KVPY 2020-21: Conducted by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, every year, KVPY is a national-level fellowship programme in Basic Science. Through this programme, the selected candidates are provided scholarships up to Pre-PhD level. It is aimed at encouraging students to take up research careers in Science.
The KVPY application forms 2020-21 have been released on the official website of KVPY. The registration window is open between until October 31, 2020. The KVPY exam 2020 is scheduled to take place on January 31, 2021. The admit cards will be released in the second week of January 2021.

The KVPY exam has three streams:
- SA: Students pursuing Science and currently in Class 11th
- SX: Students pursuing Science and currently in Class 12th
- SB: Students pursuing a programme in Basic Science and currently in the first year of graduation.
Candidates having an aptitude for scientific research, studying in Class 11 to 1st year of any undergraduate Programme in Basic Sciences namely BSc/BS/BStat/BMath/Int. MSc/MS in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology are considered for the selection process. The selection is divided into two parts— Aptitude Test and Interview. The aptitude test is conducted at various centres in the country. Based on the performance in the aptitude test, shortlisted students are called for an interview which is the final stage of the selection procedure. Both the aptitude test and interview marks are considered for receiving a fellowship.

Eligibility criteria for KVPY 2020
The eligibility criteria for KVPY has been revised due to COVID, as a one-time measure.
Given below is the revised eligibility criteria stream-wise for KVPY 2020:
KVPY Stream SA for Class 11
Due to the prevailing COVID-19 situation, as a one-time measure, students who have passed Class 10 Board Examination and eligible to enroll in Class 11 (Science Subjects) during the academic year 2020-21, are eligible to appear for the aptitude test. The student should produce a study certificate of Class 11 once they are selected as a provisional KVPY fellow. Moreover, the fellowship of the students selected under this stream will be activated only if they join for an undergraduate course in Basic Science (BSc/BS/BStat/BMath/ Int MSc/ Int MS ) in the academic year 2022-23 after having secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST & PWD) marks in aggregate in SCIENCE Subjects in the XII Standard /(+2) Board Examination. During the interim period of one year they will be invited for the National Science Camp (Vijyoshi) and their travel expenses and local hospitality will be met by KVPY.
KVPY Stream SX for Class 12
Students enrolled in Class 12 / (+2) (Science Subjects) during the academic year 2020–21 and aspiring to join undergraduate program in Basic Sciences (BSc/BS/BStat/B Math/ Int MSc/ Int. MS) for the session 2021–22 during the academic year having secured a minimum of 75% (65% for SC/ST & PWD) marks in aggregate in Mathematics and Science subjects in Class 10 Board Examination are eligible to appear for the aptitude test. The Fellowship of the students selected under this stream will be activated only if they join for an undergraduate course in Basic Science (BSc/BS/BStat/BMath/ Int MSc/ Int MS) in the academic year 2021-22 after having secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST & PWD) marks in aggregate in Science subjects in Class 12/(+2) Board Examination.
KVPY Stream SB for UG (Undergraduate)
Due to the prevailing COVID-19 situation, as a one-time measure, students who have passed Class 12 Board Examination and eligible to enroll in the 1st year of BSc./BS/BStat/BMath/ Int. M.Sc./ Int. M.S. during the academic year 2020–21 are eligible to appear for the aptitude test. The student should produce a study certificate of 1st year BSc/BS/BStat./BMath/ Int. MSc/ Int. MS once they are selected as a provisional KVPY fellow. Moreover, the fellowship of the students selected under this stream will be activated only if they join or have joined for an undergraduate course in Basic Science (BSc/BS/BStat/BMath/ Int MSc/ Int MS) in the academic year 2020-21 after having secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST & PWD) marks in aggregate in Science Subjects in 1st year of BSc/BS/BStat/B Math/Int MSc/Int MS.
KVPY Applications 2020
The release of KVPY application forms 2020-21 have begun on September 6, 2020. The application forms have been released on the official website of KVPY.
Candidates can fill up the application form by following the below-mentioned steps:
Steps to fill up KVPY application form 2020-21
- Visit the official website— kvpy.iisc.ernet.in
- Register by entering the class in which the candidate is currently studying, name, e-mail id, contact number, among other details
- Log in with the credentials sent and fill the details as asked
- Next, upload the images and documents in the application form
- Then, pay the application fee, which is Rs 1250 for the General/OBC category, while, for SC/ST it is Rs 625
- Students must then take a print out of the confirmation page and secure it for future purposes
Documents Required for KVPY 2020 Registration
Candidates must ensure that they have the following documents as they will be required while filling up the KVPY application form 2020:
- Valid Email ID and Mobile Number
- Scanned copies of photograph and signature
- Academic documents
- Scanned copy of caste (SC and ST) and medical certificate (for PWD) in pdf format
- Credit card, debit card, and net banking details
KVPY Selection Process 2020
KVPY fellowship follows a two-stage selection process:
- Stage 1: Aptitude Test
- Stage 2: Personal Interview
Aptitude Test
All the candidates who meet the eligibility requirements are called to appear for the KVPY Aptitude Test. The aptitude test is bilingual, i.e., it is conducted in both Hindi and English at different exam centres across the country. The KVPY aptitude test contains questions from Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. After the aptitude test is conducted, KVPY result is released along with the cut-off which is used for shortlisting aspirants for the interview.
Interview
Based on the candidate's performance in the aptitude test, all the shortlisted candidates are called to appear for a round of interview which is also the final stage of the selection process.
The combined performance of the KVPY aptitude test along with the interview forms the basis of the scholarship grant. However, no interviews will be conducted this year due to COVID-19 outbreak.
Syllabus and Exam Pattern
After successful KVPY registration 2020, candidates must go through the entire KVPY syllabus and exam pattern.
IISC does not prescribe any specific syllabus for KVPY aptitude test. However, since the fellowship is for the students of class 10th, 12th and first-year UG programme of B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S., so the students must prepare from the subjects of their respective courses.
Multiple-choice type questions are asked in the exam. There are 2 parts in every stream. In Part I, -0.25 marks are deducted for the incorrect answers. In Part II, for the incorrect answers, 0.5 marks are deducted.
KVPY Answer Key 2020
IISc will release the KVPY answer key 2020 on its official website along with the question papers. Students can cross-check their answers using the answer key and calculate their probable scores.
KVPY Admit Card 2020
All the candidates who successfully submit their application forms will be able to download the KVPY admit card 2020 through the official KVPY website using their login credentials. Students must carry their KVPY admit cards 2020 along with them on the day of the examination. The KVPY admit card 2020 will be released in the second week of January 2021.
KVPY Result 2020
The KVPY Result 2020 will be released on the official website of KVPY. The result will be released in the form of a merit list for each of the three streams- SA, SX, and SB. The marks of all the candidates who appeared for the Aptitude Test & Interview (as applicable) can be accessed through the official website by logging in with the application number and date of birth. Along with the result declaration, KVPY also releases the cutoff. KVPY cutoff is used for shortlisting aspirants for the second level of the exam, which is the interview.

Q. Can I take a computer-based test in Hindi?
A. Yes.
Q. What is the syllabus for the aptitude test?
A. There is no prescribed syllabus for the aptitude test. The aptitude test aims to test the understanding and analytical ability of the student than his/her factual knowledge. However, students must cover up the syllabus up to class X/XII/1st year of B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S., as applicable.
Q. Is it necessary that the students have to study all the four subjects i.e. Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics?
A. In the Stream-SA, all questions are compulsory (Science and Mathematics). In respect of the streams SB and SX, there will be four sections in Part I (Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics) and four sections in Part II (Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics). Candidates may answer any three of the four subjects in Part I and any two of the four subjects in Part II. In case, a candidate attempts more sections, best of three in Part I and best of two in Part II will be considered.
