MTech admission at IIT Madras is primarily based on GATE scores, followed by COAP counselling. However, as per the basic eligibility criteria mentioned on the official website of IIT Madras, getting admission at the institute without qualifying for the GATE entrance exam is possible. For this, candidates must have a BTech degree from one of the IITs, with a minimum CGPA of 8.0 (on a scale of 10). Such candidates can directly apply for MTech admission through the official IIT Madras website. IIT Madras admissions for BTech are entirely entrance-based. To secure a seat at top BTech specialisations at IIT Madras, candidates must qualify for JEE Main, followed by JEE Advanced with a good rank. Candidates who passed Class 12 with a minimum of 75% aggregate are eligible to sit for the respective entrance exam. Candidates will be selected based on their past academic records and scores obtained in the respective entrance exams. Furthermore, the selected candidates will be allocated seats through the JoSAA Counselling process.

Ltd., VMock India Pvt. Ltd., and TATA Consultancy Services Limited. According to media reports, 1,722 students registered for the 2023 placement process. At the end of session 1.1, a total of 445 offers were made. Among these, 25 offers were of packages above INR 1 crore per annum. Further, 15 international offers were received from four companies. A total of 331 companies registered for phase I of IIT Madras placements in 2023. The institute recorded the highest-ever pre-placement offers of 407.

For admission to IIT Madras, candidates must pass Class 12 and graduation before applying for the course. As per the minimum eligibility requirements for the course, candidates need a BE/BTech/BArch degree or a master's in Science/Arts with a minimum of 60% aggregate (55% for SC/ST/PwD). Qualifications from exams by recognised professional societies are also accepted. Further, candidates will be selected based on a valid GATE score.

Apart from this, candidates who graduated from IITs with BTech degree and having CGPA of 8.0 (on a scale of 10) and above are eligible to apply for direct admission without GATE score. In addition, it is also crucial that the applicant hold the relevant documents as a proof of eligibility that has to be submitted at the time of registration and documents verification after gettting admission.

To seek admission to the BTech programme offered at IIT Madras, candidates need to visit the official website of the National Testing Agency (NTA) and fill out the application form in online mode for JEE Main. For other courses such as MSc, MTech, BS-MS (Dual Degree) etc., candidates must visit the official website of respective national-level entrance exam conducting bodies and fill out the application form in online mode. IIT Madras BSc admission is entrance-based as the institute primarily accepts the rank and scores of the JEE Main examination for admission to its full-time BSc programme. However, if candidates wish to apply for the integrated BS plus MS programme, then they can apply for admission through the scores of the IISER Aptitude Test. Therefore, you can join the BSc course at IIT Madras without giving the JEE.   

Yes, there are many other courses for which the selection criteria are different and the prescribed entrance exam is also other than JEE-Main and JEE-Advanced. Below are some of the courses offered at IIT Madras along with their eligibility criteria and entrance exam:

• MTech: IIT Madras offers a two-year full-time M.Tech programme across various specialisations. The institute inducts candidates for the M.Tech programmes based on valid GATE scores followed by the counselling process.
• MBA: For admission to the full-time two year MBA programme at IIT Madras, candidates are required to appear for the CAT exam. Candidates based on their CAT scores will be shortlisted for the Group Discussion & Personal Interview (PI) round.
• MSc: IIT Madras accepts admission to the MSc programme based on a valid score/ rank in the IIT-JAM exam.

Experts share that the IIT JAM exam is difficult to clear. This is not because the difficulty level of the questions asked is very high but because the selection ratio through the IIT JAM exam is low. However, this does not mean that the questions asked in the exam are very easy.

For IIT Madras MSc admission, candidates need to apply online via IIT JAM. After successful registration, candidates are then required to appear for the entrance exam. Selected candidates are then called for the counselling round as a final selection round. IIT JAM registration window for IIT Madras MSc admission 2023 is now closed.
