Frequently Asked Questions

Q:   How can I get into JMI for BA or BA (Hons)?

A:

Candidates seeking admission to Jamia Millia Islamia for BA must have passed Class 12 or SSC with a minimum aggregate ranging from 40-50%. The passing percentage is different for different specialisations offered in the BA programme. Admission to Jamia Millia Islamia for BA and BA (Hons) is subject to either CUET (conducted by NTA) or JMI entrance exam. Till 2021, admission was subject to the JMI entrance exam across all specialisations. Review of Jamia Millia Islamia [JMI].
Placements: I am very satisfied with the placements of JMI. It can accomodate 50 students in a single batch in a year. I am very satisfied not because it's a dream college for many but also with the placements provided by this college. Many companies visit this college and offer jobs to many students. The top-rated posts offered were teacher, lecturer, journalist etc.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of this college is really good. You can go to libraries whenever you want. There is a huge campus where students can do anything they feel like. You can enhance your personal abilities. Canteens are available, which provide food of good quality.
Faculty: The teachers are fully qualified and knowledgeable enough to guide the students perfectly. They are very skilled and teach students in an easy way. The course curriculum is relevant, and the passing percentage is 28%. Every subject is explained briefly and in a manner that students can grasp these things easily, and all the important things are taught here.
Other: Our college shares a huge campus and offers a range of courses. Due to this, many events and fests are conducted to enhance your resume and personality. I recommend considering it as an option. Honours in history is amazing, and I am fully satisfied with this course.

Good infrastructure, facilities, faculty members, and curriculum.
Placements: Placement opportunities for students graduating in history are very less. There were no placements for our batch. I am not saying that the companies did not visit. The companies provide placements for the whole humanities department which includes English, Hindi, Persian, Arabic, etc., courses, so it becomes difficult to crack the interviews, and the salaries offered are also not very high.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the college is very good. The classrooms are big with wide windows, and the campus is very big and beautiful. The library is also very big and good. There are two libraries; one is in our department, and the other is on the main campus. You can find many canteens on the campus, and each canteen has its own specialisation. The hygiene level of canteens is also good, and the food is available at low prices. Hostel rooms are big, and 2 or 3 students share one room. JMI has its own hospital, and its services are free for regular students. There is a sports complex for those who want to play games.
Faculty: Teachers in the history department are highly qualified and knowledgeable. Teachers are very helpful, and you can meet them anytime. In the class, they don't just give lectures, but they also try to discuss the topic like what we think about it, and they try to make us think. The curriculum is very well-designed and is according to the level of students. As a student of history, you should know the history of India as well as the world, and the curriculum fulfills this requirement. Overall, the curriculum is nice.

Good infrastructure and facilities.
Placements: As I am reviewing arts subjects, there is no question of placement. Although the faculties are good, sometimes they appoint PhD students to teach who are not up to the par, but they are removed as the faculties are again available, so it is overall good.
Infrastructure: Library facilities are very good, with various books available. Hostel facilities are also good; hostel fees are considerably high, but the campuses are nice, and the hostels are good. Food quality is average, but breakfast is not enough, so overall, it's good.
Faculty: The faculty is overall good, and exams are conducted at an above-average level. Assessments are valued, but sometimes they give late assignments and are often late in giving results, so it is not up to par in every dynamic, but it's good in overall condition and better than many.
Other: Events, fests, campus crowd, connectivity, campus surroundings, scholarships, and extracurricular activities are all available.

Department of History and Culture Studies.
Placements: Placement is solely based on the performance of an individual. No university guarantees about the placements. Although the university has its own campus placement cell which is highly active in bridging the gap between the companies and the students.
Infrastructure: Campus full coverage of high sped Wi-Fi. You can connect it your device from any corner of the campus in the university. The department building and the classrooms highly furnished and facilities like cold and clean drinking water and separate washrooms for both girls and boys are easily accessible for the students.
Faculty: Highly talented and expert faculty members are there for regular classes. They are expertise of their field of study and play role of backbone of the department. All the facilities are approachable enough, they keen to teach both inside the classroom as well as outside it. They provide their every possible support to the welfare of their students.

Good placements, awesome infrastructure with good faculty and with very low fee structure.
Placements: We have a batch of 60 students who are pursuing B.A. history hons. Our course have no placement opportunities but there were people who did internships in various museums in Delhi while some students did their internships in Journalism field. Internshala helped us achieving that. A lot of people in our seniors' batch got selected in Masters of history programme in JNU, Mass communication programme of Jamia Millia Islamia and IIMC. Some cleared Bank PO /SSC exams and others selected in other central universities for doing B.Ed. And few bunch of students appeared for CAT. In short, all students were successfully placed without any assistance from University Placement cell.
Infrastructure: Jamia Millia Islamia university is a university campus with area span of more than 200 acres. There is a 2 storey Central library in GATE no 7 called Zakir Hussan Library and every dept have its own library as well. Books are issued for 2 weeks with maximum limit of 4 books at a time. Medical facilities are above average. In GATE no 4, there is M.A. Ansari Health centre where University students can get treatment free of cost. Sports facilities are top notch. In GATE no 2, there is Sports complex of Jamia Millia where all types of outdoor and indoor game facilities are available. Infrastructure of Classrooms are above average. Good ventilation. And seminar rooms are equipped with AC. Hostel rooms are well maintained with capacity of 1200 boys and 1000 girls. I did not faced any infrastructure related issue in college.
Faculty: All the teachers have PhDs in their respective fields and hail from prestigious universities. Teaching quality is above average but few professors were top notch. Teaching method was ordinary but sometimes seminar rooms were used to teach the practical aspects of subjects. Student-faculty ratio was 60:1. In every 3 months, our seniors used to take us to sightseeing of historical places of Delhi where some faculty used to accompny us. Curriculum was a bit outdated but still helped us broadening our historical perspective.
Other: In the months from February -, March, each department organize it's own Department fest. And there is a Main fest as well, " MIRAAS" organized in the month of March. And Talemi mela in the month of October. Students in Jamia Millia hail from all parts of India thus university have strong pool of diversity. But majority Students are muslims. University is well connected to both DTC and Metro. There is Jamia Millia Islamia metro station and bus stop which can take us to any part of Delhi. There are various scholarships for minority students and Women. There are Debate club, "BOL", Literary Club, Drama Club and various other clubs for extra curricular activities.

Q:   Is Jamia Millia Islamia good for M.Com?

A:
{Source: M.Com students & alumni}

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) - Is it Good for M.Com?

Based on reviews from current students and alumni, here's what they say:

* Placement Record: While the college claims to have a good placement record, the reality seems to be different. According to students, only about 20% of students get placed, with the highest package offered being INR5.5 LPA.
* Recruiters: Companies like Samsung, Kotak Mahindra, DMI Housing Finance, and Acxiom visit the campus for placements, but the number of recruiters is relatively small.
* Course Curriculum: The M.Com course is well-structured and covers finance, accounting, and purchasing, making students industry-ready.
* Teaching Quality: Some students feel that the teaching quality could improve, while others appreciate the support and guidance received from faculty members.
* Infrastructure: The college has a beautiful campus with modern infrastructure, including a large library, laboratories, and a sports complex.
* Scholarships: JMI offers scholarships to deserving students, including the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).

In conclusion, while Jamia Millia Islamia has its strengths, particularly in terms of infrastructure and course structure, the placement record for M.Com appears to be inconsistent. Prospective students should weigh these factors carefully before deciding whether JMI is the right fit for them.

Q:   Is BBA at Jamia Millia Islamia a good choice?

A:
{Source: BBA students & alumni}

Based on the information provided, I would say that studying BBA at Jamia Millia Islamia can be a good choice. Here's why:

* Good reputation: Jamia Millia Islamia is a reputed institution, ranked within the top 15 universities according to the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking.
* Well-qualified faculty: The faculty members are well-qualified, experienced, and knowledgeable, providing good teaching quality.
* Relevant curriculum: The course curriculum is relevant, covering all aspects of business administration, making students industry-ready.
* Placements: Despite initial concerns about placements, the majority of students (around 90%) get placed in well-known companies, including top recruiters like TCS, Wipro, KPMG, ICICI, and Mahindra. The average salary package offered is around 4-5 LPA, with some students receiving even higher packages.
* Infrastructure: The campus infrastructure is good, with modern facilities like air-conditioned lecture theaters, state-of-the-art libraries, and well-maintained hostels.
* Campus life: The campus offers a range of extracurricular activities, sports facilities, and cultural events, creating a vibrant campus life.

However, there are some areas for improvement, such as the limited research opportunities and the need for students to take initiative to find jobs.

Overall, while Jamia Millia Islamia may not offer the perfect education, it seems to be a good option for those interested in pursuing a career in business administration.
