Real good experience from people to tech.
Placements: The placement record for our course is excellent, with around 85-90% of students getting placed. The highest package for my course in 2023 was 40 lakhs per annum, the lowest was 7.5 lakhs per annum, and the average package is 17 lakhs per annum. The top companies that recruit for my course are Keppel Offshore and Marine, Schlumberger, Shell, and Reliance Offshore. The top roles offered are marine engineers and offshore engineers.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure at my college is really good. We have new classrooms for department-specific classes that are equipped with air conditioning and super-fast Wi-Fi. The libraries are also very good. The hostel facilities are also very good and include all necessary items, a pantry, laundry, sports facilities, and more. The quality of the food in the mess is mostly good. The sports and medical facilities, along with the canteens, are top-notch.
Faculty: The core opportunities provided by this course are good. The course curriculum is very relevant, and the teachers are highly qualified, helpful, and easily approachable. The teaching quality is very good, and the semester exams are quite balanced with a high pass percentage of around 90%.
Other: I chose this course because it is a really good course for people who has interest in marine life. Also, this course was available in this top institute so that's why I chose this course. Some things I wish should improve are more practical knowledge. All types of events are conducted throughout the 4 years and the crowd is super awesome. The co-curricular activities offered are great

Our college has excellent quality, resources, opportunities and infrastructure.
Placements: IIT provides the finest opportunities and resources. It depends on where you focus. In previous years, many students were placed. Only a few companies visit our campus. Internships and placements are guaranteed. One of the major problems our head of department told us about is that students in this branch don't take things seriously after getting placed and leave the company.
Infrastructure: Our department infrastructure is well suited for it. Our classes are equipped with projectors and all the other things that are needed. Wi-Fi is always good in all classrooms. The air-conditioning and fans are working properly. There is a central library with a huge number of books and five floors in it. It is very good, accessible, and calm. Our college hostels are good. In some hostels, three students share a room, while others have two, and some are single. Students here are very friendly and caring. Seniors are always helpful, but we have to approach them. They don't have time to interact with juniors.
Faculty: Our teachers are very knowledgeable, talented, and excellent in their fields. They expect more from students. If you do well and ask for help at any point during the course, they will appreciate it and assist you. The course curriculum is relevant. We are offered around 50% of elective courses.
Other: The campus life is excellent. When I go anywhere and return to campus, it seems like the best place. I didn't know about the course when I was in 12th grade. Sometimes, a communication gap occurs between students and faculty members. Students don't seek out help, and faculty members are not responsible for it. Our college organises events and festivals. The campus crowd is good. It is up to us to decide where we want to participate and what we want to apply for.

IIT Madras is NIRF#1 Rank college in india. It is a very beautiful green campus .
Placements: Placement is not a problem in IIT Madras. For Naval architecture and Ocean Engineering course, many students chose software related jobs. Average package offered is 10 LPA. There are many students who placed in cochin shipyard limited and other foreign companies.
Infrastructure: Hostel is very good. But nowadays they changed single room to double sharing and double sharing to triple sharing. Do there is small problem. But the rooms are enough. They are providing LAN. So we have no problem with internet access. There we have lift facilities and filtered (hot, cool, normal) drinking water in each section of each floor.
Faculty: It is very important to attend every classes if you want to score a high CGPA. You minimum needed 85% attendance to write exam. You CGPA will be calculated normally based on two quizzes and end sem exam. Some professors have different method for calculating total CGPA .
Other: There are many events in IITM. Shastra and saarang are two fests of IITM. IITM provides fee waiver for economically weaker students .

Review of IIT Madras, Department of Ocean Engineering.
Placements: Placements actually have different opinions. Even though people of this department learn core, most of them are interested in the non-core sector like consultancy, data analytics, coding, banking, and UPSC, etc. Most of them want to pursue masters in the non-core field. Around 85% of the students are placed every year. The college offer freedom to students to choose their career which is excellent. Around 70% of students got internships. Internships are mandatory for students in our department. If you are more interested in the core sector, it would help you.
Infrastructure: There are 2 banks in our institute, i.e., SBI, and Canara, and people often prefer SBI. There are two SBI ATMs; one is near Taramani, and the other one is near bank premises. There is a special ATM for students in the hostel management office. The college provides bus transportation facilities, and a bus is available every 15 minutes. It is the most beautiful campus. You can find colourful flora and fauna, black bucks, deers, and monkeys. There are 2 guesthouses. There are 2 schools on the campus. There are 2 shopping centres where you can find everything you need. Phoenix Mall is at a walkable distance. There is an open-air stadium where every Saturday a movie screening is done. There is a student activity centre for everything which organises fests and events. The college has around 30 clubs which helps you to find your own interests and develop in them. There are 3 temples on the campus. Ours is basically a mini-society of intellectuals. Even some Catholic mass meetings are conducted just outside NCC buildings. The entire campus is enabled with free Wi-Fi facility. There are world-class libraries, classrooms, and hostels. Regarding sports, you can find grounds, coaches, and many more amenities required to play. The college provides a world class gym and swimming pool for fitness. The college provides the best facilities in entire India. Hostel rooms were excellent but not air-conditioned, except that you can find everything as good. The food served in the mess is the best food of all IITs. I am not facing any issues regarding the infrastructure of the college.
Faculty: Faculty members at IITs are the best. Professors are more inclined towards their research, rather than classes. Our course curriculum is the best to explore. We have around 40% electives which you can choose to study. You will get a good industrial exposure as IIT Madras is an institute of national importance. Ocean engineering department in IIT Madras was incredible, and you will like it.

IIT, Madras is the top-ranked engineering college by NIRF.
Placements: The college is good, and it has 100% placement record. The college provides very good placement opportunities in all the major domains including finance, IT, etc. The placement office works hard to ensure that everyone gets placed. There are some Marque firms which exclusively recruit the students from IIT, Madras.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the college is great with a well-equipped library and a sports complex. It is one of the few IITs which has an Olympic-size swimming pool. The classrooms are air-conditioned and well-maintained. The library has all the necessary subscriptions.
Faculty: The faculty members are well-qualified and knowledgeable. They teach us very well. The course curriculum is appropriate and is regularly updated. The course followed is world-class. Many guest lecturers visit the college, which raises the scope of learning.
Other: The college organises many cultural, technical and departmental fests.

Q:   How can I get admission in IIT Madras?

A:

To seek admission to the BTech programme offered at IIT Madras, candidates need to visit the official website of the National Testing Agency (NTA) and fill out the application form in online mode for JEE Main. For other courses such as MSc, MTech, BS-MS (Dual Degree) etc., candidates must visit the official website of respective national-level entrance exam conducting bodies and fill out the application form in online mode. IIT Madras admission to most of the courses is entrance-based. For detailed information around IIT Madras course admission, click here.

Q:   Can we join IIT Madras without JEE?

A:

Yes, there are many other courses for which the selection criteria are different and the prescribed entrance exam is also other than JEE-Main and JEE-Advanced. Below are some of the courses offered at IIT Madras along with their eligibility criteria and entrance exam:

  • MTech: IIT Madras offers a two-year full-time M.Tech programme across various specialisations. The institute inducts candidates for the M.Tech programmes based on valid GATE scores followed by the counselling process.
  • MBA: For admission to the full-time two year MBA programme at IIT Madras, candidates are required to appear for the CAT exam. Candidates based on their CAT scores will be shortlisted for the Group Discussion & Personal Interview (PI) round.

Q:   Can I join a B.Sc course at IIT Madras without giving JEE?

A:

IIT Madras BSc admission is entrance-based as the institute primarily accepts the rank and scores of the JEE Main examination for admission to its full-time BSc programme. However, if candidates wish to apply for the integrated BS plus MS programme, then they can apply for admission through the scores of the IISER Aptitude Test. Therefore, you can join the BSc course at IIT Madras without giving the JEE.

Q:   Can I get admission to IIT Madras with a low JEE rank?

A:
Admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) is highly competitive and the admission process is based on the candidate's JEE Advanced rank. However, admission to IIT Madras or any other IIT with a low JEE rank is unlikely, as the cutoff for admission is generally very high. That being said, it's important to remember that JEE rank is not the only factor that IITs consider during the admission process. Other factors such as academic performance, extracurricular activities, and achievements in related fields may also be taken into account. Additionally, some IITs offer other admission channels like the Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) scheme, which allows foreign nationals to apply for admission to IITs based on their SAT scores. It's always best to check the official IIT Madras website for the most up-to-date information on their admission process, eligibility criteria, and other requirements.

A:

IIT Madras offers around 100 undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral degree courses.
