60% of students get placed and the rest go for further studies or don't get placed on campus. The highest package was around 39 LPA which my senior got on campus and the lowest would be maybe 4-5 LPA I guess. Texas is the top recruiter for our department.
Infrastructure: The quality of facilities and infrastructure is like any government college, nothing to hype about. Wi-Fi is slow and classrooms are okay I would say. Not the best but not the worst also. I don't live in the college hostel. I stay outside as a paying guest but as far as I have heard from the college inmates, the rooms are decent and the food is better than any other outside hostel.
Faculty: Some teachers are good. Some are not that good also just like any school or college but some are really wonderful and helpful. All the teachers are highly qualified but all of them know how to teach properly I would say (not someone to judge but that's what I would say from a student's perspective). Course curriculum is relevant but the time allotted for one semester is very low around 3-3.5 months which I don't find very tough but I hear many of my college mates complaining about it.
Other: To be honest, everyone was taking engineering and maybe that's why even I took it. Or maybe I didn't have much idea about my own interests which led me to engineering but after 1.5 years of engineering I am slightly getting an idea of what I want to do in life so probably after 4 years of B.Tech even if I don't know what I want in life, I'll definitely know what I don't want in life (that is engineering?).

Faculty members are good. Placements are best, infrastructure is old but good.
Placements: Electrical and Computer Engineering is a new course in my college, started in 2024 with 66 students. As of today, we can't say anything about placements as we are the first batch here. But the expectations are that with more skills attained in the computing field, we are expecting better placements than other current courses like Electrical and Electronics. However, at present, companies are recruiting based on individual skills, so the course may not be the case. We come under the Department of Electrical, and the top companies are Oracle, Schneider, Texas Instruments, etc., which give an average package of 15-20 Lacs per annum. One student from Electrical got placed at Oracle this year, a few in Schneider, and many recently got placed at TCS. More top placements are not yet here.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi is not yet available for classrooms, but Wi-Fi in the library is available. Labs are in working condition, but could have some modifications and beautification. Classrooms are fine. Both the department library and the college library are good and available.
Faculty: The new curriculum is far better because of the new skills offered in it. More outcome-based subjects were introduced. All the faculty members are qualified from top colleges and are knowledgeable. Teaching quality is good for some and not so good for others. Yes, the curriculum makes students effective with more industry-based skill sets. I haven’t written the semester exam yet, as it is decided to be held on December 31, 2024.
Other: The campus of CET is the best for connectivity, engaging activities, and extracurricular activities. The best crowd is on the CET campus.

Review of College of Engineering, Trivandrum.
Placements: College of Engineering, Trivandrum, has the best placement list in Kerala. Each and every department has core company placements. Comparatively, the Computer Science department has higher package offers. The highest placement in the academic year 2023 is 15 LPA.
Infrastructure: The college is large compared to other colleges in Kerala. It is one of the richest in lab equipment and facilities. The college also has a large library, open to everyone, and provides hostel accommodations for both men and women at a nominal rate.
Faculty: Teachers are good and have proper knowledge about our topics. The syllabus is a little bit old, but now a new scheme has been installed for new students. The pass percentage is average because many have a lazy mindset and are not working properly. Semester exams may be difficult, but they may not be too difficult.

Best in Kerala. If you need a college with the best in study and college life, join.
Placements: Around 60 percent of students in our course are placed in our college. Around 25 LPA is the highest and 6 LPA is the lowest, with an average of 12 LPA. Top recruiting companies are Shoba Construction, Renault, etc. Around 50 percent of students got internships in companies like Cochin Shipyard, etc.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi is available in every classroom. The infrastructure of the classrooms is of high quality. There are more than 5 computer labs and also a library which contains more than 1 lakh books, useful for studying and referring to any engineering topic you need and excel in.
Faculty: Teachers are highly qualified and knowledgeable, but the quality of teaching is average. It's like, if you need to understand the topic, you should self-learn it. The main intention of attending the class is attendance. Yes, our course is a good course, which is not only engineering but also management, making our course a better deal. Our semester exams are moderate, and our college has a decent pass percentage, i.e., above 87 percent.
Other: Our course is entirely different from other courses and is comparatively simple and job-oriented. By completing the course, I think I can improve my skills in management and improve my career. When talking about events, our college is one of the best. Our cultural festival, Dhwani, is one of the best in the state, and the technical festival, Drishti, is also great. There are a lot of extracurricular activities for those interested in each field.

The college and its programmes always gets me engaged.
Placements: The packages aren't bad, and last year many seniors got placed. This year, however, fewer students were placed than last year. Some seniors were even placed in their third year. Although the number of companies recruiting for our course is lower, most placements are in software and office jobs.
Infrastructure: Our department has a separate new block, but it is not fully functional yet. Some classes are held in the new block, and some in the mechanical block, since our department is a branch of the mechanical department. There are plenty of facilities in our college, including a wide variety of labs that are always functional, and clubs to encourage any kind of aspiration. The hostels are not bad, providing minimal facilities and a minimal feel. The college supports all co-curricular activities and encourages sports, with a physical department that includes a gym, courts, and other facilities. There is also a canteen that serves affordable food.
Faculty: The faculty members are well educated and have high qualification profiles. They are well versed in their subjects and teach well. The curriculum is based on Kalam Technical University and is quite relevant. Exams are often conducted and evaluated, and the pass percentage for our course is pretty high. With consistent study, students should be able to score good grades.
Other: I chose this college and this course because of the reputation of the college, not because of the course itself. But now I don't regret my choice. The course is going to have a good impact on my future. Coming to the cultural programs at our college, CET is well known for its technical and cultural fest. You'll never get bored here if you have friends to hang out with.

    The average experience at CET.
Placements: The highest package offered was by Texas Instruments at 36 LPA. The lowest package was from companies like TCS, which were mass hiring at 3.3 LPA. Top companies are TI, Bosch, and Schneider Electric in my domain. Most companies are non-core, and those are the companies most people got placed in.
Infrastructure: There is a department library and the college library. The college library has more facilities and books than the department library. Wi-Fi is available for each class, but you need to register your device beforehand. There’s also Wi-Fi availability in other spots around the college.
Faculty: Teachers are qualified and knowledgeable but not very helpful. The teaching quality is average. It's all self-study; do not expect to be spoon-fed, even when it comes to labs and workshops. The curriculum is relevant. Semester exams are not difficult, and the pass percentage is high in the college.
