The objective of IIT JAM 2025 chapter-wise weightage is to provide students with an idea of the relative importance of different chapters in the syllabus. This information can be used by students to prioritize their studies and focus on the topics that are most likely to be tested in the exam.

Q:   How many subjects are there in IIT JAM 2025 examination?

A:

There are 7 subjects in the IIT JAM 2025 examination:

* Biotechnology (BT)
* Chemistry (CY)
* Economics (EN)
* Geology (GG)
* Mathematical Statistics (MS)
* Mathematics (MA)
* Physics (PH)

Students can choose to appear for one or more subjects, depending on their interests and eligibility. The exam is conducted in a computer-based mode and consists of 60 questions for 100 marks.

Q:   What type of questions does Section B of IIT JAM exam have?

A:

JAM 2025 Examination will be conducted in SEVEN subjects, also referred to as Test Papers; Biotechnology (BT), Chemistry (CY), Economics (EN), Geology (GG), Mathematics (MA),  Mathematical Statistics (MS), and Physics (PH). The medium for all the Test Papers is English only.

JAM 2025 examination pattern is divoded in such a way that the exam will be conducted in the form of three sections ie., Section A, B and C.

Section - B contains a total of 10 Multiple Select Questions (MSQs) carrying two marks each. Each MSQ is similar to MCQ but with the difference that MSQ may have one or more than one correct choice (s) out of the four given choices. The candidate is awarded full credit only if all the correct answer (s) and no wrong answers are selected. Candidates can mark the answer (s) by clicking the choice (s). There is no negative marking or partial marking for MSQ.

Q:   What is the format of the IIT JAM exam, and what types of questions can candidates expect?

A:

The IIT JAM exam is a computer-based test (CBT) consisting of 60 questions for 100 marks. The exam is divided into three sections:

  • Section A: This section consists of 30 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) of 1 and 2 marks each.
  • Section B: This section consists of 10 multiple-select questions (MSQs) of 2 marks each.
  • Section C: This section consists of 20 numerical answer type (NAT) questions of 1 and 2 marks each.

Candidates can expect a variety of questions in the IIT JAM exam, covering the entire syllabus of the chosen subject. The questions are typically designed to test the candidate's conceptual understanding, problem-solving skills, and analytical abilities.

The chapter-wise weightage is based on the number of questions asked from each chapter in previous years' exams. However, it is important to note that the weightage can vary from year to year, so students should not rely solely on the weightage to determine their study plan. The chapter-wise weightage can also be used by students to identify their strengths and weaknesses. For example, if a student finds that they are weak in a particular chapter, they can spend more time studying that chapter.

To gain in-depth knowledge about subject-specific exam weightage and important topic details, students must read this article. Also while reading and doing JAM 2025 preparation, please note that the information provided below about the IIT JAM 2025 chapter-wise weightage is tentative and made as per the analysis of the previous year's examinations.

IIT JAM 2025 Biotechnology Exam Chapter- Wise Weightage

IIT JAM Biotechnology exam syllabus is divided in such a way that questions are asked from Biology, mathematics, physics and chemistry domains. The students who are preparing for the IIT JAM 2025 Biotechnology exam can check the subject-wise weightage below:

Q:   How many sections will be there in IIT JAM 2025 exam?

A:

There will be 3 sections in the IIT JAM 2025 exam:

  • Section A
  • Section B
  • Section C

Each section will have a different type of question and format, as described below:

Section A: This section will consist of 30 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) of 1 and 2 marks each.

Section B: This section will consist of 10 multiple-select questions (MSQs) of 2 marks each.

Section C: This section will consist of 20 numerical answer type (NAT) questions of 1 and 2 marks each.

Q:   Is the examination pattern same for all the IIT JAM 2025 exam subjects?

A:

IIT JAM is a computer-based test of three hours duration carrying 60 questions with total of 100 marks. The exam is conducted for seven subjects,  Physics, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Geology, Mathematics, Mathematical Statistics and Economics.

The IIT JAM 2025 examination pattern is same for all the seven subjects for which the examination is being conducted.  The questions are divided into three types, multiple-choice questions (MCQs), Multiple Select Questions (MSQs) and Numerical Answer Type (NAT). There is a differential marking scheme for each of these question types.

Q:   What are the other miscellaneous information about IIT JAM 2024 examination pattern?

A:

In all sections, questions not attempted will result in zero mark. There is no provision for partial marking. The candidates are required to select the answer (s) for MCQ and MSQ type questions using the mouse. The answer for NAT questions must be entered using a mouse on a virtual numeric keypad. The keyboard of the computer will be disabled.
There is a provision for using online virtual calculator. Candidates are not allowed to bring their own calculators.
A scribble pad will be provided for rough work. Candidates have to write their name and registration number before using it. The scribble pad has to be returned at the end of the examination. The examination will end automatically after the stipulated time. Candidates are required to adhere to the code of conduct specified in Annexure III (Code of Conduct).

Q:   What is the 6 months strategy for IIT JAM 2025 preparation?

A:

6-Month Strategy for IIT JAM 2025
With approximately 6 months to go for IIT JAM 2025, it's time to strategize your preparation. Here's a comprehensive plan to help you crack the exam:

1. Understand the Syllabus Thoroughly
Break it down: Divide the syllabus into manageable units.
Prioritize topics: Identify high-weightage topics and focus on them.
2. Create a Study Schedule
Time management: Allocate specific time slots for each subject.
Consistency: Stick to your schedule to maintain momentum.
3. Refer to Quality Study Material
Standard textbooks: Use recommended textbooks for a strong foundation.
Notes: Make concise notes for quick revision.
Online resources: Utilize online lectures, videos, and practice problems.
4. Practice Regularly
Solve problems: Practice a variety of problems to improve problem-solving skills.
Mock tests: Take regular mock tests to assess your preparation and identify areas for improvement.
Previous year papers: Analyze previous year papers to understand the exam pattern and difficulty level.

Q:   What are the key factors affecting IIT JAM ranks?

A:

There are several factors that can affect the relationship between marks and rank in IIT JAM:

  • Individual Score: This is the most crucial factor. Your overall score, combining marks from all three sections (A, B, and C) of the exam, is what directly determines your rank.
  • Number of Applicants: If there are more applicants in a particular year, the competition for seats increases. Even with a good score, you might end up with a lower rank compared to a year with fewer applicants.
  • Difficulty Level of the Exam: The overall difficulty of the IIT JAM exam can affect marks vs rank. A tougher exam might lead to lower overall scores, potentially inflating your rank even with a moderate score compared to an easier exam year.
  • Seat Availability: The number of seats available in the M.Sc. or Integrated M.Sc. programs you're interested in also plays a role. Fewer seats in a coveted program will lead to stiffer competition and potentially lower ranks for similar scores compared to programs with more seats.
  • Category Reservation: IIT JAM follows reservation policies for various categories. This means separate cutoffs and ranks might be determined for categories like Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), etc.
