Q:   Is M.Sc. at NIT Jamshedpur a good choice?

A:
{Source: M.Sc. students & alumni}

Here's a summary of the pros and cons of pursuing M.Sc. at NIT Jamshedpur:

Pros:

* Excellent faculty: Faculty members are helpful, and their teaching quality is good. Most professors hold a Post-Doc degree in their respective subjects and are well-qualified.
* Research-oriented curriculum: The course design focuses on preparing students for higher studies (Ph.D.) and research, making it ideal for those interested in pursuing advanced degrees.
* Good infrastructure: The campus offers modern facilities such as air-conditioned classrooms, libraries with Wi-Fi, and single-occupancy hostels with amenities like lifts, Wi-Fi, and furniture.
* Decent placements: Although the placement record might not be exceptional, students receive decent offers from companies like EdTech, Physics Wallah, and others, with average packages ranging from INR6-12 Lacs per annum.
* Festivals and extracurricular activities: The college hosts various festivals and has multiple societies for extracurricular activities, providing opportunities for students to develop their interests outside academics.

Cons:

* Limited industry connections: As mentioned by several students, the college receives mostly educational background companies, and industrial background companies rarely visit the campus.
* No placements in Chemistry department: Unfortunately, the college doesn't seem to focus on recruitment in the Chemistry department, resulting in limited placement opportunities for students in this field.
* High competition: With over 90% of students getting placed from the college, competition for limited slots can be intense.
* Average hostel food: Students reported that the hostel food was not great, especially for North Indians who had to adapt to the local cuisine.

In conclusion, while NIT Jamshedpur's M.Sc. programme has its strengths, such as excellent faculty and infrastructure, it may not be the best fit for everyone due to limitations in industry connections and placements. However, for those interested in pursuing higher studies or research, it could be a suitable option.

If you are just inclined towards decent placement, this would be a good college.
Placements: Only placements are available here. Till the end of the year, it will go around 90% placements in the CSE course. Placements are very good in ECE. Placements in electrical and other courses are decent. Students can expect a salary package of 6 LPA - 7 LPA if they are average among their branchmates, so they have to take care of it.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is very poor. NIT Jamshedpur has an open campus. There is a busy road surrounded by running vehicles. I hate this thing. They are constructing some hostels and playgrounds. The development process is in progress. The Internet facility is also very poor. In some rooms, the internet is available but many rooms do not have it.
Faculty: Exams are conducted every 2 months which include mid-semester and end-semester. Teachers are helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable, but students didn't study and got poor marks. Questions are asked from the past year only. The difficulty level is easy to moderate.
Other: There is no college life in our college. The campus is small. There is nothing in our college.

Faculty members are good. Placements are good, but one has to compromise with infrastructure.
Placements: The batch size of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering for placements is 120, and last year, we achieved 100% placement for all students. Top recruiters included Vedanta, ABG, and BlackRock. The highest salary package offered is 17 LPA, and both the median and average salary package offered is 9 LPA.
Infrastructure: Classrooms are very good with air conditioning, and a projector. The whole campus is Wi-Fi enabled. Medical facilities are also good. There is a dispensary for medical issues, and if the issue is not resolved then we have to go to the hospital. The amount invested in the hospital is refunded by the college.
Faculty: Faculty members are very supportive and helpful. They also give advice on what to do next in the future to get placed. They also help us with projects, and if we have any business ideas then we can go to the respected teacher, and they will guide us, which is truly valuable.
Other: If one is placement-oriented, then the NIT Jamshedpur is best.

Better placements than any other nits in this range.
Placements: 98% of students get placed. The highest package was 83 lakh, the average was 15 lakh, and the CSE was 26 lakh. Adobe, Amazon, Atlasssian, Flipkart, BNY, etc. About 40% of students got interns at BNY, Amazon, etc. SDE roles were offered. Off-campus placements also offered good.
Infrastructure: Facilities are not that good. The classroom is good. The library is old. The hostel facilities are not good. Food is okay. There are 3-4 canteens. Medical facilities are also good. Sports and games are also good. Infrastructure is not good. Almost every building is very old.
Faculty: Teachers are not helpful. Almost every professor is a Ph.D. holder. Teaching quality is good. The curriculum is not relevant. No, these don't make you industry-ready. Semester exams are easy in some semesters and tough in others. You can secure 8.5 cgpa easily in easy sem.
Other: I chose this course because of industry demand and placement. They should improve their course structure. They teach totally irrelevant things. Events are better. The surroundings are totally bad. For category students, there are many scholarships. And also for general three, there are some scholarships.

4Placements5Infrastructure4Faculty3Crowd & Campus Life2Value for Money
Teachers are not satisfactory.
Placements: There are different placements in department branches and courses, but overall placement is 80% and above. In the Physics Department, the highest salary package is 10 LPA and the lowest salary package is 5 LPA. Companies like Allen, Unacademy, PW, Aakash, etc., are among the recruiters. In edtech companies, there is almost zero percent internship, but a summer internship program is held for various Institutes of Physics, allowing students to go there and complete their internships in Physics, teaching, or data analysis.
Infrastructure: NIT Jamshedpur classrooms are spacious, well-maintained, and well-equipped. The entire campus is fully Wi-Fi enabled. Labs are located in the old building, but all lab equipment is available. Classrooms are fully air-conditioned and have Wi-Fi. The library is excellent, with all necessary facilities. Hostels are the best I have seen in any top-ranked college. The building is in great condition, and every student has their room. The food quality is also good, with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options served. The college canteen is reliable and offers good food. Every student has medical insurance worth 5 lakhs. There is a small clinic for minor problems, which is free of charge. For major issues, students are taken to the best hospital in the city, and all expenses are reimbursed. There are numerous sports events throughout the year. Different types of sports are played in the college, and a competitive league called Urja, similar to the Olympics, is held every year.
Faculty: All teachers are very qualified, but I can't say every teacher is knowledgeable. Only three teachers have sufficient knowledge of their subject, and rest are just a burden on the students. If you are going to be admission to this NIT, please do some research before making a decision. The teaching faculty is not good. The course curriculum is also not ideal. As a Physics student, I feel there should be a programming language included, but they don't have enough skilled faculty to teach it. The difficulty of the exam is moderate. Students can pass easily if they just follow the notes provided by the teachers. A 35% score is required to pass the examination.
Other: I chose Physics because I like this subject, but in this institute, students may feel like they made a big mistake. However, don’t panic. If students want to achieve something, focus on self-learning. I hope there will be good and smart teachers in the future because, after two years, no knowledgeable professors will remain as most are retiring. Only arrogant and overconfident teachers will be left. There is no scholarship offered. The campus is open, and anyone can enter without permission. Surroundings have nothing except villages, giving you the feeling of living in one. A cultural fest is held once every year.

Think placement think NIT Jamshedpur.
Placements: NIT Jamshedpur has an above 90% placement rate. Mechanical engineering has a 95% placement record every year. Many core companies visit NIT Jamshedpur for mechanical roles. CS has the highest placement rate and packages. The highest package is 85 lacs, and the lowest is 6 LPA.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of NIT Jamshedpur is up to the mark, neither better nor bad. The hostels here are the best thing about this college. They are very big and in good condition. A mess is available, and the food provided is also of good quality. The canteen is always open at night.
Faculty: Teachers here are quite helpful and responsive. They are good in their respective subjects and support students. The course curriculum is relevant and the most in demand in industry and also results in a good placement record. Semester exams are not very tough; one can clear them by studying two or three days before, as done by every engineer.
Other: The first reason I chose this college was my rank in JEE Main, and the second was the placement. The placement here is quite good and better than at the rest of the colleges. A practical approach should be implemented to make it more interesting. Extracurricular activities and sports events are organized frequently.

All About NIT Jamshedpur by a 2nd year student.
Placements: Placements are pretty decent here. The average package offered for this course was 25LPA in the previous year with the highest of 83 LPA. Top Recruiters were Atlassian, Amazon etc. 30% students got internships in Computer Science department in the above companies. The roles offered in Computer Science are that of software engineer and data analyst.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure is decent. The main lecture hall is awesome with all the facilities like Wi-Fi, projector, big classrooms and everything else. The hostels are nice with decent buildings. In this college, you get a single room from 2nd year onwards and a double sharing room in the first year.
Faculty: The faculty is similar to the other colleges. They don't care to teach, neither are the students interested in learning because the course structure is totally outdated and not useful. Their way of teaching is also horrible. The semester exams are not really tough, you can easily pass them with 1 week of efforts getting good grades.
