Q:   How successful is the placement cell in securing jobs for B.Sc. students at Panjab University?

A:
{Source: B.Sc. students & alumni}

Success of Placement Cell in Securing Jobs for B.Sc. Students

Based on the feedback provided by students and alumni, it appears that the placement cell in the Department of Microbiology at Panjab University is not very effective in securing jobs for B.Sc. students.

Here's what the students have said:

* "According to our seniors, the placement cell of the Science department is not very good." (Student)
* "There is no such placement cell in the department. Professors can help you in the placements but all you have to do by yourself." (Alumni)
* "No student has been placed in microbiology department after bachelors. there's no placement cell known as Avsar, which provides placements in various departments." (Alumni)
* "Placements especially after B.Sc. is very low and placement is only available in coaching industries like Aakash, Allen and Byjus." (Student)

Overall, the students' feedback suggests that the placement cell at Panjab University may not be providing adequate support to its B.Sc. students in securing employment after graduation.

B.Sc. in Nursing - Batch of 2027
Offered by GMCH Chandigarh - Government Medical College and Hospital
4.2

Short review of GMCH college for nursing.
Placements: I am from batch 2023 B.Sc. Nursing (currently in second year, 3rd sem nursing). Almost everyone, but placement doesn’t depend upon the college as there is no direct placement. Placement depends upon how good you studied in your course. The highest – many of the students cleared NCLEX from our college. The lowest – can’t say anything. Generally, students prefer to work in AIIMS. Yes, everyone gets a chance for an internship.
Infrastructure: For nursing, it is very poor. Like, only 2 lecture theatres in college and clinical hours are too much. The hostel is combined with the two lecture theatres, which is awful. For attending external subjects, we have to go to E block many times, which is really frustrating. College timing is 9 to 5. No Wi-Fi for students. The library is too good (2 libraries in college). No canteen in college, but in E block of the hospital, there are lots of canteens.
Faculty: Yes, teachers are very helpful, and semester exams are moderately difficult. Just need 50 percent to pass the exam. Almost everyone gets passed in this college. But questions are very repetitive. External classes are just a waste of time; you will be unable to understand a single external lecture as they are very fast and complete whole chapters in 2 days, especially anatomy.
Other: Well, fees – 10,000 for the first year (5,000 admission fee + tuition fees). The total is 25,000 for exams, two in a year (12.5k + 12.5k). Hostel fees 25,000, and mess 3,400 per 25 days.

Average college in this fee.
Placements: I scored 70% in the 12th examination and got admission to B.Sc., and the top recruiting company is Dell only in our college. Other companies' packages are small. There is no guarantee of placement, and no placement program has been seen this year till now.
Infrastructure: Hostel life was good, and one room was shared by two people. The fee for the hostel was 19,000 yearly, and a single room sharing costs more. Labs were well-built in college, and canteen food was not that impressive. The mess food was in the worst condition, I would say.
Faculty: Teaching staff was very bad, not at all good. Their study pattern was very different, and there was no time management. They came late and left early every day. The semester exams were of average difficulty, not that much hard. I recommend not to take admission here if you are doing B.Sc.

This college is good for someone having a family business and does not want to do academic work.
Placements: Placements are not conducted here. It is a degree course. After this course, a lot of my classmates opted for off-campus placements. Some students got clerical jobs and some became medical representatives. Companies do not visit the college to recruit students. Some students cleared government jobs in the Punjab police. The top role offered in my course is to do an M.Sc and then become a teacher.
Infrastructure: Classrooms are nice and big. The computer lab is there but I never used it. Chemistry labs are there. Wi-Fi is not available for students. The hostel facility is good. Food is good in a mess, and it is healthy. Medical facilities are not available as I know from my 3 years of course. Sports options are there.
Faculty: Teachers are qualified to teach students. The course is oriented according to Punjab University Chandigarh. I do not think the course curriculum makes students industry-ready. It just gives a degree so that students can apply for government jobs or any job in the industry. Semester exams are easy, and students can crack studying a week before exams. The pass percentage is 70-80% and the dropout percentage is 40%.
Other: I suggest students do not opt for the degree course if they are unsure what they want to do. However, students can do some professional courses like engineering, law, MBBS, and B.Pharma so that they get knowledge to excel in life.

Average college in terms of placement and degree.
Placements: Students with above 65 percent in 12th got admission to this college. I don’t know about the packages offered in our course, but the top recruiting companies in our college include Dell and many others.
Infrastructure: The library was good enough for studying, with proper books available for every subject. There was proper support for books required. Labs were well-built for practicals, with a capacity of 40-50 students at once. There were 5-6 practical labs. However, the internet was the worst in our college.
Faculty: The teaching quality of the teachers was average or below. Some subject classes were held only once a week. More than teachers, we learned from our friend circle. Examinations took place in two parts: the main semester exams and other subsidiary exams, which were for preparation purposes only and did not matter much.
Other: Canteen food needs to be improved.

In 2025, more and better placements, students work harder.
Placements: 50% of students in this course. The companies came to the college for interviews, and many students were doing jobs. Good income sources, many companies like students' work, good experience. Many parents of students got excellent internships and they earned.
Infrastructure: All kinds of facilities, the classrooms are also good, Wi-Fi, classrooms, labs, library are always excellent, all facilities available in each lab, the hostel is also good and the food and drinks are also very good. Sports are always excellent. Enjoy more.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful, have good responses, andare very knowledgeable, with excellent teaching quality. All students also pass in all semesters. No difficulties in the semester. All students pass with 60/70 % marks because teachers have good teaching skills.
Other: Because I'm interested, that’s why I chose this course, good scholarship, fashion design course is very interesting and creative, and I observed more and more creativity, in designing.

It's all about campus, course, curriculum.
Placements: There is no placement in the college for biotechnology students. If we want, then we have to apply off-campus. But if we want to apply off-campus, we can start with internships at research institutions so that we have more experience in our CVs before joining a job.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure needs to be improved. There is no Wi-Fi for college students. ACs should be there in the classroom, as it gets really hot in the summer. I didn't opt for a hostel, but as far as I know, hostel rooms and infrastructure are good enough, and it is close to the college as well.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful and have Ph.D. degrees in specific fields. Teaching quality is also good. The curriculum is good. You will learn about immunology, microbiology, genetic engineering, etc. There are, in total, six semesters and six final exams you have to take.
Other: I opted for a B.Sc. in biotechnology, and the good thing is that it is practical. I think the syllabus needs to be improved, and practical knowledge should be increased. The college organizes festivals and events as well.
