My college experience was overall very positive.
Placements: The placements in the computer Science and engineering (CSE) departments are very good. Almost 99% of students got placed during the 2022-23 academic year. For example, in 2022, 90 out of 91 eligible students were placed. The highest package in computer Science and engineering is INR 57 LPA, the median package is INR 29 LPA, the average package is INR 14.06 LPA and the lowest package is INR 11 LPA. Top recruiting companies are Google, Microsoft, Adobe, Amazon, Intel, Samsung R&D, Visa and Oracle. 85 to 90 percent of students get internships every year from the CSE department at companies like Google, Sprinkler, Microsoft, Amazon etc. Top roles offered in CSE department is Data Scientist, Systems Engineer, Software Developed, IT Consultant, Web Developed etc.
Infrastructure: The computer Science and engineering (CSE) department has, modern labs with air conditioning, wired LAN and Wi-Fi connections. The CSE department has total 12 classrooms, each 84 Sq meters, with projectors, large boards and microphones. The campus have two libraries, one central and one E-Library, with 130,062 books. The quality of the hostel food is decent and hygienic.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful and most of them are highly qualified and have their degrees from good colleges and universities, either inside the country or outside. Teaching quality is good and mostly practical based. This course is relevant to the industry and will make students ready for it.
Other: Our college has very good placements records in CSE department.

An honest review by a CSE branch student.
Placements: When it comes to placements at the CSE branch of NITK, Surathkal, everybody knows the higher placements. So this time also, the placements were touching the sky. For the year 2022, the highest package was INR 54 LPA, along with an average of INR 30 LPA. Almost 55–60% of the students get internships.
Infrastructure: The department is equipped with all the basic facilities. Although the hostel buildings and the mess food are not so good, there are messes in all the hostel blocks. There is one central health care facility center known as HCC. There are good facilities for all the sports.
Faculty: All the faculty members of the CSE department are well-experienced. They have sound knowledge of all the courses. They know how to teach in an efficient manner to make all the students understand. They help students with their club projects and their study-related doubts.

Review by Sharma (CSE 2025) NITK.
Placements: The placement percentage is 99.8 percent; this is the last year's data. The highest package is INR 58 lacs per annum, the average is INR 29 lacs per annum and the lowest is INR 10 lacs per annum. The top recruiting companies are Wells Fargo, Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Oracle, and Citi India. Almost 80 percent of students got internships last year. The top two roles offered are software developer and manager.
Infrastructure: First-year students get triple-sharing rooms with separate beds and tables. The problem is that there is only one fan in the room. Wi-fi facilities are available on the entire campus. Labs are well maintained and the latest computers have highly built processors. We have two libraries: one is the central library and the other is the e-library. Mess food is hygienic and eatable. Food courts and night canteen facilities are available on campus. All sports facilities are available on campus, and the gym is also on campus.
Faculty: Yes, teachers are helpful and most of them are highly educated and have completed their Ph.D. from good colleges. Many of them are also doing research. Teaching quality is good and mostly practical-based. Yes, this course is highly relevant to the software industry and will prepare students for the industry. It is not too difficult to pass the semester exam if you are only attending the class regularly and follow the notes of professors only. Passing percentage varies between 20 and 30 percent overall.
Other: I chose this course because of the placement performance of the branch for the last four years. The best thing about my course is that it is purely technology-oriented and mostly software. I want to improve the old curriculum of the course according to the needs of the modern world. Incident and Engineer are the two important festivals of the college. The campus is not too crowded and is connected to all modes of transport. The nearest airport is only 15 kilometers away from the college. The railway station is only 2 km away from the college. Fee waivers are available on campus on the basis of economic conditions.

CSE Review by Rohit Kumar (NITK).
Placements: Almost 100 percent of students in CSE departments get placed in different companies. The highest package is INR 58 lacs per annum the average is INR 29 lacs per annum and the lowest is INR 8 lacs per annum. The top recruiting companies are Microsoft, Google, Sprinkler, Amazon, VISA, Oracle, Adobe, Cisco, Citi India, and many more. Almost 85 percent of students get internships every year at companies like Google, Microsoft, and Sprinkler. The top roles are SDE1, SDE2, and the analyst role.
Infrastructure: In the first year, students will get a triple-sharing room with a separate bed, table, and chair and only one fan in the room. The entire campus is covered by wi-fi and the labs are well maintained and have modern computers and the latest ones. We have two libraries, one of which is the central library, from which we can borrow books as well as study until 5 o'clock in the evening. But in the e-library, we can study only until 1 o'clock. Mess food is quite good and acceptable. Food courts and night canteens are also on campus. All sports are available in the college and the gym is also in the college. A swimming pool is also on the college campus.
Faculty: Yes, teachers are very helpful and highly knowledgeable and have their degrees from good colleges in India or foreign universities. Teaching qualities are good and mostly practical. Students are mostly focused on coding. Yes, course curriculum is mostly relevant to software industries and prepares students for software or technology industries. It is not more difficult to pass the exam; there are assignments and quizzes as well. If you are only a regular in the class, then you will score good marks. Passing percentage varies subject to subject based on paper difficulty level and it is mostly around 20 to 25 percent.
Other: I chose this college due to its NIRF ranking and placement performance in the CSE departments. The course is totally related to modern technology. I want to improve some of the courses in my first year. Incident and Engineer are the two fests of the college. The campus is not too crowded. Fee waivers are available at the college on the basis of economic conditions and government norms. The campus is connected to all modes of transport.

My second home: My NITK.
Placements: I am in the first year only, but as I heard from seniors about the placements, they are excellent. The highest package for the year 2022 was 54 LPA, and the average package was 30 LPA. The top recruiters were Neutonics, Adobe, DeShaw, Sprinkler, etc. The top roles offered were Sr. Data Analyst, Developer, Sr. Executive Manager, etc.
Infrastructure: There are all the facilities in the CSE department. There are classrooms equipped with a comfortable seating arrangement, projector, microphone, and speakers. There is one big seminar hall in the department where all the meetings happen. There is one central library where one can get all the course-related books.
Faculty: All the faculty members are good. Since I am in the first year, only one professor from the CSE department comes to us to teach DMS. He is full of knowledge and very clear with all the concepts. The course curriculum is also designed in a good way so that one can get in touch with all the latest technologies.

It's true that there is a spike in the cutoff rank of the NITK Surathkal in 2023. As the number of seat allocation has decreased and the priority of the college and the course to be opted has increased. And an another reason as in  the previous times there used to be separate exams for both IIT and

Your expected JEE MAin rank is about 212161. The last year highest closing rank at NIT Surathkal was 83729 in Mining Engineering for General neutral gender under HS quota. Hence your chances for admission are very less.
