IIT Kharagpur - The gem of the Indian education.
Placements: The placements were very good as most of the seniors, and many in our batch had gotten PPO from the companies they had interned with. Also, CS, EC and EE departments had very good companies coming for the recruitment in the first week itself, and most of the batch of these 3 departments, were already placed. Roles offered were mainly of the software engineers, with an average salary in CS of around Rs. 12 lakhs, with EC and EE being around Rs. 8-10 lakhs. The placement cell is the most effective that I have seen, as they manage the whole process very smoothly and effectively.
Infrastructure: The IIT-Kharagpur campus is huge, with more than 10-15 department buildings, a modern sports facilities such as an Olympic size swimming pool, football stadiums, indoor badminton, squash, TT tables, and so on. Any game that you want to play, you will find a facility to play it in, here. The campus is well connected with Wi-Fi, and all floors in all Hostels have their own Wi-Fi networks, with a very good internet speeds. The only drawback is its medical facility with a hospital which is in dire need of renovation, new staff, new facilities and better doctors The labs are in the state-of-the-art, and the classrooms are huge. Although the hostel mess food quality is barely matched with the needed, there are numerous food joints on the campus to satisfy one's hunger pangs. The hostels themselves are in need of renovation, with a few new ones coming up here and there.
Faculty: Some teachers in this place are exceptionally good, top of their field, and it's just a pleasure to listen to their lectures, Whom you will aspire to be when you graduate from this place. And then there are some who make your life miserable just for the sake of it. But overall, I really find the teachers in IIT-Kgp to be very good. Everyone has a different teaching methodology, and some would just mesmerise you with their lecture-giving prowess. Typically, it's 1:30/40 faculty/student ratio. Industrial exposure is entirely on the students, as they have 3 months every summer to try out for the Internships. IIT-Kgp gives a good jump-start to that and saying that you are a student at one of the top institutes in the country and is bound to attract companies.
Other: There are 2 fests hosted on the campus every year. One is Kshitij, which is the largest techno-management fest in all of Asia. It is a 3-day affair, with many events, competitions, guest lectures (Including those from Nobel laureates), and students coming in to participate from all across the country. The other one is the Spring Fest, which is also a 3-day event, which is a cultural fest of the college. It is also very lively and full of fun activities, food stalls and a lot of the hustle and bustle.
