Frequently Asked Questions

Q:   Can I get direct admission at Jesus and Mary College?

A:

No, you cannot get direct admission at Jesus and Mary College. The admission to the college is done through online mode, and the candidates must be eligible based on merit in the last qualifying examination. The eligibility criteria for admission to UG programs require candidates to complete the last qualifying examination with the required percentage. The admission to BCom (H) requires candidates to have studied mathematics in the 12th standard. The college offers UG, PG, and certificate courses, and the admission criteria are either entrance exams or merit-based. The college has a specific admission schedule, including registration, application, and document submission dates. The college is committed to 50% reservation for minority students who are Christians and provides directions for reserved seats for SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD category students.

Q:   Are admissions at Jesus and Mary College entrance-based or merit-based?

A:

Jesus and Mary College (JMC), located in New Delhi, India follows enterance-based admissions. The candidate's 12th score is also taken into consideration. The eligibility criteria for most of the courses is a candidate must have cleared 12th with a minimum of 50% marks in the relevant stream from a recognized board.

After that candidates have to apply for CUET exams conducted by the college. Admission to the courses is based on these CUET exams only.

Q:   Can students join Jesus and Mary College directly without any entrance exam?

A:

As last update in January 2022, admission policies can vary from year to year and may be subject to change. Jesus and Mary College (JMC), like many other colleges in India, typically requires students to undergo an entrance examination or meet certain eligibility criteria for admission into its undergraduate programs. These entrance exams could be conducted at the national level, like the Common Entrance Test (CET) or university-level exams conducted by the University of Delhi.

However, colleges may have provisions for direct admission under certain circumstances such as reserved seats for specific categories, sports quota, or merit-based admissions. It's best to check the latest admission guidelines provided by Jesus and Mary College or the University of Delhi to confirm the current admission process and eligibility criteria. You can visit Shiksha's website for more information.

Q:   Does Jesus and Mary College accept CUET score?

A:

As of my last update in January 2022, Jesus and Mary College (JMC) in New Delhi, India, is affiliated with the University of Delhi. At that time, the University of Delhi primarily admitted students based on merit lists derived from board examination scores (such as CBSE or other relevant boards), rather than through entrance exams like the CUET (Common University Entrance Test).

However, educational policies and admission procedures can change over time, so I would recommend checking the official website of Jesus and Mary College or the University of Delhi for the most up-to-date information regarding their admission process and acceptance of the CUET score.

Q:   How is the college life at Jesus and Mary College?

A:

College life in any college depends on various factors. In JMC, college life will mainly depend on the kind of people/friends you meet. It is actually happening for people with group of active friends as there are lot of cafes nearby to visit with your friends.  Fests are a regular thing in JMC especially in the month of April / May which gets boring at times but still fun. The campus is beautiful with many picture taking spots and an amazing library.

JMC - One of the best colleges of University of Delhi.
Placements: Approximately 30% students went for placements, where the average package is 3 Lacs, and the highest package went to 5 Lacs. The top roles offered were Sales Development Manager, etc. The top companies where students were placed were Amiri, Gucci, etc.
Infrastructure: Best infrastructure. Jesus and Mary College is one of the colleges with the best infrastructure in the whole University of Delhi. We have libraries, different departmental rooms, Wi-Fi, etc. Our college does not provide hostels, but there are nearby PGs available. The canteen has amazing and affordable food.
Faculty: The teachers are super helpful, and they are always ready to support when students are trying to find new ways to excel in their courses. The semester exams are easy to score. You require 66.66% attendance to be eligible to appear for examinations.

Excellent crowd, regular events and good faculty.
Placements: 99% of students from the previous batch got placed in companies like KPMG, although the packages offered were not very great, the highest package goes up to 6-7 LPA. As for internships, as far as I know, you have to search for it yourself. From what I have heard, the jobs offered were not only in the retail sector but also in other sectors as well.
Infrastructure: Classrooms are spacious and airy. Although the Wi-Fi doesn't work at all. The library is great; it has all related books and ample space to self-study. There is no hostel facility, but you can find good PGs nearby. The computer labs are great. The hall is the best.
Faculty: The teachers are from commerce and management backgrounds and are extremely helpful. Since B.Voc is related to practical knowledge, it is extremely important in today's times. It focuses more on skills rather than theory. The exams are easy for sem 1; however, from sem 2, a little math will be included.
Other: The reason why I chose this course was that it is very practical; there isn't too much theory that you have to memorize. Plus, it's a mix of commerce and management, so it's good for students who couldn't get admission in B.Com. The only thing I would like to improve about the course would be that they don't provide internships. You have to search for it yourself. If they provided internships, it would make the course more practical. Regular events and department fests are organized, which is really fun. The crowd is excellent. You will learn to carry yourself properly in this excellent crowd. The campus is pretty and is very close to the metro station; one can easily walk to the campus from the station.

Nice college but bad staff.
Placements: The job placement prospects aren't good. Most of the companies that visit don't recruit any interns. There aren't enough jobs for the courses they offer, such as mine and almost all the B.Voc courses. Moreover, most of those jobs do not prioritize whether you attended university.
Infrastructure: If you're looking for a laid-back college in South Campus, JMC is your go-to college. JMC is an unproblematic and calm place. Most of the girls I've interacted with are sweet and easygoing. The library and other resources are honestly great. It's a beautiful campus with good facilities and genuinely liberal-minded people. The environment is appropriately competitive and cooperative at the same time. We're surrounded by the best cafes and hangout spots, all within 10-15 minutes at most.
Faculty: The faculty is somewhat lazy and won't address your issues on time. You have to keep following up for any approvals for society work. The teachers are sweet but often unavailable, and many lectures get canceled frequently. They're rarely on time. To get into JMC, you'll need a pretty good score in CUET. For my course, you need around 700 marks or more, but for Psychology (Hons), you'll need a minimum of 770 marks. The semester exams are not that hard and are not taken very seriously.

Really good infrastructure.
Placements: Approximately all the students of previous batches were placed. The students were offered by different companies such as Delloite etc. Different roles offered were such as Supply chain manager, operations head etc. All the faculty members are really helpful.
Infrastructure: We have library access, a B.Voc lab is there, common rooms, Wi-Fi etc. The quality of food in the canteen is okay. Sports facilities are great. Almost all kind of sports are there such as tennis, volleyball, badminton etc. We have reserved rooms also.
Faculty: A B.Voc course makes a student ready for the industry and make him or her better for the practical world. A student needs 66.7% min. Attendance. And the semester exams are not that thought, it's more of a logic based exam. Students are made more ready to face the world.

Great infrastructure, good placements in recent years, and overall satisfaction with this college.
Placements: Students are placed with above 80% in this course. The salary package we attain in the course varies from 3 LPA to 6 LPA. Some of the top recruiting companies for our course are Reliance digital, Marks and Spencer, H&M, etc. The top job roles offered in our course are retail team leader, departmental head, store manager, etc.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of Jesus and Mary is commendable. It radiates a lot of positive energy, the auditorium is grand and the library in JMC is three-floored. The field is huge and appropriate for organising various intercollege activities. The classrooms although not air-conditioned but are fully ventilated.
Faculty: Professors in Jesus and Mary are one of the best. They help us through thick and thin and they are not only our teachers but also our mentors and guides. We get to learn a lot from the experience they have gained. The course is absolutely curriculum relevant and makes us all industry ready. A compulsory internship every year helps us gain perspective on the subjects and job roles.
