Biochemical Engineering Admission FAQs
Q. What are the criteria for admission to a BTech program in Biochemical Engineering?
A. To get admission in BTech Biochemical Engineering, you typically, you need to pass class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects with a minimum percentage (varies by institute). Further, you also need to appear for entrance exams and score really good marks to get a seat at some top-ranked college.
Q. What are thecriteria for admission to a MTech program in Biochemical Engineering?
A. The basic eligibility for an MTech in Biochemical Engineering:
- Bachelor's degree: BTech/BE in Biochemical Engineering or related field (Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology) with minimum marks (usually 50-65 percent).
- Entrance exam: Scores in GATE, university-specific tests, or combined exams like CEED (IITs) are often required.
- Other requirements: Some institutions have additional criteria like minimum CGPA, research experience, or interview performance.
Q. How much time is involved in the admission process of Biochemical Engineering?
A. This cannot be said with any certainty. The time involved varies from one institution to another. Every educational institute has their own procedure that they adhere to for admitting students to a variety of engineering courses. The time involved in the Biochemical Engineering admission process can easily take up to a few months. After you get done with your entrance exam, the general procedure that follows includes the declaration of exam results, applying for the counselling process in the virtual mode, seat allotment on the basis of your exam rank, and admission confirmation from your end by visiting the college and paying the Biochemical Engineering course fee.
Q. Can a PCM student do Biochemical Engineering course?
A. Definitely yes, students who have studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics can pursue Biochemical Engineering courses since the requirement of studying Biology generally arises for BSc Biotechnology and not BTech courses. Therefore, candidates will be offered common electives in the field of Biology which they can pursue while undergoing BTech in Biochemical Engineering. Moreover, PCB students can also study this course but they must have also studied Mathematics in order to appear for JEE.
Q. What are the documents required at the time of Biochemical Engineering admission?
A. Here's the basic list of documents that you will need during the admission process for Biochemical Engineering courses:
· Graduation or Post graduation Mark sheet (In the case of PG/ PhD courses)
· Provisional Certificate (if the original is not issued)
· Class 12th mark sheet with at least 50 to 60% in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/ Mathematics subjects.
· A valid ID proof like Adhaar Card, PAN Card, etc.
· Migration and character certificates, if required.
· Recent passport-size photographs
Q. What are the popular entrance for admission to Biochemical Engineering courses?
A. Popular entrance for Biochemical Engineering programs depend on the level of (Undergraduate or Postgraduate) and the institute you're targeting:
Undergraduate:
- National level: JEE Main, JEE Advanced (for IITs), BITSAT (for BITS campuses)
- State level: KEAM (Kerala), KCET (Karnataka), COMEDK UGET (Karnataka), etc.
- University specific: Some universities conduct their own entrance exams.
Postgraduate:
- National level: GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering)
- University/Institute specific: Some institutes conduct their own entrance exams or accept university-level tests like CUET.
Q. What is the admission procedure for MTech in Biochemical Engineering?
A. Most of the engineering colleges in India accept national level exam JEE Main for admission to the undergraduate engineering programs. On the other hand, admission to the PG engineering programs offered at colleges is done via GATE scores. Candidates must prepare for the various important topics for GATE in Chemical Engineering which helps in securing admission in MTech Biochemical Engineering. Some of these topics include:
- Engineering Mathematics
