To be fair in preparing the NEET SS rank list, NBE has a tie-breaking mechanism for such situations. The protocol that is followed in case of a tie while preparing the result of NEET SS is as follows: Â
Candidates with fewer incorrect responses in the examination will be ranked higher than the others

Q: Â How is the NEET SS merit list generated?
According to the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), the exam conducting authority, the NEET SS merit is generated on the basis of marks obtained by the candidate and application of the prescribed tie breaking criteria. Equating/scaling and normalisation process is not applied, even though the exam is conducted in multiple days and slots, and for multiple subject or course groups.
Q: Â What is NEET SS tie-breaking criteria?
In case two or more candidates secure same score in NEET SS, NBEMS will apply the following criteria to break the tie.
- Candidate having greater number of correct responses in the question paper will be placed at a better merit position.
- Candidate having lesser number of negative responses in the question paper will be placed at a better merit position.
- Older candidate will be placed at a better merit position.
