Predict GATE CollegesQ: Is it necessary for a candidate to attempt all questions in GATE?
GATE stands for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. It is a national-level examination conducted for Master of Engineering (ME), Masters in Technology (M.Tech), and direct Ph.D. admissions to Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and other institutes/universities across India.
The GATE paper consists of a total of 65 questions. Check below for the GATE exam pattern. - The GATE Questions paper consists of two sections, namely General Aptitude (GA) (15 marks) and the subject-specific GATE paper (85 marks). - The General Aptitude (GA) section consists of 10 questions. 1 to 5 questions are worth 1 mark each, and the rest, 6 to 10, are worth 2 marks each. - The GATE paper subject-specific section consists of 55 questions, of which 1 to 25 are of 1 mark each and questions from 26 to 55 are of 2 marks each. - Here to be noted that, questions that are not attempted will result in zero marks. Therefore, wrong answers to multiple-choice questions (MCQs) will result in negative marking. For questions of the numerical answer type, there is no negative marking. Also, for MCQ questions, a wrong answer will result in a deduction of 1/3 mark for a 1-mark question and 2/3 mark for a 2-mark question.
