FMGE exam commonly known as the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) 2025 exam is conducted and organized by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS). How Many Attempts Are Allowed for the FMGE Exam?

No, it is mandatory for the candidate to be present when the FMGE Passing certificates are being issued. In the absence of the candidate, the authorities will not issue the Certificate. Hence applicants are advised to reach the Dwarka office address to collect the FMGE certificates withint time.
Q: How many attempts are permitted in FMGE?
There is no limit on the number of attempts a candidate can take to appear for the FMGE exam. NBEMS allows candidates to avail the medical license if they wish to practice medicine profession in India. Therefore, there is no limit or restriction on the FMGE attempts allowed for candidates.
However, in case a candidate has cleared the exam and has received the medical license, then the candidate will not be allowed to appear for the exam. The FMGE license stands valid for a lifetime and aspirants need to repeatedly appear for the exam to avail it.
Who is Eligible to Apply for the FMGE exam?

- The candidate must be an Indian national or an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI). Only such candidates are eligible to apply for the FMGE exam.
- Interested aspirants should possess a primary medical qualification, which is confirmed by the Indian Embassy concerned. In addition, the candidates will have to submit proof of primary medical qualification. If someone fails to submit the required documents within the stipulated time, he will not be considered eligible for the FMGE exam.
- The candidate should have obtained an ‘Eligibility Certificate’ from the National Medical Commission (or the erstwhile Medical Council of India).
- The result of the final examination for primary medical qualification will be declared online.
FMGE Exam – Exceptions for Candidates
A candidate seeking provisional or permanent registration in India shall not have to qualify for the Screening Test if he/she holds an Under Graduate medical qualification from Australia/Canada/New Zealand/United Kingdom/United States of America and the holder thereof has also been awarded a Post Graduate medical qualification in Australia/ Canada/New Zealand/ United Kingdom/United States of America and has been recognised for enrolment as a medical practitioner in that country.

About the Exam
FMGE December 2025 exam will be conducted in online mode (computer-based format). The medium of the examination will be English. No other language is allowed in which candidates can appear for the exam. Candidates will be evaluated based on 300 multiple-choice questions (Objective-type questions). There will be two shifts of the FMGE exam which will be held in a single day of 2 hours and 30 minutes each. Candidates can switch between the sections to attempt the questions. There is no sectional time limit to appear for the exam.
FMGE Marking Scheme
According to the FMGE exam pattern, all the questions in the FMGE question paper will have equal weightage. One mark will be awarded for every correct answer. No marks will be awarded/ deducted for incorrect answers. The examination will be conducted in two phases – Part A and Part B of 2 hours and 30 minutes each.
FMGE Pass Percentile
According to the FMGE guidelines which are released by NBEMS, a candidate needs to score at least 50% marks in the examination to qualify for the FMGE exam. Only those candidates will be entitled to get an FMGE certificate who pass the exam by securing the minimum qualifying marks.
