Q:   What are the advantages of the CUET PG negative marking scheme?

A:

The CUET PG negative marking scheme aims to discourage random guessing and encourage thoughtful consideration of answers. Here's a breakdown of its potential advantages:

  • Reduced Guesswork: By deducting marks for incorrect answers, candidates are less likely to randomly guess, promoting a more accurate assessment of their knowledge.
  • Focus on Accuracy: The scheme incentivizes candidates to focus on answering questions they are confident about, rather than attempting all questions regardless of their understanding.
  • Fairer Competition: Negative marking can create a more level playing field by reducing the impact of lucky guesses and emphasizing genuine understanding of the subject matter.
  • Strategic Decision-Making: It encourages candidates to develop strategic test-taking skills, such as identifying and skipping questions they are unsure about.

Q:   What are the disadvantages of CUET PG negative marking scheme?

A:

The CUET PG negative marking scheme, while aiming to reduce guesswork and promote accuracy, also has some potential disadvantages:

  • Increased Exam Anxiety: The fear of losing marks for incorrect answers can significantly increase exam anxiety among candidates, potentially hindering their performance.
  • Disadvantage for Less Confident Candidates: Candidates who are less confident or prone to making minor errors may be disproportionately penalized, even if they have a good overall understanding of the subject matter.
  • Focus on Avoiding Mistakes: The emphasis on avoiding negative marks can shift the focus from demonstrating knowledge to simply minimizing errors, potentially discouraging deeper learning and critical thinking.
  • Unfairness in Certain Situations: In some cases, negative marking may be perceived as unfair, such as when candidates are faced with ambiguous questions or unexpected twists in the exam format.

CUET PG 2025 Exam Duration

With the change in the CUET PG exam pattern (2025), the total duration of the exam has also changed. Earlier the maximum time or stipulated time for the candidates to attend the CUET PG exam was 105 minutes. However, this year the exam authority has reduced the exam timing, which is now 90 minutes or 1 hour 30 minutes.

The implementation of the new Common University Entrance Test (CUET) format has brought significant changes to the PG exam, including a revised exam duration. This change has stirred up discussions amongst students and educators, prompting questions about its potential effects. So, let's delve into the new pattern and analyze its impact on the CUET PG exam duration.

Impact of the Changes on Exam Duration:

Positives:

  • Increased Efficiency: The reduced duration and question count could potentially improve test-taking efficiency. With fewer questions to tackle, candidates might spend less time reading each question and analyzing answers, leading to faster completion.
  • Reduced Pressure: For some students, the shortened exam might alleviate pressure and anxiety associated with longer tests. This could contribute to calmer test-taking environments and potentially fairer evaluations.
  • Focus on Quality: With fewer questions, the focus might shift towards quality over quantity. Questions can be designed to be more complex and thought-provoking, potentially testing deeper understanding rather than knowledge recall.

Q:   Does the change in the CUET PG 2025 exam duration good for the test takers?

A:

The change in the CUET PG 2025 exam duration from 105 minutes to 90 minutes is a significant one. Here's a breakdown of its potential impact on test-takers:

Potential Benefits:

  • Increased Pressure: The shorter duration could force candidates to prioritize and strategize their time more effectively, potentially leading to better performance for those who can manage time well.
  • Reduced Fatigue: A shorter exam might reduce mental fatigue for some candidates, allowing them to maintain focus and concentration throughout the test.
  • Alignment with Industry Standards: Many professional exams and real-world scenarios involve time constraints. This change could better prepare candidates for such situations.

The schedule was organized in a way that allowed candidates to appear for the CUET PG exam for their chosen course at the designated time.
