B.A. (Hons.) in Economics - Batch of 2025
Offered by Jesus and Mary College ,University of Delhi

The college has good infrastructure and an elite crowd.
Placements: Around 47 to 50 students are enrolled in Economics Honours. To get into Economics Honours at JMC, one needs to score a minimum of 750 out of 800 marks in academics. In my batch, a few students were placed in Bain, and a few in Accenture. Companies recruiting from my course include KPMG, Genpact, Deloitte, and DE Shaw. The domains these companies offer include finance, marketing, and research.
Infrastructure: Jesus and Mary College is one of the most prestigious colleges of Delhi University. It is located in a peaceful and scenic spot in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. The infrastructure consists of three major blocks that are administrative, academic, and a library block, nicknamed the L Building. There is also a stationery shop, two common rooms, an open gym area, a medical room, a football ground, a tennis court and basketball court. Thevenet Hall is probably the most conspicuous landmark of the infrastructure.
Faculty: Faculty members at Jesus and Mary College are generally well-qualified and very friendly. They keep the faculty-student ratio fairly well-balanced. Professors are pleasant and inspire participation from students in open discussions that result in a sound learning atmosphere. They provide guidance regarding academic matters as well as extracurricular projects. Individual experience with the faculty members may vary otherwise according to expectations from individuals with regard to subject matter preference. In Economics Honours, the majority of the papers are quantitative, thus necessitating a strong mathematical and statistical background.
Other: The Economics Honours course at Jesus and Mary College is updated, relevant, and in-depth, both theoretically and practically, with a specific focus on building the foundation of economic concepts and fostering analytical and problem-solving skills, so I have chosen this course. It is designed to build a strong foundation in economic concepts while encouraging critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The relevance and rigor of the course curriculum help in personal and professional development. The crowd here is often described as elite, with students excelling in academics, extracurricular, and leadership roles. At Jesus and Mary College (JMC), college life is full of opportunities.

The college provides good infrastructure and environment.
Placements: Placements in our college are not that good. The highest salary package offered is 4.5 LPA by McKinsey. Other companies like E&Y, Deloitte and KPMG also visited our campus for placements and recruited few students. Deloitte visited our campus only to recruit B.Com students. Placement opportunities are better for B.Com students.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our college is good. The college is constantly improving its infrastructure. The college has a canteen. There are two beautiful gardens. There is an excellent hall where all the events take place. There is also an amphitheatre where dramatics happen, and meetings are also conducted by the societies.
Faculty: Faculty members are well-educated. They are very helpful. The course curriculum is good. Some teachers use presentations wherein students prepare presentations on the topics to be covered for that semester, and they learn through that.
Other: It is located in a posh area in Delhi, so the surroundings are beautiful. The college is in the embassy area of the city.

Best college option for women to have good placements and to start their future in the best way.
Placements: In my course, a maximum of 70% of students get placed with an average package of 4 LPA and the lowest 2 to 2.5 LPA. There are various companies that came for placement but offered average packages. Companies offered various roles in economics, data analytics, consulting, teaching, etc.
Infrastructure: Jesus and Mary is a women’s college which is a part of the University of Delhi. Wi-Fi is available at the campus, but they don’t provide any kind of hostel facility to the students. Wi-Fi is available in classrooms, labs, and the library as well.
Faculty: As it is a government college, the teachers are very qualified and knowledgeable. They help students to complete their assignments and also help them participate in extracurricular activities. Exams are conducted on a semester basis and the passing percentage is 80%. Exams are not that difficult if students study or attend maximum classes.
Other: My college is a women’s college, and it provides various opportunities for women to express themselves and achieve their goals. There is also a quota for Christian students because it is a minority-based college for Christians.

Review of Jesus and Mary College.
Placements: The placement opportunities weren't great for our batch. Many students pursued masters after graduation for which many students didn't sit for placements. All the regular companies and brands visit the campus for placements. Although, students from commerce background get better opportunities.
Infrastructure: The college provides good facilities. It has a great library. The campus has enough open spaces and a playground. Washrooms are clean. The canteen facility can be improved. The college has big halls and amphitheatre. According to me, the college is one among the best under Delhi University.
Faculty: The course curriculum is according to the norms of Delhi University. Exams and evaluation are conducted timely. The faculty members are good enough, but the standards can be improved. Economics, English, Sociology and Commerce are few among the best departments of the college. The college has many societies. The college conducts extracurricular activities as well.

The review of JMC - Jesus and Mary College.
Placements: Placements for our batch were pretty decent. Big4 accounting firms namely EY, KPMG, and PwC visited the campus for final placements. Some companies from other different domains also visited the campus to offer different roles in various domains. People who wished to get placed got placed in these companies.
Infrastructure: Jesus and Mary College is known for its infrastructure. We have a three-storey library. The campus is situated in a posh location named Chanakyapuri. The whole campus is Wi-Fi-enabled. Sports infrastructure is also very good. Medical facilities are also available for the students.
Faculty: Faculty members of our college are very well known and distinguished. The course curriculum is a bit outdated and is needed to be revised. The course curriculum should be more industry-specific so that the students don't feel that there is a between what they learnt in college and its practical implications in the corporate industry.

Q:   Can students join Jesus and Mary College directly without any entrance exam?

A:

As last update in January 2022, admission policies can vary from year to year and may be subject to change. Jesus and Mary College (JMC), like many other colleges in India, typically requires students to undergo an entrance examination or meet certain eligibility criteria for admission into its undergraduate programs. These entrance exams could be conducted at the national level, like the Common Entrance Test (CET) or university-level exams conducted by the University of Delhi.

However, colleges may have provisions for direct admission under certain circumstances such as reserved seats for specific categories, sports quota, or merit-based admissions. It's best to check the latest admission guidelines provided by Jesus and Mary College or the University of Delhi to confirm the current admission process and eligibility criteria. You can visit Shiksha's website for more information.

Q:   Does Jesus and Mary College accept CUET score?

A:

As of my last update in January 2022, Jesus and Mary College (JMC) in New Delhi, India, is affiliated with the University of Delhi. At that time, the University of Delhi primarily admitted students based on merit lists derived from board examination scores (such as CBSE or other relevant boards), rather than through entrance exams like the CUET (Common University Entrance Test).

However, educational policies and admission procedures can change over time, so I would recommend checking the official website of Jesus and Mary College or the University of Delhi for the most up-to-date information regarding their admission process and acceptance of the CUET score.

Q:   Is B.Sc. at Jesus and Mary College a good choice?

A:
{Source: B.Sc. students & alumni}

Is B.Sc. at Jesus and Mary College (JMC) a good choice?

Here's a summary of the key points:

* Teaching Quality: Faculty members are generally helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable. Some professors display excellent teaching skills, while others may need improvement.
* Course Curriculum: While some students find the curriculum relevant, others feel it focuses too much on theoretical concepts and not enough on practical applications.
* Industry Readiness: Students mentioned that their course doesn't prepare them directly for industry jobs, but they do receive training that makes them "industry-ready."
* Examinations: Exam questions range from easy to difficult, and the pass percentage varies. Some departments have stricter attendance policies, affecting student participation.
* Placements: Placement opportunities exist, but success rates vary across departments. Average salaries range between INR2-INR6 Lacs per annum, with top recruiters like ICICI, EY, and Deloitte.
* Campus Infrastructure: Facilities like Wi-Fi, laboratories, libraries, and hostels are available. However, some areas require attention, such as the lack of hostel facilities for mathematics students.
* Ambiance: The college provides a friendly atmosphere, encouraging extracurricular activities and building confidence among students.

Overall, studying B.Sc. at JMC can be a good choice if you're willing to put in effort to succeed despite potential challenges with the curriculum and limited placement opportunities in certain departments.
