Academics and Faculty

* The faculty members are generally considered helpful, experienced, and knowledgeable in their respective fields.
* The course curriculum is relevant and covers both theoretical and practical aspects of the subject.
* Some students mentioned that the professors could be more punctual and humble.

Infrastructure and Facilities

* The university has modern facilities, including Wi-Fi, libraries, and well-equipped labs.
* The campus is Wi-Fi enabled, and the libraries have a wide range of book collections.
* However, some students pointed out that the hostel facilities could be improved.

Career Prospects and Placements

* Unfortunately, placements for M.Sc. students are limited, especially in the biophysics, biochemistry, and microbiology departments.
* Most students reported having to rely on self-initiated efforts to secure internships or employment opportunities.
* Some companies may visit the campus for recruitments, but these are rare.

I am happy with our college faculty members, campus life, friendly people and a clean city.
Placements: There is not much scope in our college for placements after masters in mathematics. Students opt for it to become a researcher in mathematics or a professor or something. So companies don't visit here for recruitment. However, students from our course get internships for data analysing.
Infrastructure: Facilities and infrastructure of our university are great. Our college provides free Wi-Fi facility for students and well-furnished classrooms. It also provides a separate library for mathematics, along with another library for the whole university students. The quality of the facilities provided in the hostel is great, and the food served here is fantastic. This college worth for every penny you pay. There is a huge sports ground in the university only.
Faculty: Teachers in our college are very helpful, friendly, qualified and knowledgeable. They teach you the subject in-depth, and their teaching quality is remarkable. They guide you with everything, like which books you should prefer, what books are helpful and in many things. The course curriculum is completely relevant.
Other: I chose this course because I like maths, so I want to study it further also. I did my graduation in mathematics, and now I am pursuing masters here. Department fests organised here are not much popular, but the university organises a fest every year on a huge scale. Students on this campus are almost from Punjabi people, and they are friendly, so they connect well. There's a huge campus to roam around. NBHM provides you with a scholarship around Rs. 6,000-7,000 per month on the basis of the test they conduct.

    Dissatisfied with the department
Placements: Placements were horrible as there were no placement drives for the department. Zero percent students were placed. No companies came except some small coaching centers. There were no internship programmes in our department. The students who got placed arranged them on their own.
Infrastructure: The Wi-Fi facility was not present at our time. Classrooms and the library were average. No up to date material was available in the library and it only had old edition books. No sports facilities were there particularly in the department, though at the university level, they were present. The department is not having a canteen of its own, though we had a centralized canteen and a student center. The food quality was good. The infrastructure was average. Chairs were not in good condition and sometimes, classrooms were not available for certain classes.
Faculty: The faculty team was qualified but was not knowledgeable. The curriculum needs to be revised and updated. Lecturers used to teach old edition books and the syllabus was not at all according to the syllabus needed for UGC. They were not fully cooperative and were biased. We did not get any industry exposure.

Good faculty but only for those who want to go into research work, PhD or post PhD.
Placements: Being a course relating to the science stream, there were not many options for campus placements. Only two or three companies came for recruitment for the post of teachers. Maximum package offered was around 6 LPA by only one institute. There was no criterion of internships as a part of the curriculum.
Infrastructure: The facilities were average just like any government institute. Computer labs were average and classrooms were also fine. Food available was good as a student's centre is there. The hostels were also fine with good food services. No infrastructure related issues were there.
Faculty: Faculty members were good and helpful when needed, qualified and knowledgeable. Their teaching methods were fairly good for those really interested in research work. Student-faculty ratio was 1:40. No industry exposure was there. The curriculum was useful only to those who are really interested in research work.

    Students also asked

Q:   Is M.A. at Panjab University worth the investment?

    A:
    {Source: M.A. students & alumni}

After analyzing the feedback from current students and alumni, here's a summary of the pros and cons:

    Pros:

    * Good faculty: Many students praised the professors' qualifications, knowledge, and approachability.
    * Well-structured course curriculum: The curriculum is relevant, and students appreciate the theoretical foundations.
    * Infrastructure and amenities: The campus is well-maintained, with decent facilities, including a library, gym, and recreational spaces.
    * Exposure to various activities: The university offers various extracurricular activities, festivals, and events, allowing students to explore their interests.

    Cons:

    * Placement record: The placement rate is relatively low, and many students rely on self-effort or pursuing higher education (e.g., NET or Ph.D.) for career advancement.
    * Limited industry connections: The university's ties with industries seem limited, resulting in fewer job opportunities for students.
    * Research-oriented internships: While some internships are available, they tend to be research-focused rather than corporate-driven, limiting practical experience.
    * Academic intensity: Some students felt that the course load was too heavy, with little scope for hands-on learning or industry application.

In conclusion, whether M.A. at Panjab University is worth the investment depends on individual goals and expectations. For those seeking a strong academic foundation and theoretical knowledge, the university seems suitable. However, for those looking for direct industry exposure, job guarantees, or extensive career opportunities, they may need to supplement their degree with additional efforts or consider alternative options.

Recommendation: If you're considering the M.A. programme at Panjab University, weigh the pros and cons carefully, focusing on your academic and career aspirations. Consider networking with faculty and peers, exploring extracurricular activities, and developing transferable skills to enhance your prospects.

The procedure is different for different university. Most of the processing is online. Some universities are taking admission by conducting admission test and some of them take admission by counseling process . The counseling process should depend on your percentage of math in B.Sc. Good Luck!!
