CUSAT admission to BTech course is based on CUSAT CAT score. The university also conducts a Lateral Entry Test (LET) to select candidates for BTech (LE) courses. LET is a three-hour test including 200 objective-type questions designed to test proficency in English, Mathematics, Engineering Mechanics, Engineering Graphics and General Engineering.

The university selects candidates for BTech (PT) courses based on merit in the last qualifying exam and admission test conducted by the department. CUSAT also considers the number of years of experience of candidates after obtaining the diploma.

While SEBC students from Kerala State (non-creamy layer category) are entitled toa 5% relaxation in qualifying exam scores, the Kerala Scheduled Caste (KSC) and Kerala Scheduled Tribe (KST) populations simply need pass marks.
